I just had to go and check the loft to remember what that last one was that I collected. Turns out it's the Revell 1/32nd scale Tiger Moth. Why that one? Well, I thought that it would look rather neat in my case as one of the "Blue Max" SEs:
Well guys it's confirmed,I must be completely insane! On a visit to the LHS yesterday I picked up two 1/72 scale kits. A Roden Albatros D.III and an Encore Sopwith Camel. Can't blame it on an impulse buy either as I'd ordered them both a couple of weeks ago. Looking at these two little gem I can see the ol'Optivisor is going to need a major upgrade just to pull off the dreaded rigging.

Joe like I`ve said lucky you these Pyro kits are really hard to come by in Poland.
My latest shopping list consists of Etrich Taube, Halberstadt II and Morane G each in 1:48.
I hope I`ll have some time off from my scientific work during the summer to have fun with Gotha V...

You really gave me a jolt there, Bob! I was ready to head over to the WNW site with Mastercard cocked, locked, and ready to rock!
NOT! :P
Sure! A snip here a tuck there and.... Voila! A "Pfaltzatros! ;D

On the down side Canadian Border Services decided to "protect" the Canadian Model Kit Builders (?????) and charged me 20% Duty, a first for packages from N.Z.
Here are a few things I've picked up over the last few weeks.

You sound pretty busy, I'm going to really have to get serious about this retirement thing (Failing miserably!) maybe I need help!?
Cheers,
Lance
[Try it, you'll like it. It's the best job I've ever had. I stay home and do anything I want and the cheque arrives every month like clockwork.
Just picked up this tripe from the secondhand section in Hannants London :)
I have been after the SopTripe for ages... YAY!
Does this kit go together well? Any info is warmly welcomed.
Cheers,

Arrived early last week- Roden 1/32 Albatros D.III and Spad VII. I'm glad I ordered them before I started fighting with the rigging on my Pfalz or I may have changed my mind.
That's 14 WWI kits in the stash and three weeks until I leave Defence, to go into semi-retirement. Methinks I've timed it well!
Cheers.

What do people here tend to buy - do you buy loads of a particular model, or do you spread it more thinly as I have?
My order from WNW finally arrived today (ordered 27 Nov):
Gotha G. IV
Pfalz D. III
Pfalz D. XII
Fokker D. VII (Fok)
Fokker D. VII (Alb)
Fokker D. VII (OAW)
Now I need to start on the Roden Fokker Dr. I and adding to the stash ;D
Ollie
Blimey, Ollie - you are going to be busy!!! envy you buying all those WNW kits too ............!
I'm still awaiting my recent WNW order - have the Fokker DVII (Fok version) and SE5a on (hopefully) the way - can't wait to receive them!!
I'm starting wonder if a WNW Fokker DVII group build would be a good idea given all our rush to hold of them?
Regards
Dave

Dave,
I've been saving up to buy something for a while now and this was just to good of a time to buy. And since it's a start in WW I Modeling for me I can't go wrong. Yes I think a group build would be great but wait a few till everyone has there's. Seems like some are still waiting to get them.
Ollie
Received my latest order from Wingnuts just ten minutes ago, the Fokker D.VII (Albatros) and the Hannover, I am very impressed with the box contents.
Des.
Now to convince The Missus that I need time to build all these.
PS Don't tell Gary (trackpad) about the Spitfire- he gets upset. :D
G'day.
It's alright, mate, I won't tell Gary. I admit to a lasting fondness for the Spitfire.
Cheers.
Dal.
Loved that book Killer Angels.
Didnt know youre a Civil War fan. Wheelers Witness to Gettysburg and Foote's Stars in Their Courses in the Library? Hope so theyre fabulous.
Like you I could not believe how many wonderful items were under the tree, I suspect your Spouse, as did mine, had a little to do do with it!
Chris, we must get together to discuss the US Civil War. In another life, I've conducted several battlefield tours to Gettysburg, probably the best Civil War battlefield in the States. And it's only about 11 hours from my front door. Good books you've got there, my friend. If you wish, I might be able to aim you toward a few other good ones along the Gettysburg line.
I recommend William Frassanito's "Gettysburg: A Journey In Time," an interesting study of the Brady and Gardner photographs of the battlefield. Fraz was a fraternity brother and frat advisor while I was at Gettysburg College in the late 1970s. His specialty is Civil War photographs, and he has also published books on the photos of Antietam and the Wilderness Campaign. Interesting stuff.
It's funny how our interests often overlap... Gary, if you haven't been down since the new battlefield park Visitors Center opened a few years ago, it's worth the trip. The old cyclorama mural painting has been restored and is now in the Visitors Center. First Class all the way.
On a related note, I recommend William Frassanito's "Gettysburg: A Journey In Time," an interesting study of the Brady and Gardner photographs of the battlefield. My latest aquisitions include the WNW Tripe, Fokkers and the Hannover, all securely tucked away in the stash. I just ordered some figures last week: the RFC pilot from MDC to go with my impending Pup night trainer, and a wonerdful figure of Georges Guynemer for whenever I get to his Nieuport or SPAD also in the stash. ;D
Regards,
Bob
O.M.F.G. I can't believe it. I'm still shaking. I just slapped down the plastic on my first WnW kits!
A beautiful Sopwith Pup RNAS and Roland DVIa are winging their way across the pond to my fat little hands. I wish you guys knew what a big deal this was. I have trouble spending $0.99 on an app in iTunes. Dropping money on (admittedly the two cheapest) kits is a very big step for me.
I feel like a 13 year old girl waiting for the Bieber concert. You'll hear my girly screams when I get the kits.

