This is my new project, and my first Roden kit. I painted some lozenge pattern inside the fuselage halves with brush using Vallejo acrylics, lightly misting with highly diluted Tamiya buff to get that reverse fabric effect.

Hello, Matti -
This Roden kit is a pretty good kit, so good choice.
Impressive start with your painted (reverse) lozenge.
Regards
Dave
-
Thank you :)
It seems to be a good kit, although i have read it has its flaws, mainly the decals that are tricky.
-
First I Love the subdued reverse Lozenge effect you painted! Next I think the one flaw I remember is that some Modification of either the fuselage or lower wings is needed to get the lower wings in place?

Looking forward to seeing this come together Matti. I agree with Rick, the translucent effect of the lozenge showing through the cockpit walls is a lovely touch. I would never have thought of that.

Tagging along as this one unfolds ! Excellent job on painting the rev-loz !
It is the lower wing which will need sanding to get her to fit and make sure the engine mounts are center or you will have issues fitting the cowl panels and the outer wing struts are to short . But it is an excellent kit and I like it better then Eduards offering .

Thank you all for positive comments & tips :-)
-
Nice kit. I like the painted lozenge on the fuselage.
-
That is a super rendition of the lozenge in the interior. Looking forward to seeing you perform more magic on this kit.
Stephen.

Wow, hand painted lozenge sounds hardcore.

Aviattic offers invers printed, toned down sheets for that:

Thanks quys :)
I am thinking to order Aviattic lozenge just in case if kits originals are just as bad i have tead they are.

Thanks quys :)

I would certainly advise that for the wing/ and fuselage if needed. I would repeat that I Love your painted and subdued interior lozenge!

I can only agree with this.

I ordered 2 sets of Aviattic decals today, one for Fokker and one for Albatros, but i will try the Rodens offering first and see how they behave.

After celebrating my girlfriends birthday and the Mothers Day this weekend, i managed to steal some time for my project, cockpit parts are almost done, i made the seat cushion from Tamiya epoxy putty, buttons from plastic rivets, i also used seatbelts from Eduard pe set, from that same set i took the throttle lever and some instruments, only some touch ups remain and the fuselage halves can be glued together.

Thanks!
I am quite pleased, wash is maybe too dark, i used Mig dark wash, usually i mix washes from oils.
-
Excellent work on your interior, Matti. That camo pattern on the interior walls turned out exceptionally well indeed.
Cheers,
Gary
-
Many thanks Gary :)
-
Really nice work on that cockpit, Matti! You have a sure touch and bring out the best! Regards, Marc.
-
Thank you :-)
-
Super internal details. I just hope that most of them will be visible when you close up the fuselage.
Stephen.
-
Thanks :-)
-
Lovely work on the interieur, Matti. The seatbelts look great.
Bye,
Manni

Thanks Manni :)

Fuselage halves and cowling pieces glued together. So far nearly every part in this kit has required trimming, even carving and constant test fitting before final assembly. Upper cowling pieces seem to need some extra work too to fit properly in place :-\

Progressing, nicely, Matti -
Good work carried out in the cockpit.

Great progress! You may be facing construction challenges but you seem to be overcoming them in style!

I hope i will :-)

I think you are doing a great job, despite the extra challenges.

Thanks :-)

Primer coat on today, some places need more filler and sanding, the thing in modelling i hate the most.
(https://hosting.photobucket.com/images/i/mattim37/IMG_20210518_162512.jpg?width=1920&height=1080&fit=bounds) (https://app.photobucket.com/u/mattim37/p/18aa6a1d-0c4b-46dc-ba00-cbf320d31e52)
-
Excellent progress! I hate filling and sanding but once the primer/paint starts flowing I begin to like the Model again ;D Speaking of Filling and sanding did you have to do much to get the lower wing to fit?
RAGIII
-
I removed quite a bit of plastic to get that lower wing to fit, too much tbh :) and had to use tape to get the right dihedral.
-
looking good Matti .
Alexis
-
Thanks :)
-
Absolute yes! I hate filling and sanding. I always manage to sand off details and still see every hole.
I cross my fingers for you.
Manni
-
Sounds familiar ;)
I use Vallejo plastic putty for smaller gaps, works perfectly and no sanding required.
-
I painted the fuselage and primed the wings for the lozenge decals which arrived today :)
Some touch ups and clear coat on this evening and tomorrow i will start the decaling work.

Thank you! :)

Looking wonderful so far, Matti -
Great to see some colour and markings on
Regards
Dave

Nice work Matti :)
Alexis
-
Thank you both :)

Aviattic decals went on smoothly, only minor trimming was needed and Micro Sol and Set worked perfectly with them.

Lozenge turned out great ! :)

Great work, Matti. Very nice scheme. Cool shading and the Lozenge looks perfect.

Thank yoy!

I'm liking this a lot, Matti! Very neat work and a great scheme.... Regards, Marc.

Thanks Marc :-)

Building this kit has been anything but enjoyable so far, today i battled with interplane struts, which needed trimming (surprise) to get them to align properly, how i wish Tamiya would make WW1 planes!

No surprise but it looks like you mastered the fit of the struts! To Me it gives more satisfaction when I actually win the Battle... 8) Really looking Terrific!
RAGIII
-
You've clearly worked some magic and beaten the less than precise engineering of the kit. Despite not having fun it looks wonderful.
Richie
-
Thanks guys :)
Thinking positively, next Rodens Fokker is easier to build now that i know it's shortcomings.
