Hi everyone!
I have just gotten back into the hobby a few months ago after an absence of many years and am finally starting to build models again. What an enjoyable pass-time! I am kicking myself for not getting back to it sooner, but like they say "better late than never".
I am retiring in a few months from my job on the Railway, and look forward to being able to put much more time into my modeling, but in the mean time, I have begun by building a few planes so far. I am working on 1/48th models as a compromise between old eyes and display space limitations.
I have fallen in love with the aircraft of WW I, and have collected a few for my stash, mostly Eduard models, so that will keep me occupied for some time.
I live in Saskatchewan, a prairie province of Canada. Hard to pronounce, even harder to live here in the winter. Very flat country, mostly grain farming area. Beautiful country in it's own way, but definately an aquired taste.
I am so happy to have come across Des's site and will be popping in the forum from time to time to say hi and display some of my handywork. You will have to bear with me as my skills aren't all that good yet, but, with practice should improve. I am so glad I have the rest of you for inspiration!

Welcome Ernie! This is a great forum to learn and improve on, and you'll enjoy seeing all of the great models of others here. They are very inspirational!
I read about the Saskatoon Blades in Ken Dryden's book "Home Game." Isn't Gordie Howe a Saskatchewan native? Love those brown and orange grain hoppers, too. Although I'm from Pennsylvania, I'm a lifelong hockey fan and railroad buff, as well as enjoing WWI aircraft. Did you work for CN, CP, Via or one of the regionals?

Welcome aboard from a fellow Canuck. I'm just across the west border in Oil Country, spent a great deal of my youth in SK. on a farm. You've come to a great place, lots of interest and no end of good helpful Folks to get you up and spinning again.

Welcome to the forum, Ernie. 3 years ago, I was in exactly your position in regards to modeling. I've learned an awful lot here, and on other sites, in those 3 years and, like you, so glad I came back to the hobby.

It's always good to see another Canuck join up. Welcome aboard Ernie. I'm on the north shore of Lake Ontario east of "The Centre of the Universe" and I know you'll understand what that is. You couldn't find a better bunch of guys to hang out with, especially once you're retired and have more time to build WWI era aircraft.

P.S. If you have those lingering doubts about retirement as most of us do, forget about them. They actually pay you to stay home, so it's definitely the best "job" I've ever had!

welcome onboard. Respect to your decision in 1/48 scale modeling. For me it was the same start by building modern aircraft after a break of almost 30 years. For WWI my later choice was 1/32 but i am still admire everyone who gets this details don to 1/48 or 1/72. Please excuse my english, I have not often the ability to speak or write in english, except on holidays or on some international events that i am taking part in. Winter's now entering my region with temperature near minus ten and lots of snow. I am living in Bonn, the former capitol of Germany, ten miles away from Remagen, where the Amiricans took over the Rhein in WWII.
