Well I do have a bit or room to start this one while the Pfalz is going to be a work in progress on and off . Since this is a straight forward kit and one I have built before . It will be out of the box , nothing overly fancy . What inspired this one was Lance's beautiful Fokker and Marc's ...just something about an all red Tri Decker :)
Alexis
-
Everyone needs a red Triplane 8) I am looking forward to your build Alexis!
RAGIII
-
It is true , everyone needs one at some point ;)
Alexis
-
Great to see this Alexis, I'll be following your progress with great interest!
Cheers,
Lance

Blimey Alexis,
Slow down.. you’re making me dizzy ???
So much so... I was calling my Alexa Alexis last night and wondered why it wasn’t working :P ;D
Guy
-
Thanks Lance :) Step in at any time with your feedback :)
Guy , stop spinning around in circles and you won't be dizzy ;) :) Works wonders and I speak with experience ;D
Now what do you mean slow down ???
However , are you all right ? You seem to be getting folks names mixed up !!!
Alexis
-
:o
;D
-
Oh, we seems to have the red weeks! ;D
Have fun with that project,
Frank
-
Looking forward to seeing this one come together Alexis. There does seem to be a swarm of trideckers at the moment.
Stephen.
-
Danke Frank und Stephen :)
I had some time today to get started on this . All parts are freed and ready for clean up starting with the cockpit parts . I did break one of the seat supports while removing it ::)
The frame work I'm going to follow everyone else and go with black . I really like how it contrast against the wood and linen :)
Alexis
-
It's a start Alexis!
RAGIII
-
It is a start and parts should start seeing some paint today !
Alexis
-
Excellent start, Alexis. That's a cool kit, and does include the little Pour le Merit badge, which you can wear whilst building it :)
Cheers,
Gary
-
Alexis,
It's good to see you dive into another WWI build. I haven't had much time for modeling lately.
I'll enjoy the hobby through your build.
Kevin
-
This project gets my 100% approval, of course, Alexis! So glad Rick and I got you going on this! I remember building this kit quite a few years ago as a club "Speed build" and I found it easy and well detailed, but I remember breaking those seat supports too! As we all say, you can never have too many red triplanes! Does it come with PE? Regards, Marc.
-
Good start Alexis (except for breaking the seat support...!), - looks as though this one is going to come together quickly.
Stephen.
-
Thanks Gary , I don't recall what I did with the pin . I think I ended up giving it to my brother , He collects pins .
Well Kevin , hope I can keep up with my standards then ;)
Marc , thanks for the approval :) Last one I built was a quick build and I have a feeling this will be as well . Already repair the seat support .
Hi Stephen , yup a nice quick easy build ...fingers crossed ;)
I started with the painting of the dope linen and the cockpit parts which need black . Black basing for the engine is done as well . This is drying as of right now . Pic's will follow once the pit is finished .
Alexis
-
Here is where I'm at this moment with the build . All the cockpit parts have their base coat on the the wood effect is done using pencil crayons , only a top coat of clear yellow was used for paint . With a sealing coat of future with a bit of brown paint was used as a wash and wipe away off the fabric areas with a brush . Engine has it's base coat , set for further weathering .

Outstanding start on the pit Alexis! Lovely wood tones! Looking forward to More!!
RAGIII
-
Thanks Rick :)
Alexis
-
Looks good! I like your crayon wood finish.
/Fredrik
-
Whose clear yellow do you use? I've used both GSI and Tamiya. Both come out too YELLOW. Yours has a nice tone. I'm sure I'm doing something wrong....
-
Such a great start, Alexis! I get flashbacks to my build, but yours is better! You are right about the black framework... ATB, Marc.
-
Neat work Alexis ;)
Guy
-
Thanks guys for the positive comments :)
Phil , I used Tamiya clear yellow . What helped with the tones is the base shade and the effect of the pencil crayons . For the base I used Tamiya deck tan followed by four different shades of the crayons and used a blending stick over top . I sealed this with two thin coats of Tamiya clear you . 50/50 with their lacquer thinner .
Halves are joined together and there was some fit issues but nothing major . I did end up losing one of the filling caps , but I used have spare PE for this . The lower stitching part was wrapped and didn't sit flush . I used it anyway , sanded it , filled it , sanded some more and will replace this with spare PE from the parts bin . Engine is ready for assembly once the paint has fully dried .

Wow Alexis you have not wasted any time at all! Your triplane is looking awesome!
RAGIII

All is coming along real nice and I think you can't go wrong with the Red one.
Have fun
-
Thanks guys :)
Didn't have much going yesterday Rick , but - not worrying about the details or adding it does go pretty quick . ;)
Alexis
-
I miss a couple of days and this one is more than half done! The engine looks good Alexis - shame that most of it will be covered up!
Stephen.
-
Alexis, I posted on 25th in this thread, and there was only the box visible. And my computer shows me now a 28 OF THE SAME MONTH and you have closed the fuselage already and more things are done!?!? Now I guess you would also be able to do a Eduard Weekend kit on a weekend, which is a complete mystery for me!
Great work so far!
Cheers,
Frank
-
Thanks Stephen and Frank , I have made more progress just not what I was aiming for today . The lacing on the under side is replace and I did have metal disc which worked prefekt for the oil and fuel caps . Landing gear legs are set to go ...everything is ready for primer and paint :) Engine is set to now . I didn't use the PE push rods , they just don't look right .
Frank , I don't think I would be able to do a kit in a weekend . Two days is pushing it !