Thanks to Lindsay for making me laugh and nod knowingly to myself, and to Ian for arming me with yet another incontrovertible justification for my purchases in dealing with SWMBO! ;) Thanks guys! You're the best. ;D

I ordered six kits from WNW & they were posted on 11th December.
I've not received them.
Should I be worried?
I've popped the tracker number in and "not yet tracked" comes up.
I've sent 2 e-mails to WNW and no reply at all.
It's now almost 6 weeks since they were posted.
OK - Parcelforce do not have the parcel, yet tracking shows it last in NZ on 20th December.
Hmmm.
Surely it flies over, rather than on a boat?!
This is the order:
32001 - 1/32 Junkers J.1 $79.00 1 $79.00
32004 - 1/32 Bristol F.2b Fighter $79.00 1 $79.00
32006 - 1/32 Pfalz D.IIIa $65.00 1 $65.00
32012 - 1/32 RE.8 'HARRY TATE' $89.00 1 $89.00
32019 - 1/32 Pfalz D.XII $65.00 1 $65.00
32022 - 1/32 Roland D.VIa $65.00 1 $65.00
Would be surprised if that lot were too heavy for air freight?
Dean
I've told Dave what Parcelforce have said, so he's going to take it up with NZ Post.
Fingers crossed!
I received my WNW order today, but... they shipped me the wrong package :(
I'd ordered a Pfalz D.IIIa, but when I opened the package, it contained an Albatros D.Va, with a packing slip for some gent in Sweden. His name sounds very much like mine, and with a Kiwi accent on top of that, maybe they got his and my parcels confused. I've worked in manufacturing companies for many years, and picturing the hectic shipping in the days after WNW's Christmas shutdown, I just hope they didn't make too many shipping errors.
The interesting thing is that with the US's exorbitant postage rates, returning the Albatros from the US to NZ will cost more than my estimate of the kit's manufacturing/wholesale cost. It would be more cost-effective for WNW to simply ship me the correct kit and let me keep the Albatros. It will be interesting to see how they decide to handle it.
Peter
What you want for the wood lathe? ;)
I ordered the same Booth as Chris; we were comparing notes forever and when he committed, I had to "keep up with the Johnson's".
Once you guys have had the chance to give your new booths please know how they preformed. Certain sounds like a great investment.
Wow, I bet you guys'll be able to handle the Ebola virus safely using those units!
Not an acquisition but a gift.
A friend of mine gave me Jane's Fighting Aircraft of World War 1, this is the book that they were not allowed to publish during the war years for fear of the enemy getting hold of it and finding out what aircraft they were up against, it was published after the war. This book covers just about every country with masses of period photos and specifications on a lot of the aircraft. There is also a great section on aero engines of the time with terrific photos and cutaway drawings, 320 pages of excellent reference material.
Des.
That's around 5-6 weeks to get here - that must have been either on a boat or a very, very slow aeroplane.
................ I have to say I enjoy rigging, tedious it may be but rewarding it is.
Gary
I just purchased Osprey's Aircraft of the Aces book featuring Austro-Hungarian aircraft for $18.95! Pretty stoked about it.
Next months purchase WnW Hannover CL.II also a piece of camera equipment.
Finally, If could purchase spring time weather I'd do it in a heartbeat!
Steve
This lot finally arrived this morning from New Zealand after a 6 week wait:
With a bit of luck I should be able to start building again in a couple of weeks - yipee!!!!!
I bought 6 together to save money.
Honest.
I get hit with 20% VAT plus an £8 charge for every package I receive from outside the EU.
So by ordering six, I saved 5 x £8 = £40 - in effect, a free kit, so I got six kits for the price of 5 if ordered individually!
Plus, as an extra bonus, customs under-charged me on the VAT.
Customs will make up for their oversite eventually. Stay deligent! :)
Marvellous.
...and in other news, the health of the global economy took a dramatic turn for the better, mainly on positive news from the New Zealand export sector. Over to Ken at the sports desk...
Boy, am I on the band wagon! This just came today. I'm itchin' to get started on it. I've checked out the parts and have done a little test fitting. This is a fantastic kit.
Cheers,

Ummm. Let's see. Ummm. It will definitely be 2013. Without a doubt. Of that, I'm most certain. You can take that one to the bank, Chris.Boy, am I on the band wagon! This just came today. I've been waiting patiently to see you make a foray into 1/32 scale with a WnW kit. Now I'll pin you down by asking for a firm start date! ;D
Cheers,
Chris
After forum member gcn presented the results of his fantastic WnW DH2, there was a discussion on something he called "knit in elastic" that he used for rigging. I decided to go to my local purveyor of knitting supplies, also known as my mother-in-law, and picked up some this for a song ;)
The brand name might help our North American members source a supply. Notice it says 200m for $3.49! Looking forward to giving it a try.
. . . I see another huddle coming shortly with the other two model musketeer's, Chris and Gary, to determine our next move!

I just purchased the Fe.2b and am tossing up whether to get the HGW super detailed PE set for the kit, it's very expensive though.
My latest deliveries, the Wingnuts Fe.2b which I hope to do as the night bomber . . .
My latest deliveries, the Wingnuts Fe.2b which I hope to do as the night bomber, the Valom 1:144 scale Sopwith Pup, I will be doing a review of this tiny kit, and the Top Studio 1:12 scale detail motor bike roller chain to add to my Huck Starter. So glad you were finally able to get hold of that chain, Des! I'm really looking forward to seeing your Huck Starter finished. Also looking forward to seeing your Fee build. Like Chris, I also have the early version, but haven't yet worked up the gumption to jump up a scale. Maybe your build will be the one to push me over the edge.
Des.
Save me from myself! ;DGreat score, Bobby me boy! Looking forward to seeing what you do with them.
Oh yes!

