Title: The Vintage Aviator Ltd's Remembrance Day airshow 10-Nov-2012
Post by: Jamo on November 11, 2012, 05:51:54 AM
It was a brilliant afternoon out at Hood Aerodrome yesterday, a bit breezy but very sunny. All the Vintage Aviator's aircraft had an outing although the wind was a bit gusty for the Pups to fly. There were five new aircraft making the first public debut: two Sopwith Pups (RFC & RNAS versions) both with Le Rhone 80hp rotary engines, the second FE2b finished in night bomber markings as 'Jess' (fitted with an original 160hp Beardmore engine), TVAL's fourth Albatros DVa finished in the markings of Fritz Rumet's african head/checkerboard markings (new build Mercedes engine !!!) and a second RE8 (with a new build RAF4a engine). The airshow was a feat of organisation and flying. There were planes starting up, landing and flying pretty much constantly for 2 and a half hours. Here are some highlights from the day:

Congratulations to all the talented people at The Vintage Aviator who make this happen, and to the pilots who put on a great show. Thanks very much!

He sure was! I was volunteered to drive the 1914 Fiat truck just visible on the other side of the staff car. A fun way to spend a couple of hours leading up to the show starting. He and his mate loaned me a German greatcoat and hat so I looked the part. It was way too bloody hot for the coat, especially as the Fiat doesn't have a self-starter so I was having to crank start it each time I picked up a new load of passengers.
And if that wasn't enough fun, I got a ride in the other (older) FE2 on Friday evening! A great weekend!

I just added a few shots of the Biff to the album. Shows the staining from fuel and oil quite well
