Copper State Models' latest kit release, the 1/32 Caudron G.III landed at the Forum yesterday and it's gone straight to the top of the kit review list.

I'll have a review uploaded in the next day or so but initial impressions are: Wow! This is a state of the art kit and a worthy successor to Wingnuts in design and engineering quality. We don't do Kit of the Year but if we did I'd say the Caudron would get my vote.
Anyone who's unsure whether to order a Caudron can be assured this is a real treasure and a must-have for large scale WW1 modellers.

Fantastic news! I'm ready and waiting!

Will someone be doing a build review in the future perhaps ?

Hi Alexis,
So far a few of us have received their kits, so someone will doubtless build and log it soon,

Oleg is currently building his Caudron G.III

Hi Edgar,
Good to see The Caudron build by Oleg.
The first close views of what will prove to be a great model for us all,
Mike
-
Yes, Edgar, a very hearty congratulations...and thank you...as always...and all the best to your crew.
-
Oh my!! *fans face like a Victorian lady*
Beautiful work Oleg, and congratulations Edgar on a stunning kit!
-
This kit is absolutely stunning, I just received mine today. I hope that CSM put more emphasis on 1/32 airplanes and get us more frequent surprises with new releases for this year
-
Looks gorgeous!

Edgard, it looks gorgeous, and I had no doubt it was. Even if my budget has been considerably lowered by unexpeted expenses this is on top of my shopping list. Just waiting it's showing up at local hobby shops, as ordering from abroad (also receiving non commercial parcels... :-[ ) has becomen troublesome to say the least. Anyway, (well deserved) congratulations on your new release and long live to CSM!

Inspirational work. I have pulled my kit out to start working on it.
Do you know what colour the blue is that Oleg is using?
I have tried a couple of Tamiya enamels but the colours just dont look right.

Outstanding, I'm just waiting this one appears at hobby shops within range. Order from (and also shipping to) abroad has becomen annoying in Italy, I hope it's just a temporary inconvenience due to the pandemics...

Well that is absolutely beautiful, some fine work on display - congratulations Oleg and thank you Edgar for sharing!
Edgar, I have one question about the kit that wasn't answered by Dave's comprehensive review: is the engine in the kit fixed or rotating?
-
Greetings
Engine is feeling kinda tight due to cowling plastic thickness so for that reason the engine is fixed and can not rotate, sorry
-
Like the overall color and the contrast between the thick and thin portions of the wing. What colors did Oleg use for the linen effects?

Thanks for clarifying that, Edgar. I'm sure I'm not alone in enjoying rotary engines that rotate, so I'm eager to see fixes people come up with to address this.

Hi, i used аcrylic paints AK "CLEAR DOPED LINEN"
-
Hi Oleg
A good choice of colour for clear doped linen ;D
Nice build by the way.
Cheers

I second this as an outstanding kit. I picked mine up a month ago and have started work on it. I thought I would be further along by now, but warm humid weather has slowed me down with some of the clear coats. Im off not for two weeks, so here is a peek of where I am up to. The rigging is tricky but the instructions are excellent in covering what goes where. It does pay to read ahead to make sure you have everything covered off though.

She looks gorgeous, LT! Beautiful work! You might like to consider starting a work-in-progress thread in the Under Construction (https://forum.ww1aircraftmodels.com/index.php?board=3.0) subforum?

Would the engine cowling on this kit have been mold-formed in a large machine press?
Or would each cowl have been hand-beaten with a hammer over a wood buck?
I'm curious how this cowling was made, but also how cowlings were formed in general in WWI.
I'm just wondering if the aircraft manufacturers back then would have tooled up for a machine press type approach, or if metal work like this was all hand beaten, one at a time.
I ask b/c I would think it would impact the way the finished raw piece of metal would look.
Any comments appreciated!

@ Ringleheim
Most WW1 cowlings were spun.

Look up metal spinning on YouTube for more details on how this is done.
