This was started a very long time ago and ending being a shelf queen . It is my first attempt of scratching details in this scale . Turned out to be frustrating and end up back in the box .
Time to get her done finally , This is where I left off . Using the Part PE set for this kit plus many , many details added .

That is an awesome job on the Pfalz interior Alexis! I was considering starting another Myself but I think I will hold off for a while ::)

It's a Pfalz and I love me some Pfalzzzzzz.
Good progress, Alexis ;)
More!

Pfalz Queen working on a queen of the Pfalz. It will be a not-to-be-missed show.
-
The Pfalz D.III is, to me, the queen of the WW1 fighters. Such an elegant design. I'm so excited to see you back on this!
-
Great choice, A. I've got a few of these in the stash but haven't started one yet. I'll be interested to see your progress.
One question: does your kit have damaged wingtips (aileron tips)?
The wingtips are moulded sticking out at the end of the sprue and as the sprues move around in the box, these have been bashed on all three of the kits I've got. Not a huge problem but a little thought with the sprue design could have protected these very thin tips.
Still a nice kit though.
Sandy

Such an elegant design.
Not only an elegant plane! There are also a huge amount of nice paint schemes of the D.III and D.IIIa :)
I need also to add a D.III to my collection!
Let's see how yours will look like!
Cheers,
Frank

Good work, Alexis -
I assume the framing is part of your added scratch built details?
Regards
Dave
-
Thanks guys ! There is still some detailing to add to the pit and engine , I'm about half way through this stage now . I made the mistake on holding off on some which will be hard to fit now .
Sandy , yes . Tips are damaged on my as well and will be a challenge repairing this do to it's thinness , but I have had this happen with other manufactures as well in the past and on new kits such as Eduards Mustang . You are correct though it is a nice kit and Roden did do a nice job on the details .
Dave , yes part of the frame is my handy work ;)

Wonderfully detailed interior Alexis. That has the makings of another first class model.
I am not sure how you can be working on several subjects at the same time - shades of Rick there!
Stephen.
-
This is too beautiful a model to be shelved Alexis.
I'm sure that when you have finished her, she'll look as pretty as all your models :)
Willem
-
Hey thanks guys , I'm back on this now that the work bench is cleared and I have the room to spread out the parts .
Not much more for the cockpit for the details , a few plumbing pips and the seat belts and the guns and the halves can be joined for good . Will have some pic's posted soon of some progress , in the mean time still need to find a livery for her to wear
Alexis
-
This is looking great, Alexis! One wouldn't know the frustration that you dealt with detailing this just by looking at it, well done! Looking forward to following your progress.
Chad
-
Looks killer!
-
If I had to single out one WWI fighter as my “favorite “ it would be the D-IIIa. You have taken great care in detailing the interior. It looks really nice. Glad to see this is officially off the shelf of doom!
-
Haven't been avoiding this one progress is being made at a snail's pace ( thank god no slimy trail left behind ) Clean up of the parts finished and ready for pins and details . Before I finish off the seat belts wasn't happy with the PE cushion and have started making a new one out of card sandwich together giving me a basic shape of sanding , detailing it is next or at least try and make it look like a cushion , a well used cushion ;D

Good to see your making progress. Have you decided on the aircraft you wish to depict?
-
Hey Tim , thanks !
So far not really , but I do like one of the kit makings for 4064/17 jasta 34b , ltn RudolfStark 1917 .
Alexis
-
Sorry for the lack up dates guys , just haven't had time of late to spend in front of the bench . All is good though , I do hope to be back at the beach here soon , I do miss it .
Alexis

Hiya Alexis, I just spent a year with absolutely no modelling time at all. It was challenging to say the least! Life has a way of getting the way sometimes, look forward to seeing more on this when you're ready.

As always we are waiting somewhat patiently ;D

Well I think it is time I actually finish this eh ?
I have two projects to finish up first a Spitfire Mk 1 and a P 51 D in the painting and decaling stage .
There a few errors with the framing , but I will not be correcting that but press forward on getting the pit done . Pic's to follow soon once I remember how to do that .
Alexis

Great to see you back on this Old Pfalz Queen. This certainly qualifies for the Shelf Queen GB!

