Title: Danish Navy HM1
Post by: fredjocko on July 25, 2020, 01:55:16 AM
Hi:

The HM1 is the licensed Danish built Hansa Brandenburg W.29. I started this about a month ago. I had started a WNW W.29 kit a few years ago and boxed it up, because of squirrels (in my old age I am easily distracted, now). Here is the started cockpit (it is a little dusty, noticed when I was uploading the pictures). I painted the wings and tried my hand at making the Danish roundels and I detailed the engine. The exhaust was made by Kent Karlsen. I had to modify the pilot's coaming as there were no machine guns carried on the Danish plane. Thank you for looking

I started getting my mojo back when I built an 1/48 AMT Tigercat in RN markings during the Suez Crisis earlier this year. I have built more models since March than I have since 2014. Glad tp hear you're building.

Hi:

I finished the cockpit; unfortunately, I was so caught up in the build i completely forgot to take any pictures before I sealed up the fuselage. So, here are a few shots of the fuselage and what you can see of the interior. Thank you

Hi:

I finally figured out the stencil thing for the numbers. I made the stencils for the underside wing numbers, the fuselage numbers, and the Denmark Navy pennant. I sprayed the numbers and the masks worked flawlessly and I didn't stretch my luck so I stopped before the pennants. I am really starting to like this build. Thank you, Carl

Hi:

I painted the Danish Navy pennants last night. They didn't work as easily as the numbers did; of course, the numbers were only one step. I am liking this whole stencil versus decal thing though. Thank you for looking.

The initial shape for the white background.

A modeler made me the exhaust. The early aircraft had black fuselage numbers and the conventional six pipe exhaust.

Thank you. I’m really liking the stencil thing. There is a guy in our club that dabbles with the Cricut and he made the stencils for me. I’m tempted to get the shilouette cutter and make my own, it can’t be that hard... The machine is so much more accurate than the circle cutter.

Started working on the floats. I couldn’t find the plastic mooring rings that came in the kit (I started this project several years ago, so who knows where they went), so I filled in the hole and made a ring out of copper wire and threaded a jump ring threw them and glued into the floats.

I decided to install a ring with a brace onto the center brace of the floats to attach the floats rigging. I also installed the eyelets for the float rigging.

Got the floats rigged using the ring on the center brace. If I anything I think the jump ring diameter should be less and the gauge a little less; other than that I really like the look. I also added the tachometer and wiring. I’m seeing the end. Thank you

I have been swamped at work so haven’t had much time to work on my HM1 the past few days. Had some time to play today so I added the exhaust. The exhaust was made by Kent Karlsen and it fit perfectly. I didn’t need any filler between the two pieces. The hardest part was drilling the holes in the fuselage for the exhaust supports. It is starting to look the part.

I have finished my Danish Navy HM1. I finished it off with the amazing Proper Plane propeller. I just need to do the dollies and make a base. I really enjoyed the challenge of painting markings instead of using decals.

Thank you. I like yours much better. I'm pretty happy with it though and one thing I decided is to use more masks for the markings. Thank you so much for your assistance, the parts, and answering my endless questions.

No worries Carl, I'm happy to help if I can. How many W.29's have you finished now?

That realli is an eye-catching model. A familiar type in unfamiliar markings, but very well finished. It will look even more interesting on a base - looking forward to that.

Thank you. I’m looking forward to stretching my comfort level on that part as well.
