Hello all
I'm currently working on an 72nd Eduard Dr1 and have just started the painting stage. :)
The aircraft I'm modelling is a nice simple scheme (I thought!) of Dr1 588/17 of Ltn Richard Wenzl. Profile is taken from the Osprey aces book. It mentions that the 'wing leading edges were picked out in black and white' Anyone have a picture or point towards what this might look like please?
Linked to the above build I tried slimming the interplane struts down a little too much and ended up buying a second kit to use :-[
I've seen a picture of one of the early Dr1 prototypes (V3?) which didn't use these and thought it might make an interesting use of the second kit. Does anyone have a scale drawing or details of the differences? Looking at the only picture I've seen it looks like the wings are of different lengths and the tail shape isn't the same)
Thanks
Paul

This came up from a google search. I think ! have clearer image in a book but can't post due to copy right. I Hope This Helps.

PS: As for the proto type, you are certainly on the right track. I will have to look and see if I have the dimensions in a book somewhere.

That's great - thank you RAGIII :D
(Just looking to make it accurate enough to satisfy my own requirements and that looks like the sort of thing I had pictured)
Cheers

Perfect - thanks Patrick :)

Yes, you can use your second kit to make the Fokker V.4 (not V.3) prototype. But please take into account the following differences:
- Lower and middle wings have the same wingspan
- VERY curved tailplane leading edge (more than in the F.I pre-production prototypes)
- Unbalanced ailerons and elevators
- No armament fitted
- Plain doped linen finish, with metal panels in freehand machine turned finish (Like the E-I, E.II, E.III...)
- Top wing Wingspan: 6.21m. (Dr.I: 6.725m.)
- Length: Same as the Dr.I, 5.75m.
- Height: 2.95m. (Dr.I: 2.725m.)
- 110hp LeRhone engine (almost identical to the Dr.I Oberursel Ur.II)
- No skids in lower wing
- Fokker factory pictures show it without markings, but later it was painted in a dark color (Non-streaked dark green, I assume) and cross painted in the (white) rudder. Not visible in the rest of the airframe.
I think that's all the info I have. Hope it helps... :)

Certainly does - thanks you. It'd be nice to find a scale drawing, but if not I'm happy to make something that 'looks right' for my own entertainment ;D

Amazingly, I'm also building Wenzl's striped Triplane in 1/72! I'm using the old Revell kit but am using our own Jamo's photos of replica ZK-JOK (https://jamesfahey.smugmug.com/Fokker-DrI-replica) for reference as a gift for a friend who flew that machine in his debut WW1 airshow routine last year. I was going to post a WIP today!

::) Like Number 9 buses eh? You wait for ages and then two come along at once ;D LOL
Like how yours is shaping up. I've been fiddling with struts for a couple of days making them out of brass strip to get nearer to 'scale' thickness, but have decided this evening to sand down the kit ones and use them instead for this model. (It doesn't have to be perfect, but it does have to be finished) ;)
Cheers

Another good pic on this site:

looked at that link, i have an issue
its three different colors depending on the angle.
from behind its a nice solid plywood with varnish.
45 degree from behind, the sides and wing tops become a gree, and the wing bottoms a wood grain color.