Really interested in watching this build Alexis. I just started working on this same kit, although converting it to a D.IIIa. Looks like you were off to a good start a few years ago!
Warren Q
-
Excellent news. And what's a few years between friends? ;D
-
Good to see this back in progress. A definite shelf queen!
-
Good to see you back Alexis. You have certainly made a good start. What is a couple of years? When I picked up modelling again after a 30+ year break I found two unfinished Vickers Gunbuses...... so a couple of years is nothing really!!!!
Stephen.
-
Fantastic to see you back here Alexis!! Looking forward to seeing more of your wonderful work on this Phretty Phalz!
Cheers!

This will be pretty. What markings?
-
Glad to see you back here Alexis! Finish that P-51 and refresh your title as Pfalz Queen! ;)
-
Thank you guys for the welcome back and following along when progress comes .
Rick , great idea to enter the GB , however ; my time is very limited and I know it will not be finished by the dead line .
A few years here a few there .....Stephen I actually started this about ten years ago , this is the second time it ended up as a self queen ( I'm going for a record you know ! )
Allan , going for the markings of Rudolf Stark , 1917 .With the purple spinner and fuselage band .....How can I say no .
Beto , will do my best on getting it finished
Alexis

Great to see you back!
I have to admit that my posts haven't exactly been regular over the last couple of years, either, but plugging on slowly!
Ian
-
I am truly looking forward to seeing you working back on a Pfalz ;)
-
A Pfalz is always welcome. I am keen on seeing progress on this one.
-
Thanks a lot for the words of encouragement guys ! Will try and not let you folks down and actually get this one finished . I s back on the bench and parts organized now that the spitefire is wrapped up . So hopefully this weekend will have a few pic's posted up .
Alexis
-
I actually got time at the bench over the past few and made a bit of progress to boot ! Interior is almost finished for the detail I'm will add . A few PE parts to attach and this part can finally closed up between the fuselage halves . Also corrected a boo boo made form being over zealous with sanding the access panel for the guns . I use 0.5 as a backing and filled the holes with card and mr.surface sanding it smooth . will now if touch in need when rest of the body gets started . The intention was to have these open to show more the detail ....not happening now I can assure you of that .
-
:)
-
Excellent - a model from the correct period.... ;) That's a very nice looking interior, looking forward to seeing more of this build.
-
Looking really good. I've always had trouble closing the fuselage on this kit with the formers and engine bearers seemingly too wide (maybe it's my incompetence). I wonder if removing the engine covers helps in some way. It certainly allows one to see more of your lovely engine.
Warren Q
-
All this looks like a great progress!
-
Wow a busy looking interior! Looks great ;D
-
Some fine detail there - nicely done. Cheers!
-
Coming along really well (and I do love a Pfalz) ;)
Paul
-
Lovely progress, I'm reminded I have another Pfalz.
-
Hi guy's ,
Thanks for the comments gentlemen . I appreciate your time on checking things out .
Warren , honestly I', not able to answer that question . the details on the fuselage side walls got sanded off and the cowl panels cut away but the formers did pose a few trouble and the side walls needed even more sanding to get the cockpit to fit snuggly between the fuselage halves .
I have made a bit more progress , fuselage halves are closed up together , rudder in place , tail plane fitted and lower wing with all the seems cleaned up . Wheels are ready to go and the exhaust as way as the tail skid . Will have some pic's up later this weekend . Right now I just well ....lazy !
Alexis
-
Finally got around to taking some pictures of where this project stands so far .
-
;D

:)
-
:)
-
I'm slowly getting there when time allows me , still a fare amount of work to do with the PE parts , few struts and the top wing is left . Not sure if I will finish the engine details now or wait until after paint and decals . Valve springs and rocker arms , nuts and bolts etc etc for the top part of the engine . I also can't find my notes for the drain holes on the underside of the fuselage to drain the condensation build up ......
Alexis
-
Amazing work. Great stuff.
-
Thanks Allan !
It has been an enjoyable build so far when I can get time at the bench .
Alexis
-
Alexis: Love the spokes inside the wheels. Engine looks great. Great detail all around. The myriad photo etch parts seem like they are really going to pay off. And I am still amazed you got the fuselage closed with the engine mounts :)
Warren Q
-
Very nice detail additions. All that PE will definitely be worthwhile.
-
I think it's coming along very nicely!
Warren

