Title: Cross drilling micro tube or rod?
Post by: Chuckt5 on December 09, 2012, 02:51:21 PM
I am attempting to drill a .03mm hole cross ways in a peice of .05mm plastic rod.  :'(

Does anyone have and tips on to do this?

I'm bouncing a couple of ideas around in my head but wondering if someone has some techniques they can share?

Thanks in advance, Chuck.

Hi Chuck,
A small drill press would do the trick. Or you could try making up a jig.
Ron Kootje came up with a great idea. Picture below. Very clever!  ;)

So you just shim the part up until its centred, hold it with tape then turn the drill by hand right? Its so simple its scarey thats why the dopey question...

What about putting a flat surface (stock sheet for example) on top of the rod and drill through both. A jig to hold said items might make lining it up easier too.

Never tried it just thinking out loud.

Great idea!  ;)

I'll see what I can come up with and report my results. Thanks again, Chuck.
