Another Americal Gryphon reference booklet, this time for Gotha aircraft. So much excellent research by Dr Merrill in this booklet that came with decal sets #51 and #52, it would be a shame if this was lost to the modelling community forever, so here it is. The first few pages cover history, units & organisation, aircraft and generalised markings, and composition and duties of a Gotha crew. I am going to match up the Individual aircraft notes with the profile sketches (which were entirely separate) and post them tomorrow. Sorry they are all sized slightly differently :-[ click on images to enlarge

The Rodney Gerrard citation is unfortunate...

Yes you're right Bo, but notwithstanding that there is still much of value IMHO.
For those who are interested to know more about Rodney Gerrard have a look here:

No doubt, it's just that sorting out the malarkey from the truth gets tricky...

Thanks James. More fascinating material. And also to you and Bo for alerting me to the issue surrounding the authenticity of certain material. It was a debate I knew nothing about.
Best wishes

I really do miss A/G, our WWI modeling community sure lost a great resource when Dr. Merrill decided to close up shop, but I certainly understand and support his reasons.
FWIW, I believe there has been new research on a/c #26 "MoRoTa", no? I believe the color of the lettering is different now than the original decal sheet indicated.
I'm glad I picked up what sets I could before he closed up shop.

I think since that was written a new photo emerged which shows that the legend actually reads "MoRoTaS" -- the aS was obscured in the well known first crash photo
WNW offers two choices for the decorations' color, this is the "preferred" option:

That's it Bo, that's what I was trying to remember. Still, there were some other great options on Dr. Merrill's sheets. You definitely got your money's worth. Sometimes the printing wasn't up to what we get now (aren't' we spoiled these days?), but all in all, they were a great value.

Thanks for posting James! It is indeed a shame that the Rodney Gerard stuff has muddied the waters. The odd thing is that most of his Fake stuff was added to real reports in order to justify his fabric samples as being real. So even his Fake info had some basis. Still Dr. Merrill has to be considered as a valid and valuable reference.
