Hello Pete,
I deeply respect modelers who build one kit and have not more than one or two in the stash. They finish one and then buy another. Well, I think that has from time to time as much to do with limited space as with self discipline, but anyway...
I have to admit that I am none of them. When the 1:32 fever caught me I collected uncontrollably all WNW kits that I wanted (or "needed", Jeff
) and I tried to limit myself to just one version of all (I mean one Roland C. II, the early OR the late version and so on). It didn't work and meanwhile I own both versions of the Fe2b, the Rumpler, the Roland C type, three Camels, five Albatros D V(a), three Fokker D. VII, three Pups, two Se5a, and... and... and.... I even hunted the sold out kits like the Re8, the LVG or the Hannover. Could I have waited until they would be rereleased? Of course, but I couldn't (didn't want to.... ).Will I ever have the display space to show them all built up? I mean ALL, including the Gotha and the AEG ( of which I only bought the early version, what makes me proud of myself!). I don't think so...
Another strange thing: I only built one WNW kit, the Albatros B. II, yet and I have another in the queue, the Fe2. I even built more non-WNW WWI planes than WNW kits, one Roden, one Special Hobby and another Special Hobby in the making. That has nothing to do with safing the better WNW kits, as I like a Roden or SH kit as much as a WNW kit.
And I didn't tell of my old 1:72 collection (luckily I was able to sell much of it) and all my 1:48 kits in the stash. Besides of that I have many WWI 1:35 tanks, guns or cars, not to speak of all the figures for conversions...
I know I have so many kits that I won't be able to build them in my lifetime. That doesn't make any sense, many people call it insane.
But does this affect me? NO, why? It's a hobby, it gives you time to relax, time to be yourself. If I would start to stress me ("OMG, I have so many kits, I must build one every month!" - "oh, I can't buy that pretty kit before I know when to build and where to display it...!") it would be half the fun. Life is too short for sober logic!
