Hi Folks
Inspired by the amazing builds we're seeing here on the Forum I've decided to embark on a build of the new 1/48 scale Sopwith Camel Comic. This is an amazing kit and was recently reviewed on the Forum.

Forum member Mike Norris has been a motivation for this project with his spectacular 1/32 Camel Comic build which he shared here:

So off we go, and I've decided to pretty much do this out of the box to show just how nice Eduard's kits are now.

This what we start with....

And this is the machine we are hoping to recreate in 1/48 scale.

This is the chosen marking option.
Work begins with the cockpit and fuselage interior. Although I am opting for an OOB build I could not resist trying out one of Eduard's amazing new 3D printed wicker seats.
Here we have the item before painting...

And after some painting with PE seatbelts added...

Eduard offer plastic and aftermarket instrument panels...

In the end I went with the plastic panel which is tucked away inside the fuselage anyway.
Fuselage halves prepped...

Le Rhone engine and seat painted and ready...

Fuselage assembled...see how that 3D seat just improves the look of the kit!

Lower wings and undercarriage assembled, primer coat brushed on. It looks a bit scrappy at the moment due to the primer but this is a really enjoyable build.

More progress pix soon

Nice start, quick start too as fuselage is already closed. Looking forward to paintwork.

Nice start (Lovin' that seat as well) ;)
Interesting to note how glossy the finish is on this aircraft - seems to be a deliberate finish rather than just castor oil shine . . .
Looking forward to more progress

A brief update on the Eduard Camel Comic project.
The model looks odd in its primer coat but now the green is going on it's taking shape.

Choosing a shade of green for the Comic was fun. In the end I opted for some ancient ProModeler Olive Drab which brushes well (this is a brush painted model) and captures the likely finish of the Camel Comics.
Work has also progressed on the propeller - this is the kit part, finished in oils, with Tamiya yellow varnish then a flat/satin varnish top coat.

The photos don't do the kit justice, this is a beautifully detailed model that rewards patience.

Nice start on this, and the seat does look fantastic.

Terrific work Dave! I've never been much of a Camel fan but the Comic is a fine-looking machine.
I'm excited to see your next update!
