Here's my latest completed model. I finished her for a group build on another site just before starting the Rumpler. Very nice kit with excellent decals, although the fuselage roundels were too large and the blue was too dark, so I replaced them with spares from an Eduard Pup. This is the bus used by Flt. Cmdr. Reginald Bone on March 19, 1916, to force down a Friedrichshafen FF33. It had been delivered to the RNAS in French markings, which were retained and British roundels and serials added to the sides, hence the French cockades on the wings. Also, at some point (before reaching the RNAS, I assume), half of the top wing was either replaced or repainted. I'm trying to explain myself here so as not to be accused of gross carelessness in my decal application, although I'm fairly certain that someone will ask me about it later on. ???

Very nice Bud, you're on quite the Nieuport kick of late aren't you?

Beautiful shading, Bud. I really like this one. Thanks for sharing.

Lovely workmanship, Bud -
Your Nieuport models always come out looking great.

Really nice. The finish looks perfect. How did the kit build? Any construction issues?
-
Very nice. Love the combination of French and British roundels.

Very nice indeed, Bud. Not a 'plane I am too familiar with but the finish is excellent!
-
Very nicely done Bud, the overall finish is excellent with lovely shading and great rigging, congratulations on completing another show piece.

From my point of view you have estabilished a state of art for your models and this isn`t an exception. The CDL is convincing and the overall looks of the Ni 10 is great. Do you think it would take a lot of work to make the two seater version of this plane?

She's a real beauty Bud! What paint did you use for the main colour? It's an eye-catching shade.

Chris

Many thanks, guys!

Chris, I used Model Master Modern Desert Sand. I like this shade for most medium cdl applications. For lighter cdl, I like to use Mister Color Sail. For darker cdl, I use Sail mixed with Radome Tan.
Do you think it would take a lot of work to make the two seater version of this plane?
Filip, the wing and fuselage dimensions are the same, according to the Datafile, so I don't think it would be a problem. In fact, most single seat 10's were converted 2 seaters. The Special Hobby instruction sheet shows parts not included in this kit. Those parts are for a 2 seater, so hopefully SH will be doing one soon. Omega also has a couple different 1/48 scale 2 seaters that are quite nice, although they are resin. I love resin kits, but many people don't.
How did the kit build? Any construction issues?
Rob, I didn't encounter any real issues at all. I replaced the kit seat with a pe seat and added a few bits and bobs, but otherwise it went together easily. It was a joy to build. Here's the build log, it you'd like to take a peek:

Thanks, Scott! Flaws abound, but I just write those off to advancing age.

Bud:
Your Nieuports are simply beautiful! You have really captured the spirit of these machines. I love the CDL with brown outlining---very sharp! You've inspired me to move some Nieuports up my 1/32 build list. ;) Great work!

Bob

What a beautiful model, Bud. Congratulations!
Watching it, I admire the additional work they have done at Nieuport plant to this rather cumbersome craft to yield such a beauty as Ni11 and its derivatives.
-
Thanks so much, Prez! It's quite clear why, after the 10, they called the 11 "Bebe".

Quite a difference is size, no?

Lovely work Bud. She looks excellent, nicely turned out. The comparison shots with the 11 are interesting ;)
Andrew

Thanks, Andrew. I find the size comparison interesting, too. I had no idea the 10 was so much larger until this project.

Same barn but definitely different stall!! Nice couple of birds!!
Steve

Thanks for the comparison shots Bud. I had never really focused on the size difference between the 10 and 11. Very interesting.
-
Bud you churn them out at a rate of knots and you're not afraid to steer clear of the shake and bake models either and every one is a gem.
Excellent work as usual, the WWI scene is blessed with some excellent modellers.
-
Thanks for the kind comments, guys. They are deeply appreciated.
Gary, I actually need an occasional shake'n'bake, like Eduard's Nieuports, to maintain my sanity. So far, it's not working.
Cheers,
Bud

Bud,
A real beauty in all respects, Choice of scheme, overall finish, weathering, rib effect, rigging etc!

Beautiful work Bud. You're really on a Noop kick of late aren't you?
Warren

Thanks, Warren! I am on a bit of a Nieuport binge. While my current build is a Rumpler C.I for the 2 seater GB, I've got a Nie.17bis next in line.
Cheers,
Bud

[still catching up] really lovely Bud, the mixed markings are especially appealing.
-
Thanks, Bo (Tony)! The mixed markings are the main reason I chose this scheme, although an explanation is required for the uninitiated. I took her to a local model show and a friend of mine overheard a judge commenting that "this guy must've botched the
markings". My friend explained it to him, but I don't think he believed him.
Cheers,
Bud
