It has been 3 weeks since I started this build. It is the Harry Tate from the Duellist boxing.
The interior of the cockpit is now done, the fuselage is being prepared to accept the innards.
I have added lots of cables, 3 silver fairings over the pulleys for control cables in the observer's pit, replaced the seat belts for textile HGW ones, scraped the rear of the pilot seat to open the gaps between the wicker pieces and opened the slots in the fuselage rear for the cables to rudder and tailskid.
Next step will be the RAF4a engine.

Another Gorgeous build underway! Outstanding work to date as always!

Amazing work. I waited a long time for you to show what you have already done with him :D. I look forward to further progress. I learn a lot based on your achievements. :)

O'boy here we go ! :) I'm ready , this is going to awesome 8)
Terri
-
Fantastic start P, looking forward to your progress.
-
You're off to a spectacular start, my friend! I'm glad to see you're doing an RE8, as I'm trying to finish an old Aeroclub 1/48 RE8 that I started 8 years ago. Now I can use your build as a guide. Thank You!
Cheers,
Bud
-
Great start. Looking forward to your next updates of this iconic plane.
Bye,
Manni

Definitely a favourite of mine.. can’t wait to follow this one Prze!
Lot of rigging already!!
Guy
-
Eagerly following!! 👍
-
Ready...done...stop building...sit on your hands. Always so sad to see beautiful interiors like this disapear inside a thing with wings. :(
Robin ;D
-
Nice clean build, Przemol. Nice touch, thinning the control cable exits.
-
Stunning! 👍
-
I agree with Robin: stop building now and let the world see properly what you have done so far: it could be a free standing model in its own right.
Stephen.
-
Your cockpit interior and frame are very nicely done! Love the rigging, too. I see how much work is involved since I've just closed mine up. Great job indeed.
Cheers,
Gary
-
Thank you everyone. Indeed this interior is quite complex as in many British aircraft, lots of rigging. But in this case it cannot stand as a stand alone model, as you see the outer sides of the truss are without paint. Though I suppose that the fit limits are not so tight here as on many other WNW kits.
-
Work on RAF4a engine on the way. The engine block assembled, some joints will have to be filled. But the most tedious is cleaning of the seams on 12 cylinders - the cooling ribs are quite thick luckily, so some sanding with waterpaper is doable and helps to hide the seam lines.

Some more work...
Fuselage enclosed, engine bulk painted and assembled. I plan to add the missing electric leads and the valve pushrods. Holes in the block are drilled for the latter. Also the air scoop requires some touch ups - the thickness of the plates requires serious thinning. It is also necessary to thin the lower section thereof to have more ease while running the push rods through the holes. It will still be tricky to manipulate the rods through those holes into the ones drilled at the cylinders bases... We will see...

That looks really nice as it always does. I love the Re8 and am planning to do them as well in the not so distant future.

You are making great work of your Harry Tate. It's one of my favorite planes of the era. I like your custom engine stand too. I'll have to do that next time.
-
No reports for some time did not mean I was not working on this model. Actually I was quite busy with tedious and not too spectacular tasks.
I have prepared all the elements for airbrushing - cleaning the seam lines, polishing, doing some pre-assembly.
The lower wings are joined with the fuselage.
The joints on the fuselage still require some filling and sanding (too good a magnifying glass, perhaps?)
I have armed all the control horns with the turnbuckles and/or eyelets.
Also the eyelets at the rigging lines stations were being installed. While doing it, I was so glad and eased with the recent delivery from Bob Booth (actually, the prize for GB) that I forgot how many lines and eyelets are necessary for a British a/c model! And I have just run out of them. The new order has just been placed but I have to wait a couple of days for delivery.
Also, the reinforcing wires for control surfaces hinges are added.

Hi Prze,
Many thanks for your order ;)
I will get them out of the door and in the post to you tomorrow.
I'm liking your progress so far :) Looking forward to seeing more from this build.
Cheers,

Finally, I have decided that the progress of the recent days was worthy taking my camera out of the box.
The engine RAF4 is almost ready (but for the carburettors)
The bulk airbrushing and shading - complete.

Your build is coming along very well - I'm so impressed with the work you've done. I really like your paintwork very much. My worry about getting the exhausts to line up with the top wing attachments had me leave off the pipes until my top wing was glued in place...which is where I'm at right now. Looking forward to your further updates!
Cheers,
Gary

Gary, the exhausts are just posing for the photos. I took the same decision as you and will attach them for good only after the upper wing is on, when it will be possible to use the braces to ensure the verticality of the pipes :-)

Spectacular work, as always, Przemo! I love the subtle shading and the colors you're chosen. Coincidentally, I'm working on the Aeroclub 1/48 RE8. Mine is a dog, by comparison.

Wonderful work as always.

Top notch as always Przemek - hope to see it in Bytom as well as your Gotha ;)

Hi Prze, i'm always struggleling with the metal strut ends. what's your method to get these sharp results?
-
Very impressive Prze - lovely work indeed.
Cheers,
Gary
-
Some really clean neat and beautiful work going on, Przemo, I'm really enjoying this build! Great inspiration! Regards, Marc
-
Really pretty and impressive.
Andreas
-
Thank you all.
Janh, I struggle with fittings on the struts, too. One of most unpleasant parts in modelling. My method is the thin brush 00 and lots of patience.
Filip, it is indeed my plan to take this model to Bytom and possibly some other contests next year.
-
Beautiful work in every detail.
Ciao

Shading, wash, varnish complete. The assembly has begun with the undercarriage and stabilisers.

Great work, Przemol. Nice detail painting.

Slowly heading on to the end. The tail is rigged, some wing cellule cables attached, the struts glued to the lower wing or the fuselage and the upper wing just put on to keep the geometry.

Looking very good! It's interesting to see how the sequence of our builds differ (I'm constantly trying to guess what should be done next to avoid breaking small bits, aligning everything correctly, rigging etc!) Great work, Prze!

I am thinking of it, too. For instance I still have not attached the aerial at the bottom, as it is easily breakable when holding the fuselage. And thanks for your kind words.
-
Really taking shape now! Your usual Fantastic work!!
RAGIII
-
First rate job! Really inspiring to look at!
I really like the painting and was wondering what colour(s) you've used for the green, which I suppose is PC10?
/Fredrik
-
Many thanks, gentlemen.
Fredrik, yes it is supposed to be PC10. I must confess that I usually take the question of this colour very lightly. Here I have used Vallejo Air colour 71.286 IJA Verde Oliva.
And a few more steps taken. The upper wing on, centre and main wing bays rigged. The exhaust stacks in place with bracing. The gunners sting in place. The propeller, too. The kingposts glued, the glue will set quietly till tomorrow before I will tackle the last bit, i.e. the rigging of the wing cantilevers and the aileron controls. And yes, Gary, now I have finally attached the aerial to the fuselage bottom as I do not plan to turn the model upside down anymore.
The end is not far away.