Today I bought.1/48 f. AJP Maquette- AVRO ROE TriplaneI'm looking forward to seeing you build this one, Mietek. I've been curious about these kits, but wanted to find out what others thought of them before pulling the trigger.
My 1/72 DR1 sheet arrived today from Rowan. I am amazed by all the marking options included in the set. I'm going to have to grab 3 or 4 Revell DR1's now! I love the many schemes German aircraft had, I guess that's why I'm hooked on them.
The DR1 measures around 3 inches, so I might find room to build the whole set included on the sheet! :) Thanks Rowan!
Oh yeah, the Junkers and Brisfit came today too. ;)
My first WNW set. My hands are shaking from the impressions :)

Before you invest in Revells Dr.I I would suggest you to consider Eduard's kits. They are much better in my opinion, and they are also tiny! ;)
And well, Rowan does not cease to amaze us with his offerings, every single decal set is so rich, that it makes you think of building a whole line-up of similar machines.

I think the Revell 1:71 Dr1 is an Eduard molding. OK you don't get any PE extras with the Revell kit, but it is very inexpensive, quick and easy to build.
Quite a haul, Fred! Your stash is starting to look like mine. Just for future reference, you can pick up those Roden kits for about half the price here:

My NEXT purchase will probably be a WNW Fokker DVII. 1/72 is getting more difficult for me to do. A welding mishap a few weeks ago has left me with no feeling in four fingertips on my left hand. Dealing with tee-tiny parts with that problem and the ole eyesight getting worse , I need to move up to 1/32 scale.
Right now I'm working on a Roden 1/72 Brisfit and I'm spending as much time under my desk with a flashlight as I am topside! LOL! The average detail part in this kit is around 3mm in size and tough to keep track of.
I have built a Phalz DIII from WNW so it needs a hanger - mate.
These are my first WnW models and they are absolutely exquisit!! I want them ALL!!! Just don't tell the wife!! :-X

I'll be sure to watch this build with much interest, Bud.May be a while before I get going on this one, Ernie. I still have the Phonix, 2 Halberstadts and a SPAD on the bench. I'll need to clear some space first.
Hope to see more as you go.
By the way, you are right, the seats are exquisite!
Cheers,

Lots of colourful birds on that sheet!! Which one are you planning on?I want to do one of the Canucks, Steve. Either one of the Black Cats, or "Lundy's Lane". I sort of want to do the US Navy one, too. And those barn stormers look like fun. Hell, I don't know. I may have to do more than one. ???
Steve
Looks great :) Squinting at the photos of the instructions, am I right, that you got to decide yourself about the colour in some cases? Whichever you do, it'll be impressive I know. That's right, Mark. In some cases, the metal panel colors are unclear. I'll be leaning heavily on the Datafiles for this one. If I do "Lindy's Lane", I'll change some of the decals around and add to them to more closely match the photos in the Datafile.
And surely the Jenny is a near cert for a future WNW kit? Seems to me it'd be a winner.
Mark
Man, that's a ton of detailing stuff you've got there Lance. I'm interested in hearing your thoughts on those spark plugs and manifold nuts when you get around to using them. What's your initial thoughts on the casting of them? Nice and clean?
Cheers,
Chris

As for WNW doing a Jenny? I'm not so sure. This topic came up here before and there didn't seem to be much support for an unarmed trainer. If WNW were to do a trainer, I believe the Avro 504K would be a more likely candidate. A night fighter option might garner some support.
By the way, I appreciate the vote of confidence.

Good one Ian, I still regard the WnW Bristol F2b fighter as their best kit ever.
My latest acquisition - three sheets of Bob's "strippers", one each of 0.5mm, 0.75mm and 1.0mm.

You are correct, Sir.
Being retired, ties are only for weddings and funerals, and my age, the latter happens more often than the former.......... :P
The beginning, of course ;)
Not so much motivation Filip as time! My problem lies in advancing years and a stash of wonderful models. I 'm more likely to have it running part time alongside other greater priorities. How about you? It would be an interesting challenge though. Most definitely it would be a challenge but a worthwile I think! I agree the stash keeps growing and the progress is so slow.
Best wishes
Nigel

The Biff is entirely Mr. Delatorre's fault. He has repeatedly stated that it remains WNW's best kit. I have to say, after examining the contents of the box, he might be right. Thanks, Des!
The books were a buck a piece from Paladin Press. They were close-out items, but in perfect condition.

Last week I picked up a few used kits/spare part kits. Flashback Berg D.I, Fokker D.II, Neuiport 17c.I, FE.2b, and Avro 504 zeppelin hunter. The Aeroclub FE.2b is brand new and traded it to another member. The N.17 is profie version. A really nice kit. Please tell me someone makes a better Lewis gun for it. 8)Best Lewis guns available anywhere!

......................I have to say I was disappointed in the decal set. The set sheet shows 5 possible versions but 2 are not possible unless you have lozenge fabric decals for the wings - and the required lozenge decals are not included in the set. Surprise, surprise you have to but separately - what a con!
So if I wanted to do any of these versions of I also have to fork out for a separate sheet of lozenge decals. That was not clear from WNW website - I won't get caught out like that again - next time I'll just stick to what is supplied in the kit. That said, my wife liked the red and blue Jasta 18 colours so will do one of the other ones not requiring lozenge decals.......
I do not hope, that the Junkers J1 is the next "sold-out" model, I have not ordered yet.Bertl
Since April 2009 I wonder - order, or not order? ???

Well done Eric, I still believe, in my opinion, that this is the best kit that Wingnuts have ever produced.

