Title: Morane-Saulnier L type//Eduard//1:48
Post by: KrzysiekK on January 24, 2017, 07:05:28 PM
Hello,
Base on great threads done by xan and Edo I would like to start mine adventure with MS parasol type.
Sorry for not showing the inbox pics but I have already separated parts from the sprues, which I fact are rather the smaller parts of all kit. As the intention of manufacturer was to provide the “multimedia” kit, the bulk of it constitutes PE parts.
Have started with cockpit part adding some styrene bar, which should be visible after assembly. The rigging of frame was switched to the fishing line, which is not tightened at this step.  I have also tried to fit PE frame into the cockpit part and it seems to be properly measured.

Yes!!! More French planes! I cannot wait to see that one finished and I'll follow closely.
Very promising start on these complex PE parts!

Nice to see another model being made of this venerable kit ,(and Aircraft). You have made a great start! I like your idea of replacing the PE wires with monofilament. It will look much better when tightened than the PE.

Is it my imagination or are there more 1/48 and 1/72 scale builds these days?
Lovely start so far. The interior looks very neat especially with mono being used rather than PE.

I love the MS L but I was always slightly afraid of that kit ;) Maybe you can give me some courage to start one. Adding some styrene to the PE bits is a very good idea. You can count me as a part of the audience ;)

Hey K!
Very well done! My effort was due to the fact that I don't like working with PE, and actually I completely screw up so I had to find somethig different, but you di da wonderful job, neat and clean.
I am eager to see how it will unfold!

Xan - thanks for photos as I am going to do same 356 as you did :)
Indeed not an easy kit due to huge amount of PE small parts but after SPAD 7 I will handle :) I will try to keep up with new updates but have to finish PZL P.8 first, which drew my attention from WW1 aeroplanes (just for a while :)

ok, the interior is almost done. Last picture shows the work done just before the final closure.
Base on Filip’s suggestion I switched the second cushion to more like visible on Windsock data:)

Hello,
Being lost in 30’s last century with PZL P.8 project I am getting back to MS parasol type
Undercarriage. It is done as PE part in little thicker manner but still too thin as for me. So decided to put the epoxy on it and use some sandy paper afterwards
Very bottom – initial part, at the top & next pic final version

not much done but good news is that painting had started

then the hardest part how to resemble in scale those thin black stripes on the humb. Decals: No. as will not be possible to implement stripes of hair width. Paint: not possible to adjust the tape to leave the space just in the middle with repeatable, fixed width. Marker/pencil could be..

Can't offer any idea on the stripes, but the shading and colours look great!

On second thought, I did do the blue trailing edge rib tapes on my 1/72 Fokker DVII and Albatros DVa with mixed oil paints, as they allowed time to make repairs or tidy up incorrect areas. They're not nearly as prominent, though...

You can buy one sheet of decal paper then paint it black. Then ca glue 2 exacto blades together at the spine. Make a handle from wood dowel cut a notch for blades and tape in place with electrical tape. Then use a metal ruler and put the black decal paper on cardboard. The blades cutting surface will be .5mm apart or maybe a touch less. I used this method before.

Wonderful work. I'd love to see the box art to sense the outcome.

For stripes - not sure what you are making with them - Woodland Scenics - railroad modelling stuff and easily available - do striped decal sheets down to 0.25 mm - in black, red, yellow and white. They are dry decals so you have to rub them on. I used them on my Weddell Williams racer and got all around the curves and along the straights by using wee bits of them at a time. A very long process and exasperating at times! but it worked. I could never do that with a pen or any other tool that I can think of. The black lines in 0.25 mm look perfect now once they are all sealed into the paintwork with a clear overspray. When I redo the Gee Bee R1...one day...I'll be using the 0.25 mm red stripes between yellow and black surfaces. Given the curves, it'll be a lot harder but it can be done!

Hope that helps.

Alistair

Hi,
Xan: I will represent no. 356
Well, pls see on pic below that black stripes are really thin…
(http://rebe83.waw.pl/pub/krzysiek/warsztat/MStypL/humbstripes.png)
Woodland Scenics..will check it, in the meantime I tried to do it by soft pencil. Obviously softer pencil, blacker line we get. I am keen to leave it as it is. Once varnished they should stay firm
Have to decide then

here another pic who shows the black stripe in a Type N (same thing)

in my parasol, I used black tape

i cutted regular stripes with a plotter and fix them; in the plane it was wooden tripes , so with the tape stripe you can represent the relief...
