Halberstadt CL.II
This is the Schlachtflieger Halberstadt CL.II in 1/48, a Mirage kit with add ons a lot of scratch work.
This is one of my models with bigger effort due to decals and the complicated paint job. The kit provide a great level of detail with many parts, but some of them has a bad fit.
I really like the new metal parts, especially the undercarriage and the wooden airscrew.
To see also the nice internal parts like the cockpit I recommended to visit the build report:

And no, this is not the WNW kit ;)

One of the best builds I have seen you do and that is saying a LOT! Simply Brilliant build. As always I loved following your log and processes!

Marvellous work, Frank. I'll be well pleased if my 1/32 one looks anything like as good as this.

It’s alright I suppose Frank, if you like that kind of thing... :D
Actually, it’s rather awesome! Superb work all round and I admire your persistence over the inevitable bumps along the way. I tend to give up!
Really top drawer model. Now you can tell us what’s next ;)

Frank,

But you did a fantastic job. Your build looks amazing.

A fine example of your very best work Frank! Great finish, clean work all round, and a tremendously impressive list of scratch built and/or upgraded improvements to take it into the exceptional category. Congratulations on a beautiful model!
Cheers,
Lance

Ad my compliments to all of the above, wonderful work in all aspects !

It is an absolute beauty, wish it was standing in my display cabinet!!!!
-
Not the WNW kit? Well you could have fooled me!
That is simply splendid beyond words Frank. The extra details are marvellous - the more so as they are in the intermediate scale. I would have had difficulty putting them on in a larger scale.
Stephen.

Excellent work, Frank. I don't think the scale has limited the detail work you have done. The paint looks great.
For the first time I have noticed the longerons sticking out of the fuselage sides. Interesting.
(Probably shouldn't run the motor with no one around.)
-
Very sharp!! You cant have too many great colours!!!!

Absolutely fantastic looking model, Frank. Every aspect of your build is top-notch, and a pleasure to look at.
Cheers,

At first thank you very much for your great feedback! Highly appreciated!

Ah, a polite answer ;)
I'll be well pleased if my 1/32 one looks anything like as good as this.
The WNW seems to be a great kit! May be the details are not a that level ;D ;D ;D
Superb work all round and I admire your persistence over the inevitable bumps along the way. I tend to give up!
Beside the great result it was sometimes not an easy build! But it is almost forgotten if you look at it :D
Now you can tell us what’s next ;)
I will try to finish a shelf queen! If this is not working, I will take a deep look into my stash.
It is an absolute beauty, wish it was standing in my display cabinet!!!!
Oh, it's located now behind security glass, and the doors are locked. 8)
Not the WNW kit?
No Stephen. That is the dark side of the scale!
For the first time I have noticed the longerons sticking out of the fuselage sides. Interesting.
Ken you mean that area on top and below "Brünhilde"?

I think that is due to the wooden fuselage instead of the usual fabric. I guess they nailed the sides to the longerons, and then the upper and lower shells. To avoid that the wood bends off there seems to be a stripe on top of that.
You cant have too many great colours!!!!
Oh yes, I really like it colorful! All those colorful aircraft moved me into this area of our hobby.
Again, thank you all for your nice words!
I hope to get some outdoor shots soon after the weather gets better.
Cheers,
Frank

Spectacular results, Frank. I like very much the fine shading, the splatter camo and the striking markings. And bearing in mind that it is not WNW but Mirage kit makes my awe very much higher! Congratulations on this amazing build.
-
I can only echo all deserved compliments on this. If looking without warnings it's impossible to tell this is not the WNW and a very well executed and finished one and the build log was a great pleasure to follow.
Ciao

Frank -
What superb work on your Halberstadt - I actually thought is was larger scale than is so well done!

Thank you PrzemoL, Giuseppe and Dave!
If looking without warnings it's impossible to tell this is not the WNW
That was my target in this project to come very close to the famous WNW.
That is not the flawless perfect model what we always want have, but this time I'm very close. ;)
It's just an absolute pity that you can see almost nothing of the beautiful brass tank, but we do have the build report :D
Cheers,
Frank

Hiya Frank, I hope you are well old friend. I see you haven't lost your magic touch in the time I've been off radar. This is a really beautiful model as always, what a great scheme too!
Richie

Hey Richie, welcome back!
Many thanks for your nice words. Oh yes, the scheme is great and to build this biplane was a very special journey.
Cheers,
Frank

Fantastic build Frank. The paintjob wasn't the easiest one but you did a real great job.

Thank you Ferry! This machine is currently my favourite in the cabinet :)

On last weekend I visited the Euro Model Expo 2022 in Lingen which is the biggest model exhibition in Germany.
Since it was my first time, I had full freedom in choosing some of my models for the competition :)
The Halberstadt CL.II won a gold medal in the category aircraft in scale 1:48 Master class (there was in each category Beginner, Standard and Master) at the Euro Model Expo 2022 in Lingen.
Here together with my other medals.
I have two gold medals in the same category. According to the written jury instructions (which could be viewed on the internet beforehand), the candidates were to be re-evaluated in the case of identical points, but as far as I know the jury did not feel able to do this and reported back in this way, so a total of 3 models in 1:48 were awarded gold here.
It makes me very happy to have won three gold medals in the Master class 8)
Cheers,
Frank

Congratulations Frank! The awards are well deserved.
