I said i wasn't going to do this but it was calling me....
I got this in a baggie for a couple of bucks. No decals and I found it is missing the tail skid.

I will do Brown's aircraft.

I used the three parts for the cockpit and scratched the rest.

Sanded back the rib detail on the under wing. Sanded out the raised ailerons and scribbed new ones. corrected and adjusted.

I thought the interplane and cabane struts were a bit thick, sanded those thinner and re-profiled.

A final fit of everything and maybe ready for primer.

After primer, discovered a seam that needs attention on the fuselage.

Hard stop for a couple of weeks while I pursue other passions, camping, canoeing and racing.
Back soon......

You're evoking great memories for us oldies with this venerable kit, Allan!
Originally an Aurora kit, released in the 1950s, it was one of the first biplanes I built and perhaps the root of my WWI fixation ever since.
Back then we had to deal with embossed and textured placements for the decals and individual struts that kept collapsing before the glue dried!
One positive that Monogram removed when they 'improved' the kit was the loss of the crew figures and the little base with the chocks! The Camel pilot was a poor starved thing but the mechanic with his oil can really set the model off nicely.
Great work on a kit that'll soon be seventy years old! 😊

Great start on the old kit, Allan!

Looking great so far Allan. Are you in need of decals? I may have spare wheels and Vickers guns also. I’ll check this Wednesday when I get home.
-
Thanks all.
Sandy, at 65 I think that makes me one of the oldies. If you didn't catch it, I did the same sort of thing with the Monogram SE5a.:

Tim this is strictly stupid fun stuff, no aftermarket except the decals but thanks loads for the offer.

It's a sickness.......
I should be loading canoes, packing backpacks, tying flies and instead I'm painting a Camel.
I'm fine.....
I sprayed on a coat of Vallejo US flat Brown, 71.026.
(https://hosting.photobucket.com/images/jj307/Allanscott31/thumbnail_(899).jpeg?width=undefined&height=undefined&fit=bounds) (https://hosting.photobucket.com/images/jj307/Allanscott31/thumbnail_(899).jpeg?width=1920&height=1080&fit=bounds)
I dry streaked on some Mahogany, 71.036. I think I will try black next time...
(https://hosting.photobucket.com/images/jj307/Allanscott31/thumbnail_(902).jpeg?width=undefined&height=undefined&fit=bounds) (https://hosting.photobucket.com/images/jj307/Allanscott31/thumbnail_(902).jpeg?width=1920&height=1080&fit=bounds)
I then mixed the Mahogany about 50/50 with future and laid that on until I liked it. I think I went one layer too many.
(https://hosting.photobucket.com/images/jj307/Allanscott31/thumbnail_(901).jpeg?width=undefined&height=undefined&fit=bounds) (https://hosting.photobucket.com/images/jj307/Allanscott31/thumbnail_(901).jpeg?width=1920&height=1080&fit=bounds)
It's is there but I think a little too subtle. I am experimenting with a new recipe for my PC-10. The cherry red is Vallejo 71.102.

Now I'm going to load....

Looking great Allan. Enjoy the time away from civilization!
-
If I'm not too late Allan, have you tried contacting Revell of Germany for a spare tailskid? In my experience they don't require payment and this may be a kit they have spares for!
Another great build - I enjoy seeing retro kits being built.
-
Thanks all, yea, time away will be good. One passion that is really, really quiet and one that really, really.....isn't....
Zac, the skid is so simple it will less trouble to just scratch one but thanks for the idea.

Glacial progress but progress.....
I took my PC10 and added something to lighten it for the ribs. I then masked the ribs and added the PC10 full strength.
(https://hosting.photobucket.com/images/jj307/Allanscott31/thumbnail_(816).jpeg?width=undefined&height=undefined&fit=bounds) (https://hosting.photobucket.com/images/jj307/Allanscott31/thumbnail_(816).jpeg?width=1920&height=1080&fit=bounds)
I know it's very contrasty but I like the control for toning the ribs down later.
(https://hosting.photobucket.com/images/jj307/Allanscott31/thumbnail_(810).jpeg?width=undefined&height=undefined&fit=bounds) (https://hosting.photobucket.com/images/jj307/Allanscott31/thumbnail_(810).jpeg?width=1920&height=1080&fit=bounds)
I took my PC10 and cut it with about a 50/50 mix of Future and toned down the ribs. This allowed me to heavy up the leading edge with PC10 more solidly and fade out the ribs. I was finally able to get to the decal stage. The AeroMaster decals went on great with no problems.

Later today a coat of Future over everything and hopefully some weathering with oils and other grungy stuff tonight.

Wow! That’s looking great Allan. Those older kits really build up well in the hands of an expert.
-
Looking good Allan! It just goes to show one shouldn't write off older kits - they can be fantastic canvasses on which to showcase one's skills.

Basically, all big bits assembled, rigging next.....

Hard stop for the next week or so, life getting in the way again....
