Great fun today manning the Lewis gun on a Sopwith flying in formation with an SE5a. Two Fokkers were in the skies as well.

Great fun? I'd call it the experience of a lifetime!

True, true. Evidently this is one of only two Sopwith Strutters (repro) in the world that fly. They take it up every Sunday over at the Great War Flying Museum outside of Toronto.

Definitely a unique and memorable experience, lucky you! I didn't realize your Canadian "connection" until I read your profile. Do you normally reside in the Toronto area? The experience of an open cockpit "wind in the wires" trip is one I truly envy of you, wonderful and great photos as a bonus!
Cheers,
Lance

I live in NYC, but my lady lives in Toronto, so I’m up there regularly.
The folks at the museum are great. This was my first visit. You literally walk up, sign the form saying you won’t sue them if you get killed, make your donation (less than the cost of a WNW kit), they show you how to work the scarff ring and then up you go!
I’ve flown open cockpit several times but this flight felt special. Worth a visit if you can swing it!

Great stuff PJ, I'm very envious! Thanks for sharing your experience with us!

Oh, and they also have this wall of 1/72 machines:

That’s not just Any SE5a

You were Well Protected, Sir.

Ohhhhh I’m so jealous of you!

You should! I've flown open-cockpit before but this flight truly was special.

Definetly on the "to do" list, hopefully someday may get it. If ever succeed, I promise lots of pictures. ;) Fingers always crossed.
