If anyone is going next week, please send me a forum message. I will be there the entire show. I would enjoy putting faces to names.

Hear hear! I'm excited to see what delights are on display - and please get photos of forum members together! 8)

So far, I've only heard from Ed. I can also be reached through Facebook messenger as Stuart Malone. Same goofy face there as here.
I didn't even think of taking pictures. Thanks for the suggestion. I'll throw my camera in the car.

There were 900 modelers with 2808 models at Nats this year. I spent 3 hours in the contest room taking pictures of builds that caught my eye. In total, I was able to get about 90-100 models photographed. The room was very crowded! Here are the ones I took of WWI armored cars and aircraft. Please be patient, the images are slow to load from my public dropbox folder.

Wow!! How do you judge 1,2,3 with quality like that!!?

The quality of builds on all tables was insane. My only guess is the judges had to borrow their grandchildren's eyeballs to spot the tiniest of flaws. I entered my Millenium Falcon and Space airbrush, both of which I have posted here, and a 1/72nd scale tank. I didn't get my Junkers J.I done in time. I took it along to work on it but was having too much fun at the convention. Here's a picture of the trophies my entries were awarded on my hobby table.

Oh no! Swing and a miss! You still won getting to see 2000+ models. I always find the best thing I take away from shows is inspiration...and maybe some swag...

The best thing was meeting other modelers and vendors. Almost all of them are just normal dudes like us who love the hobby.

Thanks for posting these pics Stuart, they are a feast to the eye!
Sorry to hear that there were no awards for your models...

Hi Stuart
Many thanks for posting those amazing images of the WW1 entries at the IPMS Nationals. There's some jaw dropping work there for sure and we really appreciate you posting such clear images to make us all drool over the quality of the work on show.
I hope you enjoyed some great bargains in the vendor room too! It's great to see WW1 subjects still getting plenty of love from the modellers.

Hear hear, it's one thing to visit a show but to take the time to take (and share) such great photos is something I'm very grateful to you for. Thank you Stuart!

Stunning models, it must be a great show and a memorable experience. Thank you for sharing.

Some wonderful pictures - from those of us on the other side of the globe that one day hope to attend one of these events, thank you for sharing!
The FF.60 as I understand it took away a whole bunch of awards (best aircraft, etc). It was completely scratch built by Steve Hustad, based primarily on photographic references. Steve is a stalwart of the WW1 modelling scene; he's been a bit of an idol of mine ever since as a teen in the 90s I spied his works in Fine Scale Modeler. His stuff is almost single handily responsible for my interest in small scale WW1 models :) He's an upstanding chap too. Now, to entice him over here...
In any case, here are some more photos of the FF.60, reproduced here with Steve's permission:

Immaculate. On top of an incredible build the figure and water are perfect!!

Thanks to Bob for reminding me to take my camera and I'm glad I could share them here. Next year in San Marcos, TX, I will focus more on the WWI aircraft entries. I had promised another group I would get pics from all the categories this year. I don't think I'll be doing that again! My back and feet were very tired.
