I too 'love' finding more things to sand once the paint is on.
It's one of the true joys of my life!  ::) A lot of it is honestly down to me rushing this build. Having taken a day or two to work on the wingtips and fuselage uppers has reminded me of how important parts prep is on a kit like this - the last few kits I've done have been New Airfix and the like so this was a delayed shock to the system. Not at all an indictment on Roden's kit but of my own enthusiasm to "git 'er done".

I have to be honest and admit that with our ongoing (no positive tests or symptoms by March 28 = we're good) COVID scare I simply haven't felt up to working at The Bench...or much else beyond reading or watching YouTube etc.

However, today that changes!

There was evidence of a mould misalignment that required a little sanding on the leading edge of the horizontal stabiliser and careful scraping of the trailing edge, and some light drilling for the mounting holes. The notches on the elevator also needed to be opened up a bit after some dryfitting. Before the vertical stab goes on I have a bit of PSR for where the hori stab meets the turtledeck.

Looks good.  I feel dumb asking...   What's PSR?

Great to see you progressing. The extra care you are using on cleaning up the mold seams on the fin and stabilizer will make a big difference.

Thanks Rick, I saw the lip during dry-fitting and over-sanded it - knowing I could make up the difference with a bit of filler (Vallejo's white plastic putty stuff).

Looks good.  I feel dumb asking...   What's PSR?

This is certainly taking shape well.

I do like the PSR - a term that is new to me but certainly one I know from experience!!!

I have not had a covid scare but I still feel as you did with regard to modelling - no mojo.

Stephen.

We've had some nasty weather lately meaning I couldn't open the hobby room windows for fear of being drenched or blown away, but I did manage a small bit of progress - the vertical stabiliser is on! It seems the storm has passed by and the sun is out so hopefully this weekend will be more productive than the last week has been.

Progress!

Unfortunately it's been slow as I don't have many of the paint colours required for the distinctive French camouflage (as you see the black is the only one applied so far!), however on Monday I start a new, better-paying job with fixed hours so in a couple of weeks I'll be able to get underway again!

Well, even a little progress is still progress Zac, I wish I could say the same.

My hands are itching, but I simply don't have the space or the time at the moment.

Luckily there is more than enough beautiful builds on this forum to enjoy myself.

Great progress Zac!

I'm looking at the Roden SPADs myself, so a useful build.

A method I use for puttying difficult areas, particularly fine gaps, or where sanding can be problematic, I use Green Stuff World Green Putty:

https://www.greenstuffworld.com/en/green-stuff/1220-green-putty.html

That putty is super fine and the best thing is that it's water based.  So you can apply it, then wipe off excess with a slightly damp sponge, cloth or cotton bud wetted with water.  I found that you can even thin it with a few drops of water and use a syringe with needle to apply carefully into gaps.  Then clean up is really minimal.  I get it to the consistency of milk (or thinner depending on application) in a small container, then pour it down a syringe with plunger off, then put the plunger back on.

Syringes (you need the ones with needles) for this purpose can easily found cheaply on eBay:

Take care,

Peter
