Macchi M.5 in 1/144
« on: September 21, 2023, 12:21:35 AM »
Hi all. It's been a while since I've had a finished build to share, so I hoped to show you the latest one; this is my Nieuport-Macchi M.5 in the markings of Tenente di Vascello Alberto Bortolozzo from Squadriglia 260a, based at Saint Andrea Seaplane Station during 1918.
The model is 1/144 scale and based on the 3D printed kit produced by V1Models from Japan. It utilises the fuselage and engine nacelle, with the surface details sanded back and replaced with finer ones. The floats, struts, tail, beaching gear & decals etc. are all from scratch. The wood grain finish is artist oils over a base coat of Gunze 'Sail Color", and the rigging is from 0.05mm nichrome wire

Cheers!

Another jaw-dropping model William.

This is not "just" modeling, this is art!

Hats off for you sir.

I completely agree with Willem and Nigel: this is astounding. I plan to scratch build one of these one day, but in a more practical God's Own Scale. I need a magnifying glass just to look at and appreciate what you have done!

I too take my hat off to you - you are indeed a master modeller and artist.

Stephen.

Probably against site policy to print what I said when I first saw this... but it was followed by "amazing" and "incredible!"...  In any scale that would be a fantastic build... but in 1/144!... I can't ....... believe it!... Oops, there I go again.
Also a compliment to your photography, it's very clear and shows all the fine details I have no idea how you accomplished!
Way cool!!!

Staggering, this would be complicated and delicate in 1/32 scale! It really is another masterpiece you are sharing with us.

Bravissimo... all I can do is echo what everyone else has already said.

But, oddly, aside from the stunning workmanship, the thing that really bowled me over was that you got an original Great War-vintage matchbox and 20 centisimi piece to display with it... just the way my mind works, I guess :-/

breathtaking, terrific, out of this world!
Have to look for this nichrome wire.
