I usually have several builds on the go at the same time, in the background has always been my first WNW kit - a Sopwith Pup
I don't know what it is about this one, it has stalled several times since I started way back in September 2010: http://www.theaerodrome.com/forum/showthread.php?t=49407
While trying to keep my hands of the DH.2 to let the tail booms set, I was browsing through some stored builds - a Cirrus Moth, a Roland C.II, a Hobbycraft Camel and happened to pick this one up again
Somehow, rigging a single bay biplane with well located spars doesn't seem particularly daunting now. And I seem to have got past my 'research/accuracy' obsession. Maybe this one will get finished!
I have posted about this one on another forum somewhere, I can't remember where
Pictures to follow

I notice that most of the pictures on The Aerodrome are missing. I have them, I shall post some here

Thanks, Richard. Photobucket gutted too many outstanding threads ... like yours.

Looking forward to seeing the photos and a resumption of this build.
I do not know how you people managge to have several builds on the go at the same time: I have difficulty keeping track of one at any one time!

The answer is to box the damn thing when the fun stops!
The fun stopped a few times on this one. I got totally obsessed with adding every tiny detail - naturally you can't see them in the closed up cockpit. Anyone wanting to look up the tail skid hole will find the fuselage rigged - I'm not doing that again!
Not much story on this, I don't remember doing some of this modelling

Nice detailing , Richard.

The picture of B1807 I'm using has a black lump to the left of the windshield, which I think is an Aldis sight. So I made one:

Meanwhile, the fuselage has sprouted threads

The sight looks excellent! Another Tangle of wires that I am sure you will sort out ::)

I'm not doing that again!
aww, but...but...lol. Okey...I won't hold it against you. ;D
Another great build Richard.

Richard,
What drawings are you using, and where might they be available? They look very detailed and I'd like to get them.
Thanks,

Hi Gene,
they are copies of the SARD (Southern Aircraft Repair Depot) drawings, published by Albatros in 2009. The drawings are reprints of those used to repair Sopwith Scouts (or Pups if you prefer) and are very detailed
The publication seems to be out of print, I can't even find a reference to it on the website

Looking good Richard , nice job on the sight .

Beautiful build Richard, at least IMHO. I'll build one of these one day, as of now, the Pup is the only WNW kit I own. Meanwhile, I'll mess up some 1/72nd kits first. ;)

It's a very good, well designed kit. And being a single bay biplane not too much rigging. The way the struts are handled is particularly good. I have built 1:72 kits that are far worse
My problems were mostly due to things I did in addition to the kit parts
And a Sopwith Pup must be one of the most beautiful WW1 aeroplanes

For example. The upper wing fixed in place on the cabane struts:
All nice and well located, leading edges parallel and enough flex in the wings to fit the outer struts later. This way, I have good access to the cabane to do the rigging without the struts getting in the way

Looks Fantastic Richard.

It looks good! Nice, clean and precise!

Terri
Invisible thread, copper wire eyelets and brass tubes. Same as the DH.2

Good to see another Pup nearing completion. Nice work, Richard.

She looks great! I have always liked the lines of the Pup and would like to build this kit myself some day.
Keep going!

This project seems to have gained a bit of momentum:

Nice, accurate rigging around the tail and landing gear, Richard.
I see this version has a propellor driven air pump on the landing gear strut.

You may be aware, this project has been going on for years. Yesterday, I knocked off several things that had been causing me to shelve this, like the rudder lines, the flying wires under the lower wing and that Rotherham pump
I have often found this - things that appear impossible when thinking about them turn out to be simple when you have tools in your hand

Excellent results on the tail rigging! I agree completely about things you let hold you back on a model. On My Off Topic build it was the Nacelle conversion, turned out to be pretty straightforward... also a four year delay ::)

Nice work on the tail Richard , I'm at that stage with the rumpler ....I feel the annoyance . I'm looking forward on future progress , so far this is turning out to be a cracker !

I think, at last, this one is done!

So there we are, a Gnome engined WNW Sopwith Pup from before WNW made one. Vector resin engine, vac formed cowl made by me
