1/4 scale SE5a
« on: August 22, 2015, 03:27:15 AM »
Hello all,

Apologies if in the wrong section? Bit of a diversion.. 1/4 scale SE5a - she's taken nearly 4 years on & (mainly) off. Took her up to the flying field today for some taxying & engine runs - so far so good! Hope to fly her in the next couple of weeks.. She has an 80 inch wingspan (just over 6 & a half feet) so looks a bit of a beast indoors...

Don't be too harsh on the scale detail.. It's not meant to be a competition winner - just something fun to fly!  :D

Thanks for looking,

Guy

Wow, Guy!  That is breathtaking!  80 inch wingspan?!  You must need a trailer to haul her to the field.  When you get her flying, if you can, please post a video.
Cheers,
Bud

She looks like the real deal sitting outside! I'd also love to see video of her flying.

Beautiful, Guy! With this monster in your stable it's little wonder you didn't think twice about the Felixstowe, a small presence by comparison. A video would be much appreciated here as well, good luck with the maiden flight.
Cheers,
Lance

She looks absolutely beautiful Guy, you have done a superb job with the build and the finish on the model, this will look spectacular in the air, what size engine is fitted?

Lovely work, Guy!
Be nice to see some film footage of her maiden flight - make it so!

Thanks guys..  ;)

Yep, can't wait to get her flying, but the weather will need to be perfect for her maiden!

Will post a video as soon as I can..

Des, it's a Laser 180 engine (beautiful) which equates to around 30cc..

Guy, do you have any build photos? I'd like to see the construction techniques of your RC SE5a. I know it's not a full inner frame replica, but I'm curious to see how she was built.

Thanks,
George

George,

Unfortunately I didn't bother on this one, but here's a link to a very impressive time lapse video of a 1/6 Sopwith Snipe in the making.. Only a few minutes but it beautifully shows a complete build.. Nothing I can claim credit for unfortunately, but very impressive!  ;)

Bud,

Actually it's not too bad - fits nicely in the back of my hatchback - it's a clever design - the fuselage & centre section stay put and the wings just slide on and off. The rigging is fully functional and just clicks in place - the struts are held in by magnets! But the rigging gives it the strength..

That takes modelling into a new dimension! Bet you do not have a glass cabinet for that one. That will be VERY impressive in the air - now all you need is a Fokker D VII to dogfight with!

Looking forward to the video of it in flight.
