Hi Folks,
I haven't been modelling much lately. This is my first attempt in over a year. Of course one must start with the cockpit, so here it is, right before I close her up:
-
Lookin' good! Good to hear that you're returning to the fold after a long absence.
Cheers,
Chris

You're off to a great start, Mario. The cockpit looks fantastic. It's great to see you jumping right into a build on your third post.
Cheers,

Mario,
Excellent beginnings my friend. Great little kit too,but a word of caution on her PE parts. They're tough to bend and somewhat more difficult to work with than the regular PE brass. If I remember correctly they're made from nickel. Looking forward to your next update.

Gregory,
Not only that, but they are very small and my eyes are old! My eyesight is one of the reasons I don't model much anymore. I should really tackle the larger 1/32 models, but this Dragon model had been around too long and there's very little rigging to do.
I have an older Glenn Torrance Fokker D.VIII 1/4 scale R/C model that will get built next year.

Nice start, the cockpit is looking good. :D

Mario,
Very nice start. I did this kit about 10 years back and enjoyed the experience. In retospect I wish I had scratch built the struts, the PE ones just don't look great from some aspects and my efforts to add 3D with white glue didn't really come off very well. (I removed it) The nickel PE is a bear as well but it does build up into a pretty nice model. Welcome back, and from another member with older eyes, don't sweat it, just enjoy! ;)
Cheers,
Lance

Hi Lance,
I'm just starting on the PE struts and yes, they do seem out of scale. But WTH, I'm doing this for fun!
-
Oh yeah, the struts are too thin but act like sprung steel!! At least theres no worries about the fairly stout wing bending them!!

Beautiful work on the cockpit Mario, the seat colour looks great. Looking forward to seeing your next up dates.
My old eyes and hands are what restricts me to 1:32 scale only, my hat goes off to all those who work in the smaller scales.

I'll post in a few days. I'm a slow builder!

Help! The kit lozenge decals were so old that they tore up as I went to apply them. Where can I buy correct lozenge decals for this Fokker? Thanks.
-
I have kit spares if you want them but the colours are not too accurate anyway. Theres the Aeromaster sheet too.

Thanks Steve. I went on Squadron's site and found Techmod's 4 color lozenge. I believe that's what is more accurate than the kit's decals.
-
Nice start. Your cockpit looks excellent!

Mario.
How's your lovely Fokker progressing my friend?

I'm waiting on the lozenge decals I ordered. Most sub assemblies have been painted. Will post shortly.
-
Mario,
Thanks for the update my friend. Looking forward to what's next.

Finished applying the lozenge camo decals. Tougher than I thought. The color in the photo is a bit too vivid.
-
Mario,
Outstanding decal work on your lozenge my friend. I agree the color is a bit vidid but none the less well done. I wonder if your photograph your work in natural light if your colors would be truer to life though. What brand of Lozenge did you use?Looking forward to seeing what's next.

Gregory Jouette
HAPPY NEW YEAR to You and Yours

Gregory,
Decals are Techmod bought from Squadron. The settings on my camera are set to Vivid and the Saturation has been pushed to the max. I believe that's why the colors aren't truer. Also, the size of the original jpg was huge, I downsized it through a web image resizer. Not really happy with those results. Any suggestions so I don't push the file limit size?

There are a million ways to do this. Depends a bit I suppose on what you are using for an image host. I settled on Photobucket because I like their mobile software better than Picasa or Fickr; your mileage may differ. I am pretty happy with the conversion performed by the iPhoto > Photobucket plugin (Mac). Uploads and squishes in one step. Same goes for the Photobucket iPad app, which I use as well, depending on what I am doing at the moment... Somebody else may advise on what to use with other platforms...
