Excellent work on a lovely pit Des. I know you have stated you will wait for Rowan's scheme's - have you decided which one you'll go with?

Des,
Outstanding progress my old friend. As always your talent and Master Craftsmanship shine brightly.

Hello Des:
The interior looks wonderful. So clean and nice. I haven't seen Rowan's sheets so will be looking forward to how you are going to mark it. My wife went through great pains to hide this from me. I had no idea she was getting it for me, when tonight I was wrapping one of her gifts and I saw the New Zealand post and customs certificate lying adrift on the wrapping table. I looked at it, chuckled and carefully placed it back and played ignorant. I will be watching this build unfold Des.

boy i cant wait til mine gets here. oddly i ordered my dvii's on nov 29 and the hanny 3 days later when it was released. been having my dvii kits for over 2 weeks but no clii yet. merry christmas all.
-
Excellent! Just curiosity... That airplane didn't had an instrument panel? I have an Airfix 1/72 CL.III and I'll build an interior for it so I guess both aircraft are pretty much the same so I'll use WNW instructions as reference. Best regards.
José.

Hopefully I'll get to open mine today...( Merry Xmas all BTW ). SWMBO allowed me to fondle the sprues in their bags before wrapping it up, whether that was kindness or evil of her I'm not sure. ::) What I saw made me think this could be one of WNW's fiest yet. (Even after waiting so long for the D.VII something about this kitset just shines. Hoseclips etc.
Anyway a lovely start to your build Des and I'll follow you for pointers and such.
Keith

That's looking brilliant, Des. The floor of the observer's 'pit really came out well indeed.
Cheers.

Merry Christmas Keith:
Yes, it is a great kit. I did fondle the plastic the morning. I had to play surprised, I think I was convincing, but; after scoping out the sprues and looking at the directions, I am definately excited about this model. It is definately next on the build list. Like you, I will be watching Des ply his craft. No pressure Des!
Merry Christmas

Wow, Des! You're getting this one together quickly! Outstanding work on the office, as usual, mate. I'm really looking forward to watching her come together. Merry Christmas!
Cheers,

The engine is just about done, I have built this engine OOB with the only added extra being the ignition leads. The exhaust pipes need to be hollowed out, they are unpainted and just sitting in situ for the photo.

Beautiful job on the engine, Des. What did you use for your ignition leads? They lay so naturally.
Cheers,
Bud
-
Thanks Bud. The ignition leads are 0.13mm copper wire, once glued in position they were painted with Humbrol No.94 Brown Yellow.

Looking good so far Des:
OOB looks good to me. Are you going to display the engine compartment open?
-
Really nice, clean work Des. Somewhere in the stash I have the old Airfix kit, and like Jose' I'll be watchmaking carefully to see what I can take from your build and apply one day to the tiny one.
Warren

Great work so far Des got mine a few days ago.
Ron

That engine looks like it just came off the assembly line Des. Immaculate! I always marvel at how you're able to position those ignition wires so precisely without any kinks, and all of them virtual mirror images of each other. Superb!
Cheers,
Chris

Time for another little update. As most of these Hannover kits will be built with lozenge decals I have chosen to be different, I went for option E in the Wingnuts instructions. This aircraft was believed to have been from a training unit, it was used to teach the observer how to use the camera, the radio and/or the machine gun, my aircraft will have all three so my observer has to be a quick learner. The photos show the model still sporting it's full gloss finish, this will be dulled down with a coat of satin clear. I have followed the instruction paint guide supplied by Wingnuts, the only variation was that I substituted the Tamiya XF76 for Humbrol 95. The kit has gone together beautifully, all parts fit perfectly and the detail is amazing, the kit is so easy to put together that the build moves along very quickly.

Des,
Sorry, late coming in on your build -
Looking really great so far - you are really getting this one together quickly too - looking forward to seeing the end result.
Good luck with the rest of the build.

Hello Des,
it is nice camo and work. Hannover is very cool aircraft.

