Title: What gauge monofilament for 1/72?
Post by: Softscience on November 26, 2020, 04:51:16 AM
As stated in the title, what gauge monofilament would look nice for 1/72 wiring. Looking around online, the smallest I found was 0.22 mm, but that seems a little on the heavy side.

I've been using nylon thread, for control wires and such, but I have a really hard time getting the floppy threads through small holes, and feel like mono would work better.

Softscience,

My reply to Jim on 1/48th scale rigging contains 1/72nd and 1/32nd scale sizes as well.  Here's a quick link:

Hopefully you can find a cross reference from measured size to fishing line gauge.

Tippet line is a bit more flexible than standard fishing line. This is an advantage when used for rigging.  Can be purchased at fly fishing shops. The size numbers are like drill numbers where a higher number indicates a small diameter. These dimensions are in inches.
 5X is .006
 6X is .005
 7X is .004
 8X is .003

I use this

It scales out to 4.32mm which is almost bang on for 1:72. You'll need to run it over a permanent marker so you can see it though!
