Dear all,
Latest completed project, Revell's latest boxing of the old Eduard kit for the Albatros DIII.
Mostly built OOB with minor details added where the more obvious omissions were seen in the kit. Some scratch made details to cockpit, engine (including a fuel and oil tank and water pipes from engine to wing mounted radiator), control surfaces, windscreen, and other minor bits done. Others on this forum will no no doubt be able to take the kit detailing to another level.
Not perfect, but I am generally happy with how this one has turned out.
Painted by brush as ever in the marking of Jasta 37, early 1917.

Only generally happy with how it turned out Dave? I'd be completely over the moon if I'd made it. The fuselage looks like it is real wood. I think it is a truly beautiful model , I've really enjoyed seeing the photos.

That is a cracker Dave. Superb wood finish and rigging. Another first class model from you.

Well done !

Beautifully done! I’m really impressed with your wooden fuselage.

My favorite Albatros livery!
The wood fuse looks great. Nice job on this.
If I'm not mistaken, the pilot of this aircraft did not claim a single kill. He was eventually transferred to Macedonia as a squadron commander and was killed during the war.

Great result!

Many thanks, chaps!

Thanks for the info Kensar - a real shame - what was the name of the pilot?

A nice one!

The pilot's name was Kurt Grasshoff. He was CO of Jasta 37 and took command of Jasta 38 in Macedonia before being killed there. There's a couple of pictures of him and this plane in the Windsock Datafile 'Albatros Fighters' on page 21.

Very nicely done, Dave!

Nice one!
Given Revell's tendency to use their own paints, did you use them, and if so, what did you use for the upper wing colours?

Thanks, Jeraen,
Yes, Revell paints used - Revell's aqua range is what I use all the time as they paint smooth from the brush once thinned down.
Colours used were the ones Revell called out for in the instructions. This being bronze green, red brown and a mix of patina green and light blue for the light green.

Another beautiful albatross!!!
Looks like I came to the right place to learn the craft...
Very well done...

Really well done, Dave. I really think that the Albatros is up there in the looks department and you have really done it justice!

Thanks Dave -for the Red Brown, is that #37? There seem to be more browns and red browns.