Great choice Bo! Take along a CD or your ITunes version of Lightfoot's "Wreck of the Edmond Fitzgerald" to savour with your favorite libation in the quiet of the evenings. American or Canadian side??
Cheers,
Lance
we have a place in the U.P. I guess that's still America. ;)
The Fitzgerald lies not too far from our place... (30 or 40 miles I guess as the crow flies)

Yes! And a truly extravagant piece of artistry it is!
Regarding the Snipe. Forgive my ignorance, but, has Rowan produced a decal sheet for the late Snipe? Hope so!
Make a lovely birthday present :P ;D

Good one Snowy, you have just purchased the best Wingnuts kit ever :) :)
Des.
I think at US$10 discount over the cost of the individual kits, and only one decal option for each, it just wasn't very good value. A marketing experiment?
Perhaps. I have one with a fault - even rarer! You can have it for one billion dollars!
Yes Bo, the same thoughts I had.I agree with Bo's hunch with the Biff not far behind. Ugly, yes, but oddly attractive, non the less. I know a few women like that.
But it is and remains a very, very ugly plane in my eyes...... ::)

This book was delivered today, I purchased it from England and it arrived here in 6 days, good service. I bought this book to help me with my, hopefully, next scratch build. Not a huge book but 80 pages of facts and a lot of photos. The book is used but in reasonably good condition, published 1990.
Hello tom
Yes, I picked up a copy of this a short while ago and thought it excellent value for money. Given it's relatively narrow focus, let's hope we see further volumes. My guess would be that something focusing on Fokker aircraft, but I so wish that we could see something on photo-reconnaissance, artillery spotting etc. after all, the activities of the 'Knights of the Sky' were surely a means to an end rather than an end in itself?
Best wishes

True. Without the observation and artillery spotting aircraft, there would have been no need for the single seat fighters. The two-seaters were the workhorses of the air war, were responsible for major ground decisions (observation) and more casualties (spotting) than the little fighters. They got most of the death and destruction and little of the glory.
So, when the Harry Tate becomes available once again, I'll be getting at least one. Stupid on my part to delay.
Kudos to all for their latest purchases! Bud, Looks like I am going to be right behind you on that Pfalz! Perhaps a future Dual build. You do the 1/32nd WNW and Eduard 1/48th and I will do the WNW and Roden in 1/32nd ::)Sounds like a plan, Amigo.

Well it is a very nice rig. I'll know for sure when I do use it though how handy it is. I wasn't impressed with being charged VAT as I have never had to pay taxes outside my country before. Also for the price I paid I was more than disappointed that it was all together in a plastic bag inside a card stock letter envelope and not in a cardboard box. As a result the base was cracked nearly in half. So without having actually used it yet and based on the price and method of delivery, I would not do it again.

Also -- the grain should always run fore and aft -- they have some panels with the grain running up and down, which is not correct. If you care.
. . . I'll have to rotate the decals, or maybe replace the wrongly orientated decals if they don't fit after rotating.
Chris -- I have a piece of their "tester" woodgrain stuff that comes with the D.V deluxe set -- I think its the same pattern(?) -- enough for about two panels I think; I am happy to send it to you....

Can I ask where did you get it from ?
I can't imagine they will sell out of the Albatros ever, it's their bread and butter model along with the D.vii and the Camel when it gets here. My view is once they sell out of those they're closing.
I'd be looking at the more esoteric 2 seaters in their range first
My money is on the J.I selling out next.
Of course you can. Came from KingKit in the UK. The other WNW kits they have in stock are shown here http://www.kingkit.co.uk/search.php (http://www.kingkit.co.uk/search.php)

Thanks guys. Have just read KEK’s and Fokkerstaffels: The Early German Fighter Units in 1915-1916. Very interesting book and it got me thinking about those early birds. Also a friend in the Netherlands sent me the Osprey book on Albatross D.I's and D.II's which just pushed me over the edge.

Mine is in customs. They want £55 to release it - extortion.
Yes, it's VAT at 20% and then an £8 handling charge.
They use some weird exchange rates - in the early days, they would use NZ$ exchange rates which was great, but they have worked out it's US $'s now.
VAT is a European sales tax. Retailers have to pass the 20% onto the Government, although they can claim back the VAT they paid on their purchases - hence the value added bit.
Wow, you people in the UK sure get screwed over when it comes to importing stuff, all these taxes and charges adds an enormous amount to the original price of the kit.It happens everywhere, at least in EU....
We are extremely lucky here in Australia, no import taxes or duties for any item under $1000, so a $100 Wingnuts kit only costs us $100 delivered to our door. Our biggest issue at present is the exchange rate, the Aussie dollar has gone through the floor so buying anything in US dollars is costing a heap more, for example - the Felixstowe duellist set selling for $349 would cost me $425, the Felixstowe selling for $269 would cost me $327 and even a single seater selling for $69 would now cost me $84. The purchase of any more Wingnut kits will be put off now until the Aussie dollar climbs again.
Des.

Ack! I am glad you found one! Didn't I say I would send you one? I totally spaced it out :-[
Its all good BO! I have the same issue sometimes 8)
RAGIIII love seeing that Teddy! It's funny to see a haul of several hundred dollars worth of great modelling stuff, followed by a tiny, single part cut from a sprue - it's a great contrast.
It was kind of a joke for that very reason :D
RAGIII
It looks like you have been sent the Late model 1916 Teddy by mistake. You can tell by the ever so slightly too big ears & the angle of the legs. Easy mistake to make, it will look good with a late Eindecker, but out of place on the the D.VII.
Windsock Datafile's "Teddy Bear Special" is ever so handy in these instances, but just impossible to find anywhere. Literally.
A beautiful book with excellent profiles of the various Albatros fighters.
Designed by Dave Douglass, a well-known member of our forum.
Well done, Dave.

