Work, health and other issues have made the first half of the year not very productive, but I did managed to finish a pair of two-seaters of the Central powers.
First, KP’s LVG C.VI, embellished with decals from Peddinghaus and Aviattik lozenge. Of course KP would afterwards issue a kit with the same decals, but considering the quality of the decals in this kit I likely would have bought new anyway. Except the decals, it’s a wonderful kit that I heartily recommend. I can’t remember which unit this machine fought in, but the year was 1918. The painted fuselage was atypical, the LVG C.VI were usually finished in plywood, often varnished dark as the originally light finish made them easy to spot. I suppose this was an aeroplane finished in light varnish that was painted on the front to avoid just that.

Next Special hobby’s Lloyd C.V. In contrast a not very numerous aircraft, but it has that decidedly Austrian birdlike appeareance that I am fond of. I cheated with Aviattik decals for the ”autumn” camoflague, but I’m uncertain whether I like it more over a painted look. The model shows a 1917 machine of unknown unit.

Nice work on both of these (I've got the Lloyd in the stash and it's now come out for a closer examination again . . . .)

Hey!
I don't usually catch the 1/72 builds but these are absolute gems.
Lovely work.

Superb pair of models, both are of such a high standard they really don't look like little 1/72 builds. What a great skill you have!

Two lovely two seaters, well done Torbiorn!
I was going to pose a question about the quality of Peddinghouse decals and you have somewhat answered it.

Both are outstanding. I really like the unusual scheme on the LVG as the lozenge and lilac/green camo just look interesting together!

Very impressive work Torbiorn! I like the LVG scheme you chose. I too have purchased the Peddinghaus decals to put on the Pegasus kit. My experience with Peddinghaus has not been great. Yours doesn’t seem to be translucent in the white areas. Did you have any problems with translucent decals? Also, what rib tapes did you use?
Your Lloyd looks amazing. I found it to be a very nice kit to build. Your Americal autumn leaf seems different than mine. The small remnant I have has more orange color in it. Nevertheless, your build is beautiful.
Cheers,
Tim

Two super builds of lesser known types and in the Correct scale too. They look more like 1/32 scale to me such is the superb finish on both.

Outstanding! They are fabulous looking.

Thank you all for the kind words.
Regarding the Peddinghaus decals, I’m hesitant to use them again. The prints themselves are excellent and the print fine, but you have to cut the carrier film yourself and I had difficulties with the edges despite using a very sharp new blade. The film does not silver but the edges are thick and can be clearly seen (zoom in the second pic and look around ”Lotte” and ”K”). When the carrier is printed I think it thins towards the edges and therefor blend better. I have one more set I already bought - if that has the same problem I will liekly stay away since they are quite expensive too. One way to go around is to adapt the cut so the decals cover a whole panel (so the decal edges coincide with panel lines), but that is also unnecessarily difficult and might not always be possible.
The rib tapes are drawn with a tan marker pen (careful inspection will reveal a few botched examples - I should have practiced more!). I got fed up with decal rib tapes after a pair of Fokkers.

Thanks Torbiorn, that's valuable information on Peddinghouse decals.

Wonderful! Your post has inspired to move the LVG up in my 'to build' pile :)

Two wonderful models on display here!

Agree, both nicely done!

Really like the two, and the LVG scheme is very nice! Have seen green/mauve models that were a pain in the eye.
Yours is fine and in perfect harmony with the lozenge. Guess the rigging was a bit hairy! ;D

Brilliant work on both models. Nicely done!

Nice work! Especially like the LVG :)

Beautiful work, that's a pair of gems! I love the Aviattic lozenge, the late Steve Perry gave me some before he went West to go on the old Eduard Siemens-Schuckert D.III we were both building at the time. I'm looking forward to trying some on a 1:32 scale project at some point...
What kind of marker did you use for the rib tapes? Was it an alcohol-based type like the Copics, or some type of paint marker?

Beautiful work torbiorn! I too have purchased some Peddinghaus decals and am rather put off with how transluscent they are on the sheet. The white markings on one sheet I bought can barely bee seen on the sheet, not good for applying over a dark camo. :( You've done some wonderful work here.
