Hi!
Have not had time to build my Albatross J.1 any further during the last week, but here’s something that i did just before. Going thru my stash, I came across a Camel, which i had neglected in the 90’s….just had had assembled the fuselage halves and attached the lower wing. So i decided to see if it is any good anymore.
The model is rather crude as far the smaller parts go, so used just the main components from the kit. I sanded down the slightly over-represented wing rib detail and had some useful spares from Roden kits. I decided to go for Brown’s Camel as i had never kitted that one earlier, for some reason.
I found that the main components were actually quite accurate dimensionally. I decided to replace the tail surfaces with plasticard items, as they were a little too small and heavy set.
My main idea was to do the wing struts and undercarriage in their right scale dimensions and angles…i think they are very very important things to have the realistic look for the model. And there’s a difference between a flying plane and a grounded one, because of the suspension etc.
There’s a few minor details to be added and tweaked here, but it is one of the most finished models i have done in a while…
Cheers, Skyhook

Well done! I went through a similar journey with one of these wee camels a long while back. It ended up being one of my favorite builds.

Great build. These Academy Camels certainly had an interesting journey. Weren't they Entex copies of Revell that then went to ESCI etc etc?

Nice looking Camel! The fuselage stitching looks very well moulded.

Excellent Camel. Just shows that a good model can be made from a basic kit.

What a Gorgeous little Bird! Lovely work, especially considering how small it is!
