A couple of not so great photos showing where I am now. All of the cowl pieces are attached as well as the Vickers. I also drilled out all of the rigging holes. Only broke 5 bits during the process  ::)  Some touch up painting was done after the photos, in particular the left wing root and adjoining fuselage. I have taped off the upper surfaces this morning in order to spray the unders CDL. Better photos later...I hope.

Rick, very nice work. It's really beginning to look the part, I'd say. I've got your thread bookmarked against the time when I start my Dolphin. Keep up the excellent work!  8)

Cheers!

Very nice looking Rick.  I like the bit of fabric behind the seat.

I have been working on the Dolphin in the last couple of days. The undersurface colors have been added and a slight turnaround of PC 10 using Tamiya Tape for Curves.  I will post photos later.

A question: The Osprey book shows the Interplane struts as wood and the Pheon Decals Battleship Grey. Now I trust Rowans research so will most likely go with the grey but thought it couldn't hurt to ask  8)

Rick,
The Cross and Cockade Dolphin book has numerous references to "tubular steel' cabane struts on the production version but I couldn't find a definite statement on the interplane main struts. It also mentions that the wood (ash) undercarriage struts on the early prototypes were replaced by tubular steel on the production versions.
The section on the restoration of C3988 however illustrates new carved ash wing struts used in the project. I'd say they were wood as shown in the book and often painted in that common "Battleship Grey" we see on other Bristish aircraft of the period.
    Hope this helps.
Cheers,
Lance

Thanks for taking the time to look Lance. I think I will go with the Battleship Grey unless other info is provided soon.

The Latest on the Dolphin. I have started applying the Pheon Decals and have done an Oil Dot weathering technique to the wings. Not really visible in the photos but the effect gives some texture and variance in colors.
