Here is my depiction of Josef Jacob's Fokker Dr.1 in 1/32 scale. I have used a Roden kit and made modifications as was on Jacob's craft - Clerget 9B engine from Copper State Models (with a cowling made from spun aluminum) and braces on the landing gear. The God of the North Wind graphic was taken from an enhanced photograph of Jacob's plane. The finish on his plane was glossy black.
I am very pleased with the result, and the pictures. I thought the black would make it hard to capture the details and shape of the plane, but this was not the case.
There is a build thread in the 'Under Construction' sub forum.

Oh, very beautiful indeed! Thanks for sharing your build (-log) here with us!

Sheer brilliance Ken, that is just superb! I actually laughed out loud when I saw the pictures. Even though I followed the build I have no idea how you managed to produce such a perfect Dr1.
Richie the astonished. :)

Beautiful gloss finish (looks right from the photos),and the 'God of the North Wind' artwork looks spot on.
I have a Josef Jacobs autographed Sanke card that I hope to match up with a model of his triplane soon!
Best wishes,
Jason

Lovely Model, and doubly so with the superb treatment of the gloss black finish! The hand turned cowling is a real show stopper and the fuselage logo is brilliant!

Probably the best looking Dr.I and you have done it up perfectly. Enjoyed watching it come together and am enjoying looking at the finished model.

Thanks, everyone, for all the nice comments. I have to admit, she looks good in the pictures. The light weathering doesn't show up at all - its actual appearance is dirtier looking.
Overall the Roden is pretty good. I think it could be improved with better engineering rather than more detail. The soft plastic doesn't help with the slender pieces and lack of locating holes for some parts would be improvements I would make.
Keep on modeling!

Very nice, Ken. Good stuff

This is the only Dr.I livery which might tempt me to build one. Yours is very finely done. As usual, a great model!

That is a great build, Ken! This model has many nice aspects, but I like the cowling most!
Cheers,

Thanks for commenting Przemol and Frank.
The cowling was made necessary by the aftermarket engine.
As they say - necessity is the mother of invention - meaning a need leads to a creation.
