Here is my rendition of one from 20 Polish DH.9, which were donated by UK in 1920. They were transported by ship to Gdansk, then moved in crates to the eastern front of Polish-Russian war, where they were assembled, had Polish national markings painted, repaired and attached to two Recco Squadrons. H5721 was in 5th Squadron and was photographed in Tarnopol airfield in early July 1920. The historical documents suggest it was damaged beyond repair but details are missing.
Enjoy!

Superb!

Absolutely magnificent, Prze. Your attention to detail is inspiring.
Thank you for sharing your superb model, my friend.
Cheers,
Ernie :)

That's just outstanding Prze. Nicely done!
Cheers,
Lance

What a beautiful piece of work, Prze! Well done and thanks for sharing it with us.
Best wishes

It has become a true gem. I like the polish markings and the version of course. And your stitching is an excellent match to the kits impression.
I will use your build for future reference.
I still haven't decided which version my first DH9 is going to be. The easy choice is the LVA version, but I would like to make the KLM version. For that one I have to do some research first as they were able to fit in at least 3 passengers. Also the wings were slightly swept to compensate for the weight of the passengers behind the pilot.
regards,
Ivo

Prez,
Superb - built to your usual very high standard, mate.
Regards
Dave

She is a thing of true beauty, Prze!
Well done ;)
What next?
Cheers,
Bob

Superb!
Agreed! Just a little more in awe of your finish!

A truely stunning model Prze, the Polish markings look excellent on this aeroplane. You have done a superb job with the build and the overall finish is brilliant.

A absolute stunner Prze, gorgeous! I love the scheme and the Czech markings.
-
Absolutely gorgeous!
Makes me wanna build one....or at least order it :)
Best regards,
Sasho

According to Google translate, this means "how beautiful" in Polish. Jak piękne
Absolutely amazing work
-
Incredibly sharp detail. Well done!
Lindsay

Wonderful finish and detailing.
What paints do you get on with best?

Oh my, this is SO BEAUTIFUL! I love the bird and am most interested in the history of the "post-war-wars" up to the early 1920ies, so you hit my very soft spot...
Thank you very much for sharing, PrzemoL!
Richard

Just to add my applause to this build - Clean, Crisp and very well done. Difficult not to spend too long just poring over the details and how you arrived at them.
Huzzahs Sir: ... Huzzahs!
-
Absolutely superb I love it.
-
Wonderful build. I know that WNW kits are good ones to start from but you take them to a completely different level again. Absolutely inspiring - and unusual markings too.
-
Fantastic next gem in the collection !
-
Many, many thanks, everybody for such a welcome to my newest build. I am very glad you like it.
Bob, after building two large WNW DHs recently, now it is time for something smaller. I have just started working on 1/72 Roden' Albatros D.II to be finished in Karl Emil Schaefer's colours from Kasta 11.
Ivo, I will be looking forward to your KLM machine. I have looked through my refs and found a photo of H-NABF (former H5889, former G-EAOZ) in the Squadron book. Is this the one you plan to build?
Thank you, threadhead, for your effort to write in my native language. Google translator was absolutely correct this time ;)
Graham, I use acrylics only. This model was almost entirely painted with Pactra, except for metallic ones, which came from old Citadel series and Vallejo.
-
Yes, the H-NABF is the most likely plane. It has been the only one active between 1921 - 1926. The other 3 have been in service for less than a year. And you've got the former registrations correct too. It was taken over from AT&T ;D (Air Transport and Travel Ltd). But it has had several modifications during its time with the KLM. I'll have to visit the archives to see if there is any documentation left.
regards,
Ivo

Doubtless, it will be a very interesting subject. I wish you all the luck in the archive searching!
BTW, justin1980, these are not Czech markings ;)

Outstanding work Przemek! 8)

Beautiful model and checker patterns I like this. ;D
Adam.
-
Great job, Polish color-congratulations Przemek :D.I look forward to Polish models ;)
-
Thank you very much, my dear countrymen! ;)

first class made model with fine markings, even if mirror-view checker-boards on wings look a little unusual for me ;)

Thank you very much, buzby.
As for the markings, it was a time when no rule was observed for the layout of the checkboard fields. Even if the order from December 1918 specified the upper left field to be red. Especially when the markings were painted in the field conditions many possible combinations were present. Even as late as 1925, when French flying boats Schreck FBA17 were bought, they had the markings painted incorrectly.
Several photos of DH.9s, from the time when they were used in the eastern front, show the consistency between those aircraft and the mirror-view layout is evident, also in the case of the fuselage markings.
-
PrzemoL, I know that - same scheme is on Ardpol's one in 1/72
-
Another magnificient model - I envy your skills at producing PC10 that is not boring.
Do you have plans to go back to 1/72 scale, or will you stick with the large kits?
Stefan
-
Thanks, Stefan.
And who said, that PC10 was boring? ;)
I plan to build in both scales, intermittently. I am currently working on Roden's 1/72 Albatros D.II (Schaefer). And there are 1/72 Roden's Fokker Dr.I (Raben), MAC's Bristol Scout (Hawker), Toko's Aviatik D.I (Linke-Crawford) in my nearest plans besides 1/32 WNW Roland D.VIa (Kissenberth) and Salmson (post-war Polish). With my current build speed I have enough models till late 2015...

