The new Sopwith Camel arrived today so I thought I'd see if I could make a start on it. I have a lot of work things going on at the moment so it won't be a quick build, but I'll do what I can when I can.
Here are some sprue shots:

A nice range of different engines:

And some attempts to show the rib stitching which is not as bad as I thought it was going to be:

I also got a few additional parts, including the 'Look' Instrument panel which is quite impressive:

It also has PE wiring/piping which I haven't put on yet.
I am most impressed by their wicker seat, which is actually 3d printed. The material is quite dark so I have over exposed the photo to try and bring out the detail but it really is excellent.

Blimy, that looks beautiful Mark. And so small...
Great and very neat detailing!
I'm in the first row following this one.

That seat is amazing, as are the wings and options. Instruments look great, but the woodgrain on the display looks a bit off to me...
Anyway, so far, looks much, much beter then the original release from many moons ago.

Thanks for the interest everyone. I'm just doing a bit of dry-fitting to try and anticipate any issues and I am blown away by how much better it is than the previous version. Here you can see how they have included shallow holes for the cabane strut rigging. This is repeated throughout the model. It should certainly make the process of rigging a lot simpler.

I agree with you about the woodgrain. I understand why they pre-coloured it, but I would have liked to do it myself. I will see how it looks with everything else and whether it is too much trouble to repaint it.

A little work on the seat this morning:

This is a stunning start on a kit everyone, I'm sure, wants to know about... and all the details as it builds up... great photos... model on! Regards, Marc

Just a notion, Eduard decals are extremely fine and thin.
I am almost ready with a 1/48 Eiko (Japanese F-104) and had much trouble with the decals, folding over on themself and sticking solid on first contact.
When you get them correctly in place, they are beautifull and alomst look like paint, they are that thine and fine but I rather have Cartograph or similar decals.
Best of luck, looks like a very nice kit indeed!!

Great work so far!
Today I got some of the Rotherhamp pumps, also 3D printed. Very nice accessories!
Don't get me wrong, the new Camel kit is nice, but the old one was not that bad and so I would much rather have seen another type of which there is no injection moulding kit yet. But it is clear, the Camel is well known and allows many variants, so the could sell many kits and even more accessories. Simply a business decision.
Cheers,
Frank

Thanks for the encouragement everyone. Quite surprised to have the fuselage all buttoned up already!

Superb start Mark, I've been looking forward to seeing one of these new Eduard Camels come together. It looks a lot more refined than their first offering and you are doing a great job.

that looks to be a nicely detailed 1/48 kit and you've made a great job of putting it together, the IP detail in particular is superb

Thanks everyone. I couldn't resist putting the engine together. The kit has options for a Bentley, Clerget, LeRhone and Gnome. This is the Clerget alongside the older tooling.

I'm interested to see what the Brassin ones look like once they are released.
The attachement point is very shallow. Not a problem if you are gluing the engine in place, but I like it to be able to spin so I glued some spare sprue to make it longer.
