Title: Wingnutwings L.V.G. C.VI
Post by: gbrivio on February 04, 2019, 07:24:47 AM
Hallo everybody, this was waiting for me to tidy up my attic, and probably is still beyond my skills but I think it's a build Des had encouraged do start and to complete. So this is intended to be my tribute. My choosen version is marking G in the original issue, I missed and bought the duelists set as soon as it was available, with the original decal sheet, HGW detail sets and REXX exhaust. I wish all of you enjoyment and good luck.
Ciao
Giuseppe

Hallo everybody, finally started my build. Some parts cleanup, modified the panel between the cockpit stations and painted the interior woods. Instrument panel will be modified. I primed flying surfaces and when dry will try to apply lozenges decals. Having to be covered with winter camouflage I will try to use WNW decals, while aware of the issues reported on the forum. If unsuccessful I will sacrifice a set of Aviattic lozenges.
To the next update.

Little work on instrument panel, started erecting cockpit and lozenges decals applied. The upper wing face has logenges rib tape, but this will probably changed with linen as on the lower face. I experienced the same troubles already reported in the forum with WNW decals, even using the suggested technique, edge tape is still missing. Now I'm going to paint inner components to assemble cockpit and engine bay, and apply varnish to the wings.

Looking really good Giuseppe. You are much more organised than me working on different elements of the model simultaneously. I tend to go in order otherwise I lose control...

I had no problems with the decals on my LVG but have experienced two so far - complete disintegration - on the DFW.

Cheers

Thank you Rick and Alistair, I didn't find bad decals but just less forgiving then Aviattic: they need to be processed exactly as suggested by WNW to avoid troubles and they don't like to be repositioned by sliding. But now I need to make tests for winter overpaintig and the complex pattern.

I must say that the sheer amount of started projects in this GB is overtaxing me a little bit. This is the only reason I didn’t comment on this very nice and clean build yet. The wood tones are as beautiful as the Tarnstoff treatment on the wings.

I'm sorry it's a long time without updates, I'm really too slow. I had to remove the lozenge decals when first tried to apply winter camouflage, the new are from Aviattic, five colours and I overdid  preshading a little in view of the white overpainting next.

Then applied the winter livery, trying to follow the reference photographs in the WNW website. On second thought it was better to do this with enamels to make corrections easyer over acryl paint... The pattern was touched randomly with alchool to produce a worn look.

Very little was done to the interiors (also damaged the central bulkhead), painted the seat and test fitted to the fuel tank.

Hi,

Don't know If you can remove the paint but, when I built this kit I used Toothpaste to dab on the wing with a sponge and then sprayed it very thin with Tamiya white paint. When dry hold it under warm water and then with a soft brush rub the paint off. Make sure to seal the decals first with future or a other clear coat.