I have just red all your post. Very intersting. ready to follow the built!
Xan
-
Great progress, Alexis!
-
Nice. Do not stop ;)
-
That is coming together really nicely.
-
Excellent work, A. Love the idea of attaching spokes to the inside wheel covers - why hadn't I thought of that before?
Please do get her to the finish line.
Sandy
-
Very nice work - coming along beautifully :)
-
Thank so much guys for the comments , glad that you are enjoying the build just as much as I'm .
Warren Q , I think what helped was the amount of sanding and not having the cowl side panels off . I'm sure of it now . It is a tight fit , the frame work isn't glued in place .
yes adding the spokes brings a bit more detail into an empty place , it's not perfect for it does the trick . On the Part PE set there are spoke wheels but i never found this to be realistic being flat , maybe for another project in the future .
Progress has been moving forward for the build , was able to get a bit of time at the bench with a few more items off the list . Details added .....
Tail skid pinned for added strength
Bolt heads added to the rudder hinges
Taping added to the fusleage seems ( bottom runs form nose to tail )
I added a lip for the cowl panels to attach to , these panels over lap so not fully correct but does add to the over all effect . I don't have the cowl panels parts anymore so I just winged it with a bit of gizomology .
Retaining chips on the front cowl
moisture drain holes on the bottom of the fuselage , one just behind the wing root and the other one is in front of the tail skid .
Vale springs with PE parts for the PE set for the spring tops . Still have the rocker arms to add
Bolt heads added to the rocker covers
Seat belt bolt heads added to the fuselage sides .
All struts are pinned
Guns
Rad stutter
And that is where I'm at now with the build .

A very nice leap back into it!

Thanks Borsos and Steve
Alexis

Wow, superb detail work. The cabane struts are particularly impressive. This is going to be great!
-
Indeed, a great datialing work all around.
-
Queen of the Pfalz and Empress of Photo Etch for sure!
Warren Q
-
Thank you guys for having a peek and sharing your feedback , appreciate it :)
Warren , of the Pfalz yes ... PE oh god no it is a curse for sure and there is a few errors on my folding and bending , but yet I seem to have a ton of it for other kits in the stash .
The D=devil is in the details !
Alexis
-
Love the PE on the struts, really brings them to life.
-
Thanks Allan !
Alexis

It has been awhile since I have posted progress on the build . Work has been moving right along finishing off the engine details . Installing the guns , touch ups with paint . got her primed and painted and decals on which are sealed in with future .
Had few set backs with paint lifting twice ! The silver grey and part of the purple stripe . Silver grey is a mix of Tamiya lacquers . INJ Grey , white and silver . for the lilac tamiya purple lighten with white .
The decals are Rodens and no real issues with them other then decal setting solutions didn't have much of an effect so I used Tamiya extra thin glue to get them to snuggle down . Key is go very lightly no need to flood the area will just make a nice mess to clean up .

WOW huge progress! Love the color and scheme ;D
Bit of a nightmare if paint lifts, but I hope you can repair it.
-
Great progress. Including repairs of paint damage. It will be a jewel, no doubt about it.
-
That is all looking very good indeed, it looks like you are heading towards the finish line with this one. Looking forward to seeing the completed Pfalz.
-
Very nice colours!
/Fredrik
-
Beautiful work. The Stark lilac look very sharp. This will be exciting to see finished!
Warren Q
-
I think you got the Silver Grey spot on. Looking really good.
Alan
-
Thank you gents for the kind comments ,
Yes it is moving right along so far but still a fare amount to do . I'm not sure I will highlight the ribs on the wings or just leave them as they are with a bit of weathering .
Allan , I as well really like how the silver grey turned out . I was out of Tamiya silver in acrylic so I used what I had on hand and it did pay off in the end .
Alexis
-
Work continued on the build , finish off the weathering and mae a start on the per-rigging . Turnbuckles are made form pulled cotton buds over a flame fashioned with wire hoops . Struts fixed in place and the top wing is mounted .
Alexis
-
But I didn't stop there , no ...I continued on and got the rigging done with all the other bits in place and can now call this one done !
Alexis

Once I get a bit more time this weekend coming up will et more pic's up in the completed section .
Alexis

Wow - excellent work! That turned out fantastic. Cheers!
-
That has indeed turned out very well! I like the subtle weathering, very effective. I'm looking forward to more pics.

Great job Alexis.
Alan.

Sweet job Alexis
Love a Pfalz and really enjoyed following this thread 8)

Really nice Pfalz. The extra work to expose more of the engine really paid off.
Warren Q
-
Very nice. Looks lovely with that mauve band.
And those fine details! Congratulations.

Bravo, love the open inspection panels, really adds some life.
