Hi gang,
My name is Ralph and some of you have no doubt seen me on a few other modeling fora. I've been building models for 25+ years now, but only recently became interested in WW I (and earlier) aviation. I've collected a few biplane kits over the past year, but most of my projects have either stalled after I finished the easy bits, or have failed after I attempted the harder bits.
I have a few biplanes (and one early monoplane) kits in each of the major scales, and haven't really settled on which one I favor for bipes. I do most of my aircraft modeling in 1/72, but so far my attempts at 72nd scale biplanes have been unsuccessful. I was lucky to get a handful of unbuilt 32nd scale kits, and I really like them, but I'm concerned about space in the long run, hence a long term collection in this scale may not be a realistic goal. I was also given a DH 2 in 1/48, but I'm a bit frightened by it for now, so I can't say I've experienced biplanes in the quarter scale.
In any case, I hope to pick up some lessons from you bunch, and hopefully successfully build at least one wingy stringy thingy in each of the three scales by years end.
I doubt the DH2 will be one of them though :o

Welcome to the forum, Ralph! Glad you found us. I can totally relate to the DH2 thing. I've had the 1/48 Eduard kit in that stash for far too long. Time to get crackin' on it. So far, 1/48 is all I build. No room for the bigger stuff, although these guys are tempting me with all their gorgeous WNW builds. I look forward to seeing your projects unfold here.
Cheers,
Bud

Ralph,
Welcome aboard my friend. Glad you,ve joined this outstanding forum. You'll find this a very talented and all ways helpful group of modelers. Don't worry about asking questions either, there's no such thing as a dumb question around here. I hope you'll take a crack at your DH-2 kit in the near future too. I have two in 1/32 scale one Roden and the other WNW's DH-2 I hope to be able to build at some point as well.
Highest Regards,
Gregory Jouette

Morning Ralph..
This is a great group. Getting over the "humps" in a build can be solved by at leat someone and more often than not several people with great advice.

Welcome Ralph from another Marylander. I located in Baltimore, where you located?
Also, I have some of the older Revell 1/28 scale kits (Fokker tripe, Camel & SPAD) that your more than welcome to. I never get around to building them and it be a way you could try a bigger scale. They go together rather well and a rather nice kits considering the original molds are from the 50's. Just drop me a PM if you interested.

Welcome aboard Ralph.
If you're used to building in 1:72 you shouldn't have any problems. The only extra is the rigging - I prefer 2lb or lighter fishing line and pre-drill the holes.

Chuck, I'm just north of DC in takoma Park. Thanks for the offer of the revell kits. I need to clear some room in the stash first though:)
Ian, the problem I have with rigging in 72nd scale is not so much the lines as it is getting the superglue into the right spot and not making a mess. I know...makes me sound like I'm "helmet special" but sometimes it's the seemingly simple things that are hardest until you have that small bit of missing info. :)
