Well, I guess that I'll call this one done. A few things not quite right, but I'll move on for now. It was a learning experience as well as quite a bit of fun. Once again, thanks so much for the kind words & encouragement along the way!

I can't find anything "not quite right", Steve. She's absolutely stunning! Super craftsmanship all 'round.
Cheers,
Bud
-
As Bud said, I don't know what's not quite right, but I think it's gorgeous.

I don't have the right words to say how much I like this little gem. It's just absolutely PERFECT.
Chapeau!
Manni

My deepest respect from a former 1/72 builder. You did an outstanding job here, congratulations!
Borsos

All aspects of this build are superb, the resulting model is a work of art, absolutely brilliant.

Don't often look at 1/72 Steve as it's not my thing but this is exceptional- looks like 1/32 and that is a very hard thing to achieve!
I'm half tempted....
Guy
-
Such a stunning build and great workmanship. It could easily be 1/32 such is the attention to detail you've achieved
-
Steve, your model is one of the finest 1/72 scale renditions I have had the please to observe.
Absolutely Exquisite ! :)
-
Outstanding. I still cannot believe that this masterpiece is in 1/72.
-
Steve,
Like everyone else I can't get my mind around the fact that this is 1:72 Scale! The detail, quality of finish and overall impact of this Model are striking, congratulations on a truly beautiful Build. This is a real tribute to your skills and I look forward to seeing more of your work.
Cheers,
Lance

damn nice looking albatros steve you should be very proud.
-
Just beautiful. One of the best Albatros models I have seen, not only in 72nd scale. Detailing, wood, staining, finish, all top class. Great to see it and I hope for more of your models to come soon.
-
Amazing, one of the best I've seen.
Regards, Steve
-
What can I add? Certainly I had to check the scale that this is not 1/32. I do not think I have seen an Albatros (or many other 1/72 scale models) that could hold a candle to this. Fantastic and many congratulations.
Stephen.

Thank you all so much! I could easily point out the "not quite right" things, & you'll see some if you look long enough. ;) But, I'm my own worse critic & I'm sure that many of you can relate. Thanks again to all who helped along the way with answers to my questions. Also, thanks to all who post progress photos & share your techniques, I have learned quite a bit from them.
I like to photograph models against a dark background, but for the shots of this one completed, it just didn't work. Too much in the shadows, but I like this one a bit.

Now, I guess I need to learn how to make a realistic base for some outdoor photos.

A really lovely result, Steve! A great model with fine detail and quite beautiful colours... I like it very much! Regards, Marc
-
That really is one of the best Albatroses I've ever seen, in any scale. The fact it's 1:72 is astonishing.

I missed this early . Beautiful job Steve 8)

Very beautiful work! You've inspired me to buy this kit. I only hope to do as nice a job as you have.
George

High up there with the best of them - A beautiful build! Well done!!!!!

-
The best albatros in 1/72 I have ever seen, congratulations on this marvel!
-
A truly informative and awesome build to follow! Your Albatros is one of the best I have seen. Like I said during your build, it holds up well to many larger scale builds in both details and painting.

Very slick!!
Steve

Once again, I must say that I am truly overwhelmed by your kind words!!
Thank you!
Steve

Steve,
As a result of this I'm getting the Eduard Spad XIII in 1/48 & 1/72. With the dearth of Wingnuts kits it's about time I made a WW1 kit again and you've inspired me to try!
Although I'll probably be cursing you when I'm trying to rig them!
Guy
Ps a 1/72 group build would be a challenge!
-
Wow! Absolute amazing work. I am in deep awe! You raised the bar to a level that is hard to reach.
I have also been to your built log and still speechless.
-
Bloody marvellous! My eye's refuse to see any fault's with this one!
-
It is probabely boring when everybody is saying the same. But I cannot but join in: What a fantastic build, a great little model and hard to believe that it's 1/72. Really a masterpiece!
Borsos

Thanks again!
I promise, this is the last photo!

Keep posting. One question, how did you get a 3 foot long hand to hold your model. LOL. Beautiful job on your 72nd kit.
-
I know it's been a while since this one was completed, but just thought I would comment - wow! A fantastic build and a wonderful finish, especially the wood work. Bravo!
BC
-
That is gorgeous! There is something very gemlike about a 1/72 biplane, when done right. This on is done VERY right!
-
Great wood technique and a real eye-catcher. Rigging is convincingly thin befitting the scale.
Cheers
Syd
-
Excellent work in 1/72 'til you showed the pic of it on your hand, had a bit of disbelief - looks larger !!
Ed

Thanks, guys!
Brad, I studied many of your builds to try & figure out how you did things
Unfortunately, I hit a roadblock (both structural & mental) on the next project I worked on: Roden Albatros D.III OEF. Those dreaded cabane struts! I drew them up in CAD, printed several versions as templates, rebuilt them several times & finally lost all motivation. I could never get the fit of all 4 struts to be spot on.

I returned to custom car models & haven't been able to accomplish anything WWI aircraft related since. :-[