My latest is a new tool :)Terri, the rosin core is actually for that last moment part of the soldering job. Flux should still be used for best results. Just dont use Plumbers solder or flux as it is acid based and will continue to eat away at the metal. I got some really nice low temp solder and flux from digikey and a soldering iron like yours. Works great. Hope that may be of some use to you.
Pick this up at a second store and figured this would be prefect for me . No way will I be able to burn myself or the house down .
No manual was included so will have to look online to see how to use this . I remember seeing this advertise on TV many moons ago .
The solder has a rosin core so no need for flux right ?
and came home with this as well .
A new cutting mat ! Got it 30 bucks :)

Hi BoogieAre they suit for 32 scale?
I haven’t really thought about what I’m going to do with them.
They were really hard to get. Small Order Quantities from China don’t really fit their industrial scale capacity. I posted a public tender, got lucky and found a small manufacturer, developed a relationship, sent photos of the wheels and they were happy to make to my specification.
My mate in Texas is a great Fokker Dr.I fan, he’s making Fokker Dr.I 141/17 and needed some natural rubber tyres. Thought it would be nice to go the extra yard and help him (I’ll post photos of his build soon).
Maybe I should send a pair to Jamo for a review; they’re just like milky-bar chocolate for modellers. I’m still prancing around my lounge room, glass of wine in-hand, awash with little rubber o rings. ;D
Best Regards

On Saturday I had a delivery of Revell's 1/72 Fokker D.VII (love that kit, it's fun and cheap) and 1/48 Dr.I. And yesterday came home to find a large box containing the Encore Models 1/72 Pfalz D.III "Blue Max" so I can use the decals on my existing WIP. Gorgeous! And, to top it off, I have all next week off work, so expect to see some progress.
Thanks guys! I've built the D.VII before and know it's a great quickbuild, and the Dr.I looks a treat on the sprues.
Sadly no, it's the 1/72 one. It's still a beautiful sheet which I'll use on the Roden 1/72 Pfalz I started in 2007 or so and recently picked up again. I showed the decal sheet to my fiancee and mentioned I hadn't wanted to hand-paint it, she just shook her head! The big one will follow in time, the big thing is finding a retailer who doesn't charge megabucks to ship it to me.
Just arrived! A new home for my Taurus Gnome that didn't fit into my Pup (unless I made some major changes and used a different style AM cowl)

I've just try to fit this engine to cowl (it's shame, but for a first time... my pups arrived few years ago) - it's impossible... Gnome engine is in the full scale - 1:32. Now my engines (Oberursels U0 and UIII, Bentley) are in scale 1:32.5 to allow on fitting in cowl. I'll try to make a new crankcase for Gnome, but it takes time.

That's OK Terri. My latest acquisitions, from vendors at small show I attended this past Saturday, are the new Airfix 1/72 Blenheim Mk 1 and a book on the F-15C/D. :)
Eric
Don't feel so alone now ;) I heard that Aixfix's Blenheim is a pretty good kit . Which show was this ?

All the new Airfix releases are excellent. I also recently got their new 1/72 Dornier Do 17Z and it's a beauty.
The show was in Port Clinton, Ohio put on by the Toledo IPMS chapter.

Good one, Ian! That's a great kit. Looks like Freightdog has them on sale now. Huge discount.

Now that is an awesome tool Russell, like Bo, I would like to know where you purchased it please.

This arrived last week - just about to perform a fiendish modification on one of Otto's wheels ;)

It's a tiny milling machine made by John Stevens of London who makes various types of machines & tooling for watchmakers & modellers.
OMG this is a beautiful machine Russell.
I wish I had one.
Otto
I've exchanged emails with John S, he is pretty much up for building any sort of miniature machine tool you might fancy...

I fancy one like Russell's. How much is he quoting?
It ain't cheap :) Didn't ask for one exactly like Russell's, so I can't say, but... let's say a fairly large pile of Otto's tires would need to be sacrificed...
So thats the catch after flogging all those armour kits!!!
Steve
lots of stuff dribbling in over the past 1-2 months.
lots of stuff dribbling in over the past 1-2 months.
That's not a bad start Lance but I think you can do better if you try just a tweeny bit harder. ;D
Cheers,

I'm booked in a 2 min drive away from you at the Travel Haven so I'm sure there's a refreshment stand somewhere near by we can all congregate at.
Steve
. . . Yes Chris I'm going to be there. Hotel booked, days off and now if I can get my eye situation straightened away I might even try to build something!!!!
Steve
This is a great choice Rick, brings back many memories for me as well. I hope you do a build log of this model and post it on the forum, it will be very interesting to see how you tackle the project.
Des.
Not much in the lines of anything new but I did pick up Tamiya's 1/32 scale spitfire and GWH Douglas TBD-1A Floatplane .
Terri
Are you trying to find your workbench?
The microscope in place. I really hope this is worth it.

That's a really nice version of the Spitfire from what I've seen, Terri. :)
I thought WNW was impressive , this kit sets the bar very high ! The cowl panels and the framing have magnets which hold the panels in place so they can be removed to show off the engine .

