Title: 1/72 Fokker Dr.1 (spinning prop update - take 2)
Post by: Gisbod on December 27, 2018, 02:00:00 AM
Hi,

I’ve finished the 1/72 Eduard Fokker Dr.1 - phase 1 at least; part of a master plan to encase it in flight, in resin!

Build thread here:

https://forum.ww1aircraftmodels.com/index.php?topic=10016.0

The ‘spinning’ prop, streamers & scarf will be added just before entombment...

Thanks for following along  ;)

Amazing! You worked on this for what, a week  ;D I am glad you took the photos and certainly hope phase 2 goes well. Otherwise you will have a blob of distorted plastic and paint instead of this Nicely Done DR1  8)

Thanks Rick  :) hope you had a nice Christmas...

Yes, that’s the (probable) reality!

I’ve just bought Eduard’s 1/72 Dual Combo Nieuport 17 - so I can make one (nicely) and bung the other one together to experiment with...

Ps I’m signed off flying at the moment (nothing serious) and I seem to be racing through kits!

Even in this small scale this model seems to be a Dr.I - mission accomplished!
In a time, I would need to unpack the kit :o

Wait now for the completed project :-*

Frank

Same here, but then I have a special attraction to Dr.1s regardless of scale!

Sooo,

It’s taken me quite a long time to research the resin - I’ve finally tracked down what I need to complete the project and will hopefully be casting this week or so.

I’ve made a stab at the spinning prop... it looks quite good when you’re just looking at the model overall, but i admit that it looks a bit cartoonish if you look at the close ups  ::) (but then it is 1/72...)

Do you reckon that’s ok?

I might still experiment with just a clear plastic version? Like Prze’s post in the build log. What do you think? I’m completely open to options...

On reflection, I didn’t like the last prop in the close up photos...

I’ve had another go...

Guy,
I like the second attempt far better. I believe a clear disk with an "almost clear" prop on it would be the optimum portrayal although I don't know if the clear disk would show once in resin? Bottom line though, looking like one heck of a fine paper weight!

Lance

Thanks for the feedback!

Yes, the first one looks like it was done by a 5 year old!  ???

I’m still experimenting.. stand by for updates.

The second version seems to be better, but it's hard to say with macros.
Could you please add a picture with more distance, so the whole airplane is visible? Gives may be better impression ...

Cheers,
Frank

Will do Frank, but I’ve just applied some resin to the interior so need that to cure first. I’ve posted my 3rd attempt on the under construction section ‘Flying Fokker’...

The DrI is kind of hard, but I prefer to leave most of the prop off entirely, but on the DrI there's that spinning engine, which does get kind of masked this way. I'd leave the prop off and just airbrush it, along with a bit of spinning engine?
