I think they modeled the kit spinner from a Albatros in NZ. I'm not sure the provenance of the Albatros, but it does have that same ugly spinner.
The kit spinner is not only too pointy but too narrow. Looking at period photos, there is just enough space between the perimeter of the spinner and the metal cowl plates for a whiff of air to get through. It might mean thinning the fuselage panels immediately behind the spinner.
But it's a focal point of every aircraft. So, it has to be right.
