New tool 1/48 Eduard Siemens Schuckert DIII
« on: April 19, 2015, 02:51:59 AM »
All,

Some pictures of my completed model of Eduard's new SSW DIII kit.  This was a Christmas present from mother, so is not my usual scale

But what an excellent, well engineered little kit with excellent standard of fit.   One of the rare kits that actually goes together easily with no dramas - a refreshing change.  Assembly of top wing is worthy of special mention - it literally fell/snapped into place and took seconds to install.  It is now a very strong fit.   Decals are also superb and were a joy to apply - especially as there is a lot lozenge fabric and individual rib tape to apply!

The only (slight) issue is that the wing ribs are overly heavy and exaggerated.   I used the kit supplied PE turbuckles in combination with EZ line for rigging.  Model built entirely OOB.

Regards

Dave

Your SSW DIII looks great, Dave! I don't usually model in 1/48 but this looks like an excellent kit, and since there isn't one in 1/32, (correct me if I'm wrong, I've been wrong a lot lately :o) I may have to make an exception.

Well done, Dave! I, too, have one of these . . . not my preferred scale but the Jasta 85 scheme (black with gold crest) caught my eye on a contest table. Glad to know how it goes together and hope that mine is half as nice as yours.  :)

You have done a superb job with this kit Dave, it has ended up being a beautiful looking model in all ways, the rigging is excellent.

What a little gem you've created, Dave!  Congratulations.  I've got this one in my stash and I'm looking forward to starting it.  Your gorgeous model has pushed it closer to the front of the queue.
Cheers,

A very nice model, Dave. It looks both gaudy and purposeful at the same time.

Dave,
You have done your usual OUTSTANDING work on this one! Terrific work on the blue fuselage and applying the lozenge.

Having seen this for real I can honestly say that the photos really do this model justice. It really is a superb piece of modelling by one who is a mini-genius with the paintbrush and Klear! The lozenge is the best I have ever seen on a model. Excellent.
