Title: Can I build an accurate Oeffag Albatros D III from the Roden D III kit?
Post by: James Reagan on November 07, 2020, 05:29:35 AM
If I add an Ausro Daimler engine to the Roden kit am I on the way to building a 53 or 153 Austro Hungarian aircraft?  Which engine did they take  I believe Copper State offers two 1/32 scale engines.  I think we will see an Austrian version from Roden in the future so this just a future thought.  I have the Battle Axe Albatros kit which I can cannibalize for parts.  I'd prefer seing a 253 version being offered to current modeling standards.

You would be on the way but not quite there. I believe the interior is considerably different, especially the Instrument panel. Not an expert but were the guns different and or mounted internally? You could look at eduards 1/48th kit instructions for detail variances  8)

PS: If I recall correctly a different radiator and engine covers.

I think the fuselage panels were different too.  See this drawing (sorry for lousy photo from my computer screen):

I plan top do the same thing you're doing at some point.  Good luck!