George
Hi George ,
Yes , I post my WW2 builds here http://www.aeroscale.co.uk/ (http://www.aeroscale.co.uk/)
I just doing a build review of a BF 109 http://www.aeroscale.co.uk/modules.php?op=modload&name=SquawkBox&file=index&req=viewtopic&topic_id=234276&page=1 (http://www.aeroscale.co.uk/modules.php?op=modload&name=SquawkBox&file=index&req=viewtopic&topic_id=234276&page=1)
And also this one P-51B http://www.aeroscale.co.uk/modules.php?op=modload&name=SquawkBox&file=index&req=viewtopic&topic_id=235257&page=1 (http://www.aeroscale.co.uk/modules.php?op=modload&name=SquawkBox&file=index&req=viewtopic&topic_id=235257&page=1)
I also added two more kit's for the stash . Both Tamiya 32 scale P-51D and a F4U-1 Corsair 8)
Terri
That's true, Bo. ;) Facing the fact that even after building 15 models my showcase looks pretty empty, it is time to bring out the big boys. :)YEEEEESSSS!!! :) Just arrived from Bavaria.
:). Quite the jump in scale buddy :)
To speak frankly, this kit is not primarily meant for me to build. One very good friend of mine has been longing for the LVG for a long time (he belongs to the unfortunate ones who had not ordered in time when the kit was still available). A few weeks ago he lost his job and can not afford this purchase currently. But when I spotted the opportunity, I just ordered the kit by myself and as soon as he has found a new job and is back to good financial condition, the LVG will be waiting for him. ;)
Cheers

Greetings from Bavaria, Ondra ;)
So, my 10-year-old trusty Kawasaki racehorse may retire.

I agree, Squiffy. You're gonna love "Winged Victory". True story, "only the names are changed". Pick up on "Winged Victor, a Biography of Victor M. Yeates" by Gordon F. Atkin. It's an ideal companion for "Winged Victory" giving all of the true names to the characters. Both are excellent reads.Did not know of "Winged Victor....Yeates"...I've read his book 3 times now. Unfortunately the cheapest used copies at Amazon of "Winged Victor" are going for 36.39 pounds and the only new one they have is 1000.00 UK...yeah, one thousand.
Cheers,
Bud
Nice catch Squiffy, there's a lot of enjoyment in that small pile! Where does a fellow find "knock down prices" on Wingnut Kits?? :-\
Enjoy!
Cheers,
Lance
I get it George, it's Bo's "Giant Match" ploy; it's really a larger Scale but you are illustrating it with your giant fingers! This one could and probably would drive me to drink! These frame models are neat though........ ;) :o
Cheers, :)
Lance
I had the Aurora Giant Scale Fokker D.VII when I was a kid. It went together with screws. No recollection of what scale it was, but it was big. Molded in dark red and black plastic iirc...
Ermeio,
Glad to hear you are an avid Aurora collector too.I'have been collecting them since I was a teenager ,first just the WWI kits then later on included all the rest of their line. Have you found any of their Giant scale WWI kits yet? They are not bad considering their age.I believe that the scale is 1/16th or so. Looking forward to drooling over the photographs of your Renwal Aeroskin collection my old friend.
Highest Regards,
Gregory Jouette
Interesting sheets there Lance. What appeals more the Noops or Spads?
Steve
Very impressive haul, Dave! Happy birthday!
Cheers,
Bud
Went to Orange -Con yesterday. Pretty good show, less vendors than last year, but some high quality work displayed. I did get Windsock Datafiles 42, and 56, on the BE2c, and Vickers FB5 respectively.
Great pick-up with the book and kits Lance, the Roden SS D.III is a pretty good kit and builds up to be a nice looking model.
Des.
Got the book Flying Fox: Otto Fuchs: a German Aviator's Story 1917-1918 and some decals for future projects. Also a cockpit for my Spad XIII. Decals and cockpit from Kiwi Resin Models.

Well Des, Like the others I am certainly looking forward to seeing you build this one! I am wondering if it will be straight off the assembly line or used ?

I happen to know we have several "World Class" AFV Modellers here, perhaps Chris or Gary could provide a basic Tutorial on Weathering Techniques for AFV's to you adventurers........ ;)

James, another question; I ordered the WS Datafile for the D.II. Do you think I would also need the book you just bought as well? I'm finding it for around $35 USD, but I'm not sure I would need both books. What do you think, would it be redundant to get both?Hi George. I am not sure. I have ordered the Windsock title as well but dont expect to see it for another 3 or so weeks. I can tell you this onew has close up pictures from 2 museum birds covering engine and partial interior. There is a one page write up on the Mercedes engine and about 5 pages of line drawings. Finally there is a photo history of original photos. The back inside cover has 4 colour profiles. Personally I am happy with it. I can not comment on whether one or the other would be enough though, sorry about that.
George
Don't bag it, George! Build it!! ;D
vB
I got this kit at my monthly model club meeting. One of the members has a hobby shop and he brings new kits for sale to the meetings. And you can call him with requests, which is very handy.
I had planned on getting the Takom kit, but he brought the Meng kit and it was only 30.00, about half the cost of the Takom. It's a nice kit, no interior, no photoetch, should be a quick build.
Mack
Postie arrived this evening - 6pm! - with my WNW box, containing another SE5a, a DFW, Salmson and a Fokker DVII (Alb). Wonder if I got the very last D7?
Only two weeks to traverse the planet completely, (including delay while I paid the customs blackmail.)
S
Wow George! great shelves! I wish I had a brother like yours and .... enough room to put the shelves in !!!!
:-D
Nice collection Toby! I would also recommend that you order one of the GasPatch Models Salmson 2a2 kits, probably the best 1/48 scale WW1 kit ever!I agree, Toby. An absolute must-have for any 1/48 scale builder.
Dave

The £13.50 is only charged for GLS parcels or express parcels - if your was neither, I'd contact Parcelforce and appeal the charge.
Import duty is not charged if it comes to less than £7, so you will be find with that.

Great paints Rick - have you used the alkyd before? I've found plain white spirit gives an overnight dry time and 24 hrs in a warm environ sees it handleable.

Tug
Hi Rick,
After doing the Camel parts with traditional oils I found the speed at which these dry to be a huge improvement and definitely a massive aid to my impatience to get on ( ::)).
I intend to extend my few tubes - just wish I had thought a bit ahead when a local shop had some 'when they're gone they're gone' for a pound a tube.

