Well all,
Ive been quiet, got my hands on a D.VII before xmas and found quite a few things I need to work on, Xmas came a D.VII (OAW) and Hannie under the tree for me. I'm saving the D.VII for the KOTS3 group build on Aeroscale.
I was going to save the Hannie but... welll... you know me.
As always I've veered way off the instructions. So without any more ado here's my bash so far.

Inside I cut the fuel gage away from the tank, added some clesr discs to instruments along with new bezels to add a little depth.
Adding fuel control levers out of cut down wingnuts as opposed to etch too, I also added the pulley cable for what I presume to be the sliding panel under the rear floor & the rod for the generator clutch mechanism on the right side of the cockpits.
I decided after looking at the wrecked Hannie pics on WNW's site to not go too dark on the interior sides.
Now the oft discussed matte of the WNW lozengs (hand/sprayed/painted... their colours are nothing like Ronnie Barrs lovely profiles so I decided to spray my own, it worked to a reasonable degree. I got a bit carried away though and over lozenged the fuselage, still most will be overpainted but I want that *show through* in places effect.

The only real foul up was the blue on the underside loz, way too dark I think, still once oversprayed weathered and faded... who'll see it?
I'm planning on Profile B and going for *Red 5* resisting all starwars references... ops. except for that one.
Thats all for now folks.

WOW Keith! That's fantastic looking lozenge you painted. ;D The colors are really perfect to my eye. How did you do it?
You're really moving right along. ;) Great office too. :) Well done.

Bob

Keith,
Can you elaborate a bit on how you "sprayed your own" Lozenge? Did you mask one block at a time, spray all one colour first etc? Looks great whatever the method but I'd like to know more on technique.
Cheers,
Lance ???

yes exactly how I did it, sprayed the whole in Tamiya dark yellow rattle can, masked the ochre, sprayed the colours on order of darkness so green - lilac - purple and dark green on the upper and almost the same sequence on the lower. Between each I gave her a thin coat of Citadel purity seal to try and ensure there was no lifting issues (all the paints apart from Tamiya primer and dark yellow were Citadel)
Once done careful scraping, sanding and overspraying Purity seal (satin laquer) and repeating has it almost back to a smooth finish, or appears so till the first coat of overspay reveals the horrors ::)

Lovely! Fine interior. Great job on fuselage losenge. This would be too much for me, I am glad I will build a Polish version with overpainted camo.

Wow! - spray painted lozenge - must have taken ages!
Excellent and very impressive work so far, Keith.

Hello Keith,
the spray template you made yourself manually or let the cut plotter? It is very nice work.

Wow, Keith! You've been a very busy lad! Brilliant work on the innards, as usual, and the fuselage lozenge is incredible.
Cheers,

Excellent work Keith! You have been very busy indeed.
The work on the fuse lozenge is excellent - almost a shame to see it sprayed over.
It's been great watching how you and Mark have done the lozenge.

Keith,
Another Masterpiece in the making my old friend. Outstanding work on the sprayed lozenge pattern. Looking forward to following along with this awesome and informative thread.

Thanks all, much praise indeed, I'm humbled
Vladimir, I just masked one colour at a time using Tamiya masking tape cut to fit in a random way, no plan, just using my eye. I think I hit lucky, it could have all gone a bit wrong just as easy. :o I followed the profile in the handbook as a rough guide to what I could see.
Thanks all Keith

Simply Wonniefull, Kornbeef! Want that Lozenge-Eye you got, too..! But as I haven't, I hope our friends of the Lozenge-decals-production-fraction will find a way to make a Hannie-fuselage-Lozenge-decalset!
Really looking foreward to seeing the announced overspray-effect, 'cause that's just what I wanna do to my Hannie too.
Thank you for sharing your beautiful work!
Richard
P.S. Just found this thread http://forum.ww1aircraftmodels.com/index.php?topic=1325.0
Seems like you guys know each other so well since ages.
Knew this thread too http://www.greatwaraviation.com/forum/index.php/topic,4147.0.html, but don't know how to contact your old chap Dough Baumann at all. My posting there, at least, never saw an answer.

Beautiful job on the lozenge, very tidy.
Don't be shy though, those colours look really good please spill the beans to what ones you used or are they mixes.

From what I can work out that seems to be how it was done on the originals, too.
Except of course they had to use ersatz Tamiya tape due to the blockade. :D

Kornbeef,
Lots has been said already but I must join the praise on your lozenge spraying. It looks absolutely fabulous. Even more so after your explanation how you did it. Now I am wondering how you avoided edges of colours on the previous two when going to the third and fourth colour.
Very nice indeed!

Minor update without pics due to inclement weather.
Funny how everything feels so smooth till you coat it with something opaque.
I hadnt laquered and sanded out all the little edges in the loz it saeems so anyone attempting this method I advise thin coats as possible between colours.
Not that its unsalvageable, its not bad really just noticeable. Anyway Its been relaquered and resanded and now the glosscoat is drying ready for decals... YAY Now maybe I can start work on the wings.... laughs

Keith,
Funny how the best made plans come off not quite right at times. Glad you were able to correct the oopps. Looking forward to the photos my old friend.

I really like how your lozenge turned out. I hand painted mine and naturally there are the brush marks. I oversprayed with thinned blue per WNW instructions and was pleased with the result. After decaling I used Testors dullcote, again with satisfactory results. There are still some brush strokes visible, but I figure; "What the Hay?" They were brush painted. If I do another one with the exposed Lozenge I will definately mask and airbrush. I am looking forward to more of your work.

Minor update.
I havent spent much time on her recently. Got everything lozenge up and was waiting for it to really dry off before fading.
So I started the Aeroscale KOTS III D.VII in the meantime.
Anyway progress pics so far.

Quite a lot of ridging showed through from my fuselage loz attempt even though before overspraying it felt pretty smooth. Also the colours are really white different to the WNW loz I'm hoping fading and overspraying will tone the differences a bit. Other than that I'm relatively happy with the result so far, fit wise everything seems pretty good.

Looks fabulous to me

Hello Keith:
That is certainly a striking scheme! If you thin your blue mix down you can shade the WNW lozenge down quite a bit without loosing it. I know it mine it was quite a stark contrast until I started to blend it in. I also went over the whole with a real thin mist coat of Tamiya Desert Yellow. I just wanted to "tone" things down a bit. You are making good progress here. Looking forward to more from "the stump".

It is amazing how colourful these birds were, especially when one bears in mind grim black-and-white photos from the period available. Fine progress, Keith!