Already looking great Alexis!
I am curious to what she will look like once she's got her paints on!
Willem

Purdy engine. Waiting to see how you do the red.
-
Thanks Rick and Willem , colours are coming soon ... ;)
Alexis
-
Looking good so far, Alexis
Your rotary engine looks spot on.
Regards
Dave
-
Thanks for the kind comments Dave :)
Yesterday I started with the primer which lead to pre-shading and that ended up with everything getting a coat of nice red paint !
For the primer I used Tamiya Neutral Grey followed by pre-shading with Tamiya Dull Red in their lacquer line of paints . The Red I used Tamiya Pure Red form their lacquer line as well . This was heavily thinned and built up many layers some areas more than others .

Lovely red bird Alexis! Looking great!
RAGIII

She looks beautifull Alexis!
Willem

I had no time to notice you started this build and it's already close to completion! :o
Very well done.
Ciao

Thanks guys for dropping by with positive comments !
Should be able to start with the decaling today and maybe some weathering with detail painting tossed in . :)
Alexis
-
Decals are on , detail painting is done and clear coated ! Not much left to go now other then some weathering and final assembly . Prop has it's laminations sprayed , prop painted and sealed with clear . Still have the prop logo's to apply and weather the prop boss .
Alexis
-
:)
-
Alexis, I like that your doing the "as delivered" scheme of 425/17 with the Eisenkreuz instead of the more commonly later version in which Von Richthofen was killed. 8)
-
Lovely progress, Alexis! The markings are looking sooo good! Regards, Marc.
-
Awesome Alexis! The Markings make this one come alive!
RAGIII
-
Thanks guys ,
Almost got her beat today ! Little more weathering to go before final assembly . Might have this button up tomorrow if everything goes well !
For the weathering I used Flory's Grime wash and for the underside I used Flory's Black clay wash and the cowl got a bit of black as well . I had problems fitting the guns and the ammo feeds need to be trimmed down to fit . Don't recall having to do this one the last one I built , but oh well ::)

Excellent Alexis. I Love te finish and your prop is amazing!
RAGIII

Thanks Rick :)
Alexis

This looks great, Alexis. Looking forward to seeing it done.
-
Yep, me too, very nice Alexis :)
Guy
-
Thank you very much guys :)
Okay I didn't get her finished after all , weather was nice so it was time to bring the mountain bike out and go for a ride ! :)
I did get the top wing mounted with the lading gear and a few more pin washes here and there . This all needs to get sealed for round two on the weathering . With a shiny surface pastels won't adhere so it will get a coat of flat .
Alexis
-
:)
-
I think it already looks great Alexis!
Willem
-
I'm loving it! What a gorgeous plane.
I can learn something from your speed of building.
-
A Lovely Red Bird standing on its' legs!
RAGIII
-
Ooh! Looking good, Alexis! ATB, Marc.
-
Almst there !, along with your other projects !!
Ed
-
Thank you so much guys !
However , the only thing I did yesterday was spray an semi matt finish for the pastels to stick to . Other then that I had no bench time in . Weather was excellent so I adventure outdoors and started yard work ! Tore down a fence and cut down 7 trees ....I'm really sore today ! I might get time in today , weather is crap with rain coming ...so If I can lift my arms .....
Alexis
-
Ah that really is coming along lovely now, Alexis -
Looking forward to seeing this one completed soon.
Regards
Dave
-
I have not dropped by for a few days and this has gone from pre-painting to nearly finished! I too like the earlier crosses on this machine - different from the more usual representations as already mentioned. It looks super Alexis - and I am looking forward to seeing the completed model.
I too come home twice a week knackered with after effects the following day as I am involved with a nature conservation group - great when the weather is fine and sunny/warm - just that the after effects remind me that I am not as young as I like to think and cut into irreplaceable modelling time!!!
Stephen.
-
Thanks Dave and Stephen for the encouraging comments :)
Well I didn't get it finished like I was hoping today. Hard time trying to move my arms ! but I did finish round two of the weathering and sealing coat . Tail skid is now in place with the wing tip skids joining in that as well . The wing tip skids aren't from the kit . Kit ones where broken so these are from the parts bin which came from a trashed Dragon Dr.1 that Blau broke when he was kitten . I totally forgot to drill rigging holes for the landing gear legs so mod PE parts from the bin solved that problem . Only thing that is left to finish is the tail section and this kit is finished !

Continuing to be an excellent build Alexis!

I always enjoy you following along with your support :) :) :)
Alexis

Agree with Rick - a super build and thread. And built at high speed too!
Stephen.

Well done Alexis! It looks great! I enjoyed the lightening build! Regards, Marc.

What a beautiful bird this has become Alexis!
Willem

Thanks guys ! But come on now ....it wasn't that fast of a build ;)
