1/48 Roden Junkers DI
« on: March 31, 2024, 08:28:19 PM »
Dear all,

A nice straightforward model after my Albatros OAW.

Roden's 48th scale Junkers DI early long fuselage variant which is a really great kit slightly let down by some vague instructions and poor quality decals.

Nothing special - built mostly OOB with some minor detailing in cockpit.  The kit rudder features a fixing strut/peg that is very flimsy so replaced that with a bit of metal wire which is much stronger now.

Regards

Looks great!  Did you use the Roden decals on the wings?  I have heard about decal issues with some Roden kits and figured it would be very difficult to get fussy decals to lay down on corrugated wings.

Very nice. And you also prove that Roden kits still build to very fine models.

Thanks, mate - I used the kit decals for the rudder and wing underside but gave up on them after that - they all broke apart as soon they touched water ......

The ones on the fuselage and upper wing were sourced from my spares box.

Thank you kindly Nigel and Prez!

I was never a big fan of the Junkers types, but my son Curt is really into them and I've gained a new appreciation of them through him. This build just reinforced it... love that color scheme.

That looks super Dave - can't wait to see it for real. Shame about the rudder fixing and transfers, but as Prez has written, you have proved that Roden's kits build into very fine models.

Excellent DI Dave.
Any pitfalls we need to know with this kit?

Cheers,
Bob

Thank you kindly, Bob -

No, the kit itself builds fine although the instructions are very vague as to where all the cockpit framing sits.    Also, the decals were terrible and broke apart on touching water.   I think this was an older kit as the more recent ones I have have decals that are absolutely fine.