Here you can see my assistant checking out my latest acquisition for my "library". Apart from that briliant cover, it's more or less standard Osprey, including nice profiles and a very nice surprise for myself: In WNW's instructions on the Fokker D.VII (Alb) the pilot of JG27's "Herta" is given as unknown. It seems GvW has discovered the pilot since than, as he gives the name of Leutnant der Reserve Friedrich Noltenius.
Very interesting detail, as it shows (at least to me) that after 100 years there are still things to be discovered.
It's a pity that this book might be the last of Osprey's forays into WW1, though.
and it sports a (maybe soon to come) Fokker Dreidecker on it's boxart, too!
;D
My cute little truck kit turned up today, got it for a really good price.

This came the other day - another one of those Rodens sold from Poland at just about half price than from the usual emporium :) After the last Nieuport I'm really looking forwards to doing thisSo it was you who bought it. I was pondering about whether I should and you made my mind up for me. :)
And this one came today. A snap decision when spotted 'Buy it Now' for far less than the original Hannants price before the increases :) :). Not one I had actually favoured but given the price and the OOP status far too good to resist.
All I need now is some time in which to sit down and make some inroads :(

Actually the next kit in the production line is 1/32 Roden Siemens Schuckert D.III. I've just ordered some new lozenge from Aviattic as Roden decals are not the best in the world
Thanks Lance. I did check it out but tbh me and PE are very poor bedfellows.I'm spoilt for choice :D

My latest are the MikroMir Fokker E.V/D.VIII and WNW's new Fokker D.VII (Fok) Early. I'll be tarting up the E.V with a Vector engine, Aviattic Dr.I cowling, Master Model Spandaus, HGW D.VII seat belts and the Part Dr.I PE set.If masks could be a solution to your problem, please feel free to PM me. ;)
I'd like to build the D.VII as Ltn. Sachsenberg's yellow and black diamonds scheme from the original D.VII (Fok) kit, if I can source the decals. He flew the similarly-marked E.V shown in the MikroMir kit also, but without decals for that, it's unfortunately a non-starter.

I too, am in the new DVIII club. I'll be waiting for decals from Pheon.

Oops sorry. I got mine through a new online store in the US. http://shadowhobby.com/tlcc-000-thinnerline-circle-cutter.html
Its not a bad price but with the extra blades and shipping and exchange it became expensive.
The ruler on it isnt the best so some experimentation will be needed to make the proper size mask. Still its well made and makes cuts that I have never been able to do before.

Not WW1 but I have always wanted this kit, the 1:32 Tamiya Birdcage F4U corsair, it was on special over the weekend ($100) so I couldn't resist;
I also stocked up on some more 0.3mm tungsten carbide drill bits, I purchased 30 of them and they arrived safe and sound.

Agreed on the Hog!! Another project that calls to me. Tommy Blackburn and Fighting 17. His autobiography Jolly Rogers is a great read that will inspire.

I've just bought a part-built Roden Sopwith Triplane on Ebay for £17
I have just prised it apart, next stop is £500 of after market bits....

Actually, I've had a bit of a think. It seems the fuselage is 6mm too short, only being 'correct' for the two prototypes, like N500.
N500 is rather an attractive aeroplane in CDL

I might even get away without swapping the engine
Richard
I built the Roden kit when it was first released and did it as the prototype, turned out looking pretty good.

Thanks to Pheon Decals and RAGIII... ;D
Bought this 1/32 F.I (cheap!) from a Polish vendor at today's ESM (Dutch IPMS nationals). Not a bad kit I think... and it's tiny! :)
My youngest boy (3) loved it -it's got eyes painted on it and 3 wings!

Great snag Ray, one of their best IMHO. I have one in the case and an un-built one in the Stash, and look forward to getting at it someday!
Cheers,
Lance

Jeroen,
Congrats on getting a good deal on the Triplane. If One of My builds has inspired someone to build a kit then my purpose in posting is fulfilled! Enjoy!

I just recently received the 1:32 scale Tamiya Mosquito, what a beautiful looking kit.

Daryl,
I recall seeing some reference here to the Cross and Cockade Dolphin book, is it a separate book on the aircraft or an issue of the journal with an article? Where might I find it available?
Cheers,
Lance

Well worth its price, covers everything Dolphin.
Daryl, thanks for bringing this to my attention, and thank you Hannover and Frank for your information. The result, my PayPal account just took a "hit" as I ordered the Cross and Cockade Dolphin book!
Cheers,
Lance
I too went to the Cross and Cockade site, and purchased "Nieuports in RNAS, RFC, and RAF service". Neat PDF book hrmmm I might have to get another Special Hobby Nieuport to add to my in progress Nieuport 11.....
PDF publications in my opinion should be more prevalent, its so useful being able to blow up the page to see details.

i just paid a mint for the Cross and Cockade FE2b/d book.
well, i couldn't find it on Amazon, or Abebooks, and it doesn't turn up on ebay often, so i went all in. i have a strange fascination with pushers. i have a WNW early Fee which will be one that Fred Libby made ace as a gunner in.
i'm considering converting a WNW Fee to a "d", and i'd need some reference material for that. like, all of it. so, yeah. i'm broke again. eating is overrated.
You’re keeping the economy running. Money in means money out. Lolthe gov't of NZ in particular owe me at least a birthday card this year.

Great choice Doug, still IMHO the best overall of the Wingnut Wings line and one you don't want to chance missing. I did it back almost 5 years ago in McKeever's and Powell's colors, A-7288, and it's still probably the favorite in my cabinet. Here's a link if you think it might be of use.Lance, allow me to emend my Laphroig induced errata from the other night...F2b, not FB2...of course...just a bit too obsessive to let that hang there but while we're back on the subject of illustrious Bristol tandems, I'll start another thread in 'time to relax' about a pair of characters who served with 48 RFC.....and characters they were.

