Because of his standing as the Leading Ace in the German Airforce Ernst Udet Acquired an SSW DIII for his use. He was photographed during an official publicity shoot in and around the aircraft. At the time of the demonstration flight the LO monogram had only been added to the right fuselage side. There are No known photos showing that it was ever applied to the left side. Udet was wounded the next day after achieving his final two victories so it is Highly doubtful that he or any Jasta 4 pilot flew the aircraft in combat. I therefore kept this one fairly clean except for stains that would be expected after a flight or two.
This is another of those builds that isn't perfect but is quite satisfying! The fit of the interplane struts at the lower wing is not great but will do for now. By the way, All decals are from the kit, except for the Lozenge.

PS: There are now 21 1/32nd fighters in the JG1 case. ;D

Stunning model Rick. Colours, details, stance all look perfect. Another triumph.
How do you do it? Nieuports, Spads, Triplanes all simultaneously rolling off the production line. You are a modelling Sisyphus!

Very good looking plane, you have made a fine model of this, i don't see any fit issues on struts, lozenge looks great and so does the propeller.

Nice one Rick, well done. Regards, Pete in RI

Thanks for the comments! IMHO this is one of the Most underrated and overly feared of the Roden 1/32nd scale kits. I didn't quite get the interplane struts correct but this would be solved if I owned a Bi Plane alignment jig ::)

Neat and colourful, Rick. Just lovely.

Beautiful work, Rick. The light shining surface of the red parts and the Lozenge look outstanding. Very good work.
Bye Manni.

Absolutely stunning Rick, the build thread sang out that you were having fun with this one. I really think it shows in the finished model which is absolutely beautiful.

You have build a lovely Siemens-Schuckert out of this Roden kit, Rick!
The lozenge wings with the rib tapes looks nice on the red fuselage.
Also a very impressive finishing rate!
Cheers,

Hello, Rick -
This was a great project to follow and what a result!
Lovely job all round in a really colourful scheme - even if Udet never actually flew it. Well done, mate!

Thanks Dave! Just as a "Point of Order", Udet did fly the aircraft just not in combat! 8)

Rick,
You've done a lovely job on this one. I can personally attest to the fact that this Kit takes a bit of extra effort and patience to produce a nice result (despite that it's still in my top 3 favorite Kits in my collection) Congratulations on some very nice work!
Cheers,
Lance

Sorry for being so late at adding my compliments! Another beauty for your display cabinet. 21 fighters of JG 1? Are you trying to model it’s actual strength? :D

You should be quite satisfied with this one and rightfully so. A beautiful result.

Thanks Lance. I had the good fortune to be able to use your build, along with others, to help me out! I am pretty satisfied with My results. It is also now one of My favorites although I have others that are done to a better standard 8)

Thanks Andreas. My original plan was 5 for each Jasta showing the different types used. Jasta 11 has grown to 7 and Jasta 6 only has 4. I will eventually need to balance things out ::)
