Title: COMPLETED 1:48 Eduard Albatros D.Va Karl Hopf
Post by: Iancshippee on February 18, 2019, 11:16:10 PM
One of my entries for this group build will be this Eduard Albatros D.V, done up as a D.Va in the colors of Karl Hopf using LifeLike Decals. I've built an Eduard Albatros before with good luck, hope it carries through to this build!

Thank you! Finally off and running on this build, in a very unusual situation for myself, I have 6 seperate builds going on at the same time and just finished 2 others, a 1:48 DC-3 and a 1:48 Bleriot XI. But enough about that! This is my second time building an Eduard Albatros, and my previous one came from the Mailed Gauntlet boxing from the early-mid 1990's. I'm very impressed how much cleaner the mouldings are now!

Made a small start with the pilot's seat and the engine, satisfied with both bit I think I need to do some painting before I go any further. thanks for looking!

Hello all, don’t want you thinking i’ve Fallen off the face of the earth! I suffered an unfortunate back injury, and that set my projects back quite a bit. I decided to focus on completing the Albatros and holding off on the Pup, and I very nearly have it complete. I will hopefully get some progress pictures up today and then complete the rigging this evening, as that is all that remains.

Here we go! Structurally, the kit is complete. all that remains is to rig. I was extremely impressed with the improvements Eduard has made on this Albatros since the mid-nineties. I built the "Mailed Gauntlet" version of this that was moulded in 1995, and it was a much coarser kit then. this moulding was from 2010. first, a much better cockpit!

Fuselage halves went together very cleanly, as well. The Lifelike decals went on easily, but were a challenge to seat. fortunately they were robust enough to be slid around somewhat.

The top win went on more easily than I remembered from the previous build, but it may be due to my mounting the interplane struts on the top wing first and letting them cure. The landing gear, however, remained as challenging as my previous attempt.

once the landing gear cured, it was time to wrap up the details! looking forward to rigging it later.

Thanks! I finished rigging last night, will get some pictures this afternoon after some paint and decal touch-ups. Down to the wire, or should I say E-Z Line!

Thanks everyone! It’s thanks to Des and this forum that I became brave enough to try rigging models in the first place. He built a marvelous community here!
