RAF BE.2c - W.L.Robinson (1/72, Airfix)
« on: August 26, 2016, 05:36:43 AM »
My vision of the famous night fighter BE.2c used by William Leefe Robinson on the night 2nd/3rd of September 1916 to shoot down a German airship and win VC.

EDIT. I have just realised that my build almost coincides with 100th anniversary of this important aerial victory!

Airfix kit had to be modified extensively and several areas brought to more to-scale look to satisfy my taste. Five months of modelling led me to this result.

Still trying to get my head round it's 1/72nd scale and the images I'm seeing on my screen are that much bigger than the actual model.
So beautiful.

Tony.

Success in the end, after a long modelling job. Well done. All ailerons are dropped, is this correct (i have no knwoledge of the BE type, sorry)?

Thank you, gentlemen. I am glad you like it.

Stefan, there is a usual gravitational drop of ailerons observed on many aircraft, BE.2c included. Airfix made the wings integrally with the ailerons and with this drop. I liked the idea and decided to leave it as it was. IMHO it gives an extra life to the model, even if it may be slightly overdone - a scale compromise.  ;)
