So...I'm not starting this RIGHT NOW...but soon. So here is a place holder. I've always wanted an SE-5a to go along with my D-VII and Albatros so here it goes. Can't wait to get her started.
Soon!
Cheers and keep your scissors sharp,
Dan

So I told my wife I was NOT going to start the SE. Here are some shots of me not starting the SE. Really...it's just some test fitting and I accidentally added some glue.
I really need to seek professional help.
Thanks for looking,
Dan
-
Awesome Dan !
So are you saying you are a glue sniffer ?
Well that's alright actually but not recommended for consumption , teeth get all stuck together , tongue gets a weird feeling ;D
Looking forward on seeing this one come together :)
Alexis

Great start and of course I Love the subject! I will follow along as always!
RAGIII

Looking good Dan! Who makes this kit? Thanks.
Best regards,
Bob
-
Thanks, All...I think I'll do a bit more on the interior tonight. We'll see!
Bob: It's by a fellow who goes by "Fitter". His stuff is simple but looks good when done. He has a neat line of Albatri too. Some of his stuff has been published by WAK.

I got the main fuselage together. I had some issues with where the rear cockpit former ended up. Not sure if that was self-induced or something else but I cobbled things together and it looks ok. I'll do a bit more to the hide my issues later. Looks nice with the rudder on too!
More soon,
Dan
-
Coming along Nicely Dan!
RAGIII
-
Thanks, Rick...you being an SE-o-phile really helps!
I got the stabilizers and elevators on as well as rigged the rear all up. I needed to add the steerable tail skid horns/rigging but that's it. I also filled in the spot where the machine gun will go and added the cowling as well. It will look cool with gun sites and stacks soon to follow!
I kind of like the chocolate brown look. Less green and more brown seems to look about right to me...your mileage may vary! ::)
Thanks for looking,
Dan
-
Slowly getting the forward fuse done. Stacks, cut out/made the window...next will be gun and sites!
Cheers,
Dan
-
Looks great Dan! I’m really enjoying this one. I agree with you on the brownish cast.
Best,
Bob
-
Thanks, Bob!
Well...at least one of JTBM's guns/sites is ready! I also cobbled the windscreen together. I need to make a better head rest and get the cockpit edging in order. Then the front end will be done!
Dan
-
Gotta fix the ring around the front barrel (a bit crooked) but Jimmy is loaded for bear! Wings next.
Dan
-
Bottom wing skeletons, skins and attached!
Dan
-
Amazing work on the Machine Guns Dan. Really looks great with the lower wings Mounted.
RAGIII
-
Wow !
I leave for a bit and already you almost have another one finished ! For a simple shape it has complex curves in a few areas , you did a super job on getting the fuselage together :)
Alexis
-
Thanks, Alexis and Rick! It is going together pretty quickly now...
I got some more done on this Halloween Night. You can see the landing gear and the main struts are all made with embedded wire. They are just sitting in their respective holes so look wonky right now. You can also see that I'll need to jigger the exhausts as the cabanes are interfering a bit. No worries, though.
More on the top wing soon!
Dan
-
Looking more and more like a proper SE5a. Lovely work on the struts!
RAGIII
-
Thanks much, Rick...
Here she is with wings and struts on! I needed to cut off some length on the cabanes as the top wing sat too high to my eye. Pretty ok now!
Dan
-
She is splendid with the top wing fixed in place Dan :)
Alexis
-
Thanks Alexis!
Tonight I got the top gun on and reinstalled the exhausts. I still need to add a bracket or two to the Lewis...
I also started rigging with some interplane, cabane, landing gear and some of the double flying wires. I think I can finish the rigging tomorrow and then all that's really needed are a few details and the wheels.
Maybe soon...Dan
-
Really amazing work Dan. I've not delved into paper models but yours
is quite brilliant! Well done!
Cheers,
Ernie :)
-
Thanks so much, Ernie!
She's all rigged. Jimmy just needs a prop. Perhaps tomorrow!
Cheers,
Dan
-
That is an amazing looking SE Dan! The rigging is very well done and sets it off nicely!

Another example of how paper/card models today are a far cry from the ones I used to cut from my cereal box! Beautiful work Dan.
-
Thanks, KZ! I daresay those cereal box models were likely harder to make look decent than these new computer-designed wonder kits. They would be "fun" to try...
Happy New Year and thanks for looking,
Dan

Whether by photos or video it's always a joy and inspirational to see you work Dan. The end results are always wonderful to look at. Thanks for shooting and sharing.
-
I have one of Fitter's SE5a. I may cheat and get aftermarket guns. I have no idea how you did that Dan. Amazing work.
-
Thanks, PWP...it just takes making a mess of it many times and then you sort of fiddle around, use various things on the bench and they make a pretty good final product.
Making all the barrels etc. out of paper is past my pay grade. Some folks can, but it's very difficult! So I freely mix and match including getting etch cooling jackets etc. (see my Dr. 1!)...
Thanks for the comments,
Dan
-
Holy cow, so this is where you've been lurking.
Up to your usual excellent self I see, nice work dan.
-
Hello Allan!
Haven't forgotten all that lovely plastic in the garage...it's just that paper is a new challenge and I can get some cool models you can't find in a larger scale easily. Plus...construction is a really nice blend of flying models and the "real thing" like ribs, skinning etc. Heck...you actually make panel lines when you put these together! You should see my P-40, P-35 and Shoki.
You should give it a try, Herr Leutnant. ;D
Thanks for looking and commenting, Allan. I trust you guys are well and getting ready for Thanksgiving and all that fun.
Dan
-
Dan you take these models to a whole new level. Very difficult to distinguish between a plastic kit. Keep up the great work!

Agreed. Dan's photos and videos are a joy to behold.

You should see my P-40
And you have my undivided attention! <3

Thanks so much, Folks...
Zac...this is for you. Everyone else shield your eyes! Non-WWI subject inbound. ;D
Dan
-
A long-nose? Bah! ;D Lovely work Dan, even if it's not an E!
-
Dan, in the YouTube video for this plane build you mentioned that you used a Dremel to do the wheels on this kit. Could you expand on that please or shoot a video the next time you perform this operation?
-
Hi PW...
Here is a link to my Avro wheels/tires and they are all done the same way. See if this one helps a bit and let me know if you have any questions!
