Hi all,
Well I've used the ‘Quinta Studios’ 3D printed Albatros D.I set (QD32076).
It took a long time for the set to arrive in the UK from Russia (via Poland).
By then I'd already closed up the fuselage and therefore I only used the Part 1 sheet, which had the external details.
I did not used the four strips intended for the top surface of the lower wings (at the wing roots) as they were way too thick.
Instead I used painted photo-etch strips.
The details are easily released from the decal backing paper and the dried using paper towel.
Due their material, they are very flexible and stronger than decals.
Each was fixed to the model surface using PVA adhesive and any edges that could lift were bonded with a drop of thin CA adhesive.
I brush painted the details to blend them with the surrounding areas, so airbrushing them shouldn't be a problem.
The range of detail is less for WW1 aircraft and so I think these sets are probably more suited to vehicles and modern aircraft cockpits etc.
Whether, after application, these are that much better than the surface detail of the more up-market kits is debatable/
Certainly kits from the lower end of the market would benefit from using these sets.
At the end of the day it's up to the modelers personal preference,
Mike
