Sopwith Pup on HMS repulse photos needed.....
« on: September 14, 2014, 03:12:35 AM »
greetings, all,

(am I posting this question in the correct section of the forum?)

First post here and very glad to be on board.

And, speaking of being on board, my current build is the WnW Pup that was on HMS repulse/HMS Furious as seen as example F in the kit instructions.

First question: in the profile, just above and below the numbers on the side of the fuselage, there appear to be two loops of cord. I assume these are some sort of tiedowns specific to the ship borne aircraft. Does anyone have a better photo of them?

Second question: regarding Photos in general, does anyone have any Photos similar to those showing the plane on the ship in the instructions? I'm looking for shots that show more of the specific sort of weathering that would be seen on a fabric covered ship board aircraft. I'm also considering, at some point, of doing a diorama of the Pup on this wooden launching platform and would love to find more detailed photos and drawings of it.

Third question: is everyone having a nice day?

Any help on these, particularly the first two, would be greatly appreciated.

Cheers from NYC,
Michael

No specific answers to any of your questions, but check out the nice pup on launch platform dio here -- maybe some inspiration? (scroll down a bit):

The rope loops weren't tie downs, they were for the deck hands to grab to help pull the aircraft onto the deck. You can see one reaching for the loop in Bo's first pic.

Ach!!! I had no idea there'd been a response and that it had been moved. Many thanks, Bo!!!

Much appreciated. Also, thanks, Ian...now that you've pointed that out, I see them in several places. My, how things have changed; I'm trying to imagine deckhands on a modern Carrier reaching up to grab loops to PULL an aircraft down to the deck. Or the cojones it took for the gents pictured to run towards a spinning prop with the wind coming over the bow and the aircraft hovering around.

Bo, these are great. I believe there is enough information here to make at least a plausible platform when the time comes.

Ok.....super!

Cheers from NYC,
Michael