-
Wow!! This one has gone fast. Looks great and nice clean look to that scheme.
Steve
-
That scheme fits perfectly with your fleet, Des. Looks great.
-
Great choice with the training scheme Des, as those above have said - a nice clean look. Those students need to keep these beauties clean!!
Andrew
-
Thanks guys for all your nice comments.
It's not so much the clean look I was after but more something away from the norm. Most of my models are done with a camo scheme so this model, along with the Bristol M1.c are my first two trainer schemes.
I tell you what guys, if you haven't purchased this kit yet it would be a great move if you did, it is a brilliant kit, one of Wingnuts best, I put it on par with their Bristol Fighter. This kit goes together so easy, it could even be recommended as a great starter kit for anyone wanting to build their first WW1 bi-plane. The rigging on this aeroplane is very basic so should not cause any issues. It's not the prettiest looking plane ever designed but it certainly holds it place among the classic WW1 aircraft types.

Good on you Des for doing the trainer version. I bet *very* few will be finished in those markings, but it looks great!
-
Good point on the scheme, my thinking is that so much is open to interpretation on the camouflaged birds that not many will look alike. I guess we'll see....
-
Hello Des:
I like your chosen scheme. I am surprised how rapidly this is going together for you. I buttoned up the fuselage last night and will be doing some sanding, painting etc. today and tomorrow.
I was thinking of doing this scheme, I like the polish markings on the side, and the trainers are something that aren't your garden variety scheme, but; I like the Bavarian scheme and will go with that.
Looking forward to more.
Best

Really lovely, Des! You've got me almost talked into this one.

Des,
Absolutely stunning project to date my old friend. I've been following this project both here and your main sitemwith great interest. I love your choosen color scheme and hope to see more projects following the Trainer Theme. Again outstanding project.

The wings are now fitted, and what a pleasure it was to fit the wings. I have never built a model where the wings went on so easily, this is model kit engineering at its best. I had the inverted top wing sitting on my bench, I then turned the model upside down with the wing struts and cabanes already fitted and placed it on to the top wing, the struts lined up perfefectly with the locating holes in the top wing and just fell into place, no adjustments were needed at all, even the water pipe from the engine fitted exactly into the wing radiator without any prompting. All that's left to do is the rigging and the observers machine gun, the propeller will be replaced with the correct one when it arrives from the UK, I'm using one of Doug's wood propellers.
Bud - if you want a superb kit, one that goes together so easy, fantstic detail and a not so bad looking aeroplane then get this kit, you will not be disappointed.

She's looking mighty fine Des, it's a great scheme - certainly very different from the camo choices.
The heat certainly hasn't slowed you down, hopefully I can get down to see it for real soon!!
Andrew

Mighty fine looking bird, Des ;)
Well done thus far.

Man, Des, this is one hot model! Opps! Sorry, mate. Just don't let 'er melt, alright?
Cheers,
Bud
-
Great workmanship as usual, Des - great looking machine.
Based on what you say regarding fit/construction, I may be tempted to order from WNW on a future order ...............
I also amazed at how quickly everybody is progressing (me included) on their respective WNW builds.
Regards
Dave

Nice to see this one with the top wing on. Your progress is encouraging me to finish Albatros D.V as soon as possible and put my fingers to Cl.II!
-
Hello Des:
Looking good with the wing on. I have another one of these on the shelf. I think I will do it in the scheme you have chosen. I am still in paint mode on mine. Your progress is motivating and I will be checking often to see how you are doing. One ?? The upper wing has these little "nodes". I almost trimmed them off, but left them on thinking they belonged. It creates a gap between the wing and the upper wing section. I am thinking they are supposed to be there. Did you leave those on? It looks like you did.
Best
Mark
-
Thanks Mark. Yes, I left the little nodes on, they are supposed to be there, same applies for the bottom wings. A photo on page 13 of the instructions (top right picture) clearly shows the gap, page 30 also shows a picture of a crashed aircraft which again shows the gap.
I have most of the rigging just about completed, it is quite an easy model to rig, my only main concern is the correct location of the rigging batons, like all of Wingnuts rigging guides they are a little obscure.

Photos of the completed model are now in the completed model section.
