From the shelf of doom. For me, this was a very difficult kit. I based it on the written description of the Aviatic built 7877/17 from the Windsock Datafile. I'm still coming to terms with Vallejo paint. I'm nowhere near the '10,000 hours' so my builds will have to suffer until then. Hours and hours could have been spent getting all the pits, bumps, lines, and whatnot out of the plastic, especially on the wings, but again, get it done! In hindsight, the 'large irregular shapes' probably should be even larger, but there was no photograph of this machine in the datafile and I decided not to go looking for contrary evidence. I do believe it should have the fuselage mounted radiators. I searched my big bin of aftermarket parts but could not find any. So for now, I'm calling it done. I'll go on the hunt for the radiators but I'm done making parts from scratch on this one.
The gun ring, gun, prop, spinner, exhaust, and wheels are all Aeroclub. The control horns are Eduard photo etch, the rigging line is Infini brand lycra. The struts are home made from 0.3mm brass tube smashed around 0.005" piano wire.
Thanks for viewing.

I seemed to have missed that you finished this one Stuart! You have done a Fantastic job on a Vac kit that I know had to be very challenging. Excellent results overall and the rigging looks awesome!

Impressive result from a vacuform!
I guess I will never try to build a vacuform (as I don't have one in my stash, which is already to big too be build), but I have a big respect to all builders of such a kit.
Only the violet seems to bit strong in my eyes. But I know, this is hard to get right because the paint manufacture do not produce the needed paint and this is often a problem of the cameras to give the same impression as with the naked eye.
The best violet and mauve WWI shades were available by Drooling Bulldog, but you cannot order the paints on the website anymore :(
Cheers,
Frank

Frank,
It does to me too. Personally, I wasn’t happy with the green. I thought it was too blue! The Windsock Datafile had the Methuen codes for the purple and green on this machine so I mixed colors to match my copy and ran with them. The brown wasn’t documented so I found a shade straight out of the bottle that didn’t distract from the other two colors. By no means would I ever claim the colors are correct I’m just sharing how I came up with them.

Very nice! Other than the occasional vacuform clear-parts for off-topic models I don't have a lot of expericence with them. So all the more, well done, and always nice to complete a model that has been WIP for a long time :)

Wow! I missed this one, great job Stuart!
I don't have the nerve to take on a vacuform.

Excellent result! A fitting testament to your skill and persistence.

A vacuform kit today is something you won't see often. I did one once and I am noct sure if I will do it again.
Very nicely done.

Great effort on a difficult vacuform. I don't know if I have the guts to try something like that.

Thanks guys. Your compliments are very much appreciated. I have built a handful of vacuform kits over the years. They just take more time and patience. I'm no expert, but if anyone is giving one a go for the first time, I'd be happy to help.

Lovely build, Stuart! Vacforms are really quite an art - but you have done this one so well! I love the colours too! Regards, Marc.

She's turned out beautifully! Personally I love vac kits and gave far too many in the stash. They give can lot of scope for adding detail and the engine rarely need thinking like injected kits do.