I feel like such an idiot, I have no idea why I wrote Czech! :o My apologies Przemek, schoolboy error, didn't look at what I typed!
-
Do not worry, Justin. These things happen to everybody. Funny enough, we call such mistakes "Czech mistakes" in my language!
-
Prez, I'm so glad you posted the link on Rowan's thread. I can't believe I missed this beauty. She's absolutely stunning!
Cheers,
Bud

Lush Prze,
Particularly like the bungee chord on the gunners station :)
Guy

Looks fantastic. Really attractive markings.

this is one gorgeuos model przemol ,i personally like the dh-9 much more than the 9a. something about the sleek nose. the dh-9a reminds me of the dh-4 too much.you did a wonderful job, i especially like the leather combing and cushions in the cockpit which you made look very real.
-
Hi!
Splendid work!
Congrats!
Ciao
Iwik
-
Thank you, gentlemen.
Though I thought, that everybody has already seen this model. It is almost one year now, since it was completed ;)
Guy, the bungee cord is a thin rubber with white textile sheathing - my wife had it in her sewing kit.
ALBATROS1234, I am absolutely agreed with you on this, DH.9a looks ungainly with that massive front radiator, while DH.9 is elegant. If it only was not for that unreliable Puma engine...
-
Beautiful, so typical of your great work !!
Ed
-
Hello Prze!!!
Im discovering this one rather late but nevertheless... It is gorgeous!!! And using my girlfriends words - this plane is so ugly that I actually love how it looks like... polish camouflage suits to it quite well too!!! No need talking about your superb work on it ;)
Cheerio Lukas
-
Oh boy! That is so beautiful! How on earth did I miss this last year?
Note to self - must pay closer attention. :-[
Tony.
-
Hello gentlemen,
Just amazing. I like it !!! :) :)
Best regards.
Alain.
-
Astonishing detail and a truly perfect rendition of this aircraft
-
I thank you all, who might have come late to this party, but still left very much appreciated comments! Glad you like my DH.9 in somewhat unusual livery, but then, so dear to me.
-
Superb finish!
-
I discovered this thread just now, Przemol, I am sorry to be late for the party.
You did a great job on this build, I especially admire the nice finish with very subtle and natural weathering.
Btw. it might be of interest for someone the polish markings are credited to Stefan Stec, a polish aviator who served in Austro-Hungarian air force during WWI and used the red-white checkerboard as his personal insignia.

-
Thanks, Odysseus and Ondra!
And, Ondra, thanks for bringing the roots of Polish national emblem to public!
-
Once again a build I can only dream of Przemo! I especially like the soft colors and of course your amazing talents! Congratulations.
Kind regards
Patrick

Well...I am trying to figure out how I missed this amazingly well executed and well photographed model.....but I looked at the dates and realise it was posted before I became part of this Band of Lunati.....er, ah, I mean Band of Brothers (and Miss Terri!).
Looking at this DH.9 and then looking at the F'stowe, it is clear you have a wonderful and identifiable personal style of building and finishing. So subtle but so very realisitic.
Bravo, Przemo....keep 'em coming.....and I really wish you'd reconsider the AEG....you would make it into a masterpiece.
Cheers from NYC,
Michael
-
this is amazing przemol. i think this is maybe your best model. itis perfect
-
Thank you, Patrick! Though I am convinced, that if I manage to build my models like this, then possible anybody would do the same or even better!
Michael, again, many thanks for your overly kind words, truly appreciated. Well, I will try to keep building my models, though I must admit I feel tired with Felixstowe project. I have some ill thoughts of giving it up. But then, I suppose, that when it is ready and maybe after a couple of days my fingers will start itching... But I have to disappoint you once again, AEG is definitely out of question. Even if by a strange chance, I got it as a gift, I would not build it. I am sorry.
ALBATROS1234, thanks, too. This DH.9 is indeed among my favourites, top five definitely. I am glad you like it so much, too!
-
Totally brilliant DH9 - fantastic!
-
No worries, mon ami. I am sure that whatever you choose to build following the Felixstowe will be wonderful and, I hope for your sake, a little less involved.
BTW, I do not blame you for passing on the idea of a live-feed for the final steps. I think the fun of the idea was actually in the possibilty of putting faces, and accents!, to the names of our international crew. But the pressure on you would not be worth it. I am sure the postings of congratulations will be plenty.
Cheers from NYC,
Michael (whose 62 1/2 B'day is Aug. 22 if you do happen to receive an AEG that you really don't want.) (But my wife would ask, "are you sure you aren't going to be 6 1/2?")
-
Thank you, Petrov.
Michael, I will remember about your birthday date, though I suppose getting AEG as a gift is very unlikely ;)
-
Yeah, well, one should never give up hope when it comes to B'days, Christmas, and marriage. You submit your wish, say a big [prayer, then hope for the best.