Hi Terri! Got this one too... great kit... but a little curiosity: It says to paint the tailskids of the Albitri Clear doped linen, doesn't seem right to me... the original release said "dark wood" for all of them... and if you look at profile A you can see the difference... but no real bother... I do mind the square aileron wire covers though, should be rounded, easy enough fix and needs some putty around it, fiddly but most un-WNW- ish...

I order you to build it!! And I order you to live long enough to build this and many more!!
The Tripe is a lovely kit to build. You will love it! :-*

From Hannants:
Camel Clerget (Barker)
From Modelbau König:
Camel BR1 (Collishaw)
Albatros "Black Beautys" (will propably buy Pheons Jasta 5 sheet for this)
Pfalz XII
Hannover Cl.II
Hansa-Brandenburg W.12
And while the wallet was open I accidentally ordered an Ansaldo from Aviattic.
This will last me long into my next life.

Jeff K, I am retiered, but having a couple of tumors i am pretty sure the stash will outlive me big time. :( :osorry to hear about the tumors. keep fighting. i think most of us have stashes that will outlive us. mine's practically a fleet in being. it's like what Umberto Ecco said when asked why he had more books than he could read in ten lifetimes: it's about having choices for how to spend the time you've got.

A buddy recently built one. He had only good to say about the kit. Both fit and detail are top of the line according to him. His only issue was having to add weight to the nose and two booms in order to get it to sit on the tricycle landing gear I found it a bit expensive and settled for their 1/72 IL-2. That kit also looks great as far as I can tell by eyeballing the sprues.

Awesome News. I am really looking forward to receiving mine. Too bad you sat on yours ::)

Mine was shipped UPS SurePost ... .
so I invested for retirement that can't come soon enough...Wise words my friend! I can only sign that.
Thanks guys , spiders will be waiting for a bit until I can find enough ref's for the build .

I've built both the Flashback and the Toko. Throw the Toko in the parts bin and build the Flashback. If you really really wanted to build two of these, still throw the Toko in the bin and go buy another Flashback.

Thanks for the Heads up on the Toko kit. The funny thing is just looking at the parts I liked a few things better on the Toko version. I take it that fit of the struts or similar is the issue?
RAGIII
Nice find Rick , Flashback kits can be hard to track down .
Feels weird seeing you pick up a 72 scale kit ....for the longest time I got used to seeing build in 32 scale .
I do look forward on seeing a build log on this . ;)

I too thought the Toko would be the better kit after examining both. I found the Flashback parts fit and assembly to be vastly superior. As far as the Toko, yes, you are correct. The struts were the most difficult. Some were too long, some too short, and none of them lined up properly to the wings/fuselage. I also had a bunch of fiddling to get parts to line up and/or fit correctly.
There's several Flashback Strutters on eBay right now, two in the sub $30 range, with buy it now and free shipping.
Saw a Flashback Voisin for around $40 plus $10 in shipping. Seems like a good price.

I just received a new book from Luftfahrtverlag Start called Jasta 14. A quick thumb through and WOW is it nice. Maybe the push I need to get building WWI aircraft again.

Maybe only the last one in a Wingnut Wings box - cross our fingers....

... And then there is the kit to trump all kits, the Meng 1/24 Dr.1 Triplane... Quite a production and it impresses me enormously... love the medal and the ready rolled PE for the barrels of the machine guns, that will save me two weeks! The price of this kit in South Africa wasn't bad... well, we have a Brics trade agreement with China...

I can't wait to start this one, I may need some Aviattic decals!
Enjoy your modelling,
Regards, Marc.
I'm so envious, I'd love that DH.5! Great little haul Stuart!
I just wish WNW would of produced the DH.5 before the sun set on their empire.Me too, Bob, me too. Of course doing the Lycoming O-320 engine conversion and new prop will be easier in 1/72...
::) ::) ::)
Hi all - so, not exactly WNWs, but.... I picked this one up recently:
I remember seeing this set as a kid in a hobby store whilst away on holiday with my parents, but not having the pocket money immediately to hand at the time to buy it. I was wowed by the full set of amazing fighter aircraft and drooled at the possibilities and mock dogfights I could have with these ones. Alas, I didn't see it for many years afterwards, but I did see the individual kits themselves (and picked one up here and there). When I saw this recently, I had the pang of nostalgia, and the 'I remember that!' moment (misidentified aircraft and all). This time, I had enough pocket money, so here it is, the set of Esci flghters! Tally ho!
Hi Brad,
It;s interesting to note that the Fokker and the Albi are misprinted!!! Just like a rare stamp?
[ ;)img width=800 height=727]https://i.imgur.com/pQKyjee.jpg[/img]
So, not mind boggling or earth shatteringly rare, but kinda a cool addition to the nostalgia pile.
Cheers,
BC
Very nice Rick! I have this "Schweinhund", which means "pig dog" ;) from Eduard in my stash.
Cheers,
Frank
You have a very generous friend for sure!Believe me, I'm still pinching myself in disbelief. I've been wanting to build NZ3220, the famous Gloria Lyons, from this kit since it was announced and I can't wait to get into it!
I put the KP Dolphin and Roland D.II on the Christmas list. Going from memory, wasn't the main difference between the D.II and D.IIa a different engine? Also, I did not know Pfalz license built the Roland D.II. I'm guessing the differences are slight. Anyone with more knowledge on the subject?Hi Stuart,
Stuart
If I read correctly elsewhere the Roden box illustrator has recently been killed in the ongoing war in Ukraine. Maybe this is old news but sad all the same.

No pressure Andreas, but I'm very excited to see you build this!
